Yoshi P Updates on Data Center Travel and World Redistribution

Recommended Posts

banner.jpg

Unhappy with how he presented the information last, Yoshi P has sent out a hefty update on what Data Center Travel will look like, as well as the redistribution of Japanese worlds.

FFXIV Director Naoki Yoshida began the letter by saying, "in an attempt to avoid divulging development information prematurely, I provided insufficient explanation, which has caused uncertainty and confusion in a number of players, particularly within Japanese data centers. For this, I am truly sorry."

The post goes on to explain that Data Center Travel will be implemented in Patch 6.18, so an update or two after the initial Patch 6.1. We've just got a little longer to wait!

In explaining the World Redistribution for Japanese players, they will be adding another data center and consolidating several worlds on it, while also being able to increase the player cap for each world by about 2,000. With 32 Japanese worlds currently, this means the servers as a whole will be able to support roughly 64,000 more players than it can right now.

In relation to this, the Home Transfer system will temporarily not have a fee to transfer to another world. Players that transferred immediately after the news will be reimbursed. And likewise, players who own homes on these servers will be awarded 3 million gil for transferring to a lower population World, while apartment owners will be awarded 500,000 gil.

That's just a brief recap! For the full post and information, look below.

Greetings, Warriors of Light! This is FFXIV Producer & Director Naoki Yoshida.

During the 69th Letter from the Producer LIVE, we introduced details regarding Data Center Travel and the World redistribution expected in upcoming 6.X patches. However, in an attempt to avoid divulging development information prematurely, I provided insufficient explanation, which has caused uncertainty and confusion in a number of players, particularly within Japanese data centers. For this, I am truly sorry.

During the same broadcast, I also stated that Data Center Travel would be implemented before the World redistribution; however, both will be implemented at the same time. I would like to apologize for this misstatement as well. Please rest assured that World redistribution will not occur before Data Center Travel is implemented.

To provide clarity on these issues, I have outlined the purpose and significance of the new Data Center Travel system, as well as our reasoning behind the World redistribution and the systems in place to support it.

To reduce disruption caused by the World redistribution of Japanese data centers, the Home World Transfer Service will be free to use for a limited time. After reviewing feedback from players, we have decided to ensure that this time period occurs before land in the new residential district becomes available for purchase in Patch 6.1. We will also reimburse those players who ended up transferring Worlds immediately after the 69th Letter from the Producer LIVE aired. Further details regarding this can be found in the Free Home World Transfers and Bonuses section below.

Patch 6.1, Newfound Adventure, has entered its final stage of development, and our team is hard at work debugging and fine-tuning its story and other content to create an experience worthy of this new beginning.

As always, thank you for your support, and we hope you enjoy the journeys that yet await you in FFXIV!

Naoki Yoshida

Data Center Travel and Japanese DC World Redistribution

Data Center Travel will be added in Patch 6.18, allowing players to travel beyond the boundaries of their logical data center and interact with significantly more players.

Furthermore, the Meteor data center will be added around July 2022 as the fourth Japanese data center following Elemental, Gaia, and Mana. In conjunction with this, a number of existing Worlds will be redistributed under the Meteor data center. This addition and redistribution will considerably increase the number of simultaneous logins, which will help with congestion-related issues, such as those experienced during the release of new expansions. We understand this will be a significant inconvenience to those in affected communities, but would appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

In this article, we would like to explain what will be possible through Data Center Travel, as well as what will be affected by the World redistribution.

Table of Contents

What is Data Center Travel?

Data Center Travel is a feature that will be implemented in Patch 6.18, allowing players to visit another logical data center (logical DC) to socialize and participate in matchmaking.

Currently, player characters belong to a logical DC (Aether, Primal, Crystal, etc.) and are limited to playing with others within that same logical DC. With the upcoming Data Center Travel feature, for example, players from Aether will also be able to play with others in Primal and Crystal.

The Data Center Travel process typically takes somewhere between less than a minute to three minutes to complete. We hope you’ll make use of this feature and socialize with your newfound neighbors!

Activities Available When Visiting Other Logical DCs

Similar to the World Visit System, you can take part in a wide variety of activities, such as:

  • Chatting through Say/Party/Yell/Shout/Tell
  • Joining and chatting in cross-world linkshells (CWLS) created in the destination logical DC
  • Adding players to the Friend List
  • Forming and recruiting parties
  • Progressing through quests
  • Social interaction in various in-game locations, such as cities, areas and residential districts
  • Participate in various in-game content, such as dungeons, raids, and PvP
  • Crafting and gathering (excluding Unspoiled and Legendary gathering nodes)
  • Purchasing items from the market board
* In addition to World Visit System restrictions, free company chat / CWLS in other logical DCs / PvP teams / Fellowships features (aside from searching) will be restricted.

With the addition of Data Center Travel, you will be able to use your main character to play outside of your Home World’s logical DC without having to create new characters specifically for visiting another logical DC. The scope of your communication and gameplay will expand dramatically as you can participate in raids with others, play with previously unreachable friends and acquaintances, tour player housing, participate in player events, and more!

How Do Data Centers Function?

For a better understanding of what can be done with the Data Center Travel feature, we would like to explain how data centers function in FFXIV.

Diagram of the Data Centers

* The current distribution of Worlds can be verified on the Server Status page.

Physical Data Centers (Physical DC)

The physical DCs (represented in blue on the diagram) are located in four regions: Japan, North America, Europe, and Oceania. The closer your place of residence is to the physical DC, the less likely you are to experience network lag; as such, players typically choose the physical DC located closest to their residence.

Logical Data Centers (Logical DC)

Each physical DC contains one to three logical DCs (represented in green on the diagram).

The following are some of the main features that can be accessed while you are on the logical DC you belong to:

  • Matchmaking
  • Party recruitment
  • Cross-world Linkshells (CWLS)
  • PvP teams
  • Fellowships

Worlds

Each logical DC contains five to eleven Worlds (represented in gray on the diagram).

The following are some of the main features that can be accessed while you are on your Home World.

  • Free Company
  • Linkshells
  • Retainers
  • Housing

How Data Center Travel Works

To reiterate, Data Center Travel allows players to move their characters to another logical DC, enabling them to use features that are linked to the destination logical DC.

Until now, logical DCs have been a sort of barrier to players, but this will be overcome with Data Center Travel. Though there will be some restrictions, you can generally think of this feature as something that
enables you to play with all players in the same physical DC.

Japanese Data Center Expansion and World Redistribution

Next, we’d like to explain about the expansion of the Japanese data center and the reasons for the World redistribution.

Current State and Issues of Japanese Data Center

dfd4941126bf2fc4a6808e466225cb0c1c99b3c4

Due to how logical data centers are structured, there is a maximum number of simultaneous character logins on any given logical DC. The more Worlds there are in a logical DC, the lower the maximum number of logins per World.

Over the course of many years of operations, we’ve been able to accommodate a larger number of logins by improving the performance of the server equipment that makes up each World. However, due to the aforementioned limits of logical DCs,
the number of logins cannot be increased any further on Worlds in the Japanese data center, unlike those belonging to the North American and European data centers. This makes these Worlds more susceptible to long login queues during times of congestion, such as immediately after the release of an expansion, and the lack of an efficient resolution to this problem has been apparent.

To this end, we will add a new logical DC, Meteor, and reduce the number of Worlds per logical DC to 8. This will enable us to significantly increase the number of maximum simultaneous logins per World by around 2,000.

Taking into account the floor space of the physical data centers housing the server equipment, as well as shortage of semiconductors, this is the fastest and most efficient method of large-scale expansion. This method involves redistributing a number of existing Worlds to Meteor, and we apologize for the inconvenience this will cause for the community, but ask for your understanding and cooperation as we strive to stabilize operations for the overall Japanese data center.

Addition of Meteor DC and Effects of World Redistribution

dfd4941126bf2fc4a6808e466225cb0c1c99b3c4

Though the World redistribution will change the affiliated logical DC of the Worlds moving to Meteor, there will be no change to the 'data' associated with the character, such as their affiliated World, character name, gil/items/housing/Friend List and so on. Free companies and linkshells for communicating within a World will also still be available.

Also keep in mind that although the World redistribution may separate you from players on other logical DCs, you will still be able to socialize and participate in duties with them by using Data Center Travel.

* Members of PvP teams and fellowships who move to another logical DC will be automatically removed. As for cross-world linkshells, the member list at the time of the World redistribution will be retained, and members will be able to chat in the CWLS when they are in the same logical DC using Data Center Travel.

Once more, we would like to sincerely apologize for the disruption and inconvenience caused by the World redistribution. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work towards alleviating major congestion and transforming physical DCs into one large community.

Free Home World Transfers and Bonuses

As mentioned above, character data will not be affected after the redistribution and players will be able to play with those on other logical DCs via Data Center Travel. But for those who would like to transfer their Home World for any reason, for a limited period, the Home World Transfer Service will be provided free of charge to characters on the Japanese data center.

In response to player feedback, we will provide a period of free Home World transfers prior to the release of Patch 6.1, in addition to the free Home World transfers period following the World redistribution.
Reimbursements will be provided to those who paid for a Home World transfer between Friday, March 4 at 3:00 a.m. (PST) to Thursday, March 31 at 0:59 a.m. (PDT). See below for further details.

Free Home World Transfer Period

  • From Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 1:00 a.m. (PDT) until the beginning of Patch 6.1 maintenance * NEW
  • A limited period following the World redistribution taking place in July 2022

Overview

During this period, all characters on the Japanese data center will be able to transfer their Home World at no cost, in addition to the following accommodations upon Home World transfer:

  • Players who own an estate will have the full cost of the land returned to them, and receive an additional 3,000,000 gil to compensate for lost furnishings.
  • Players who own an apartment will have the full purchase price of 500,000 gil returned to them, and receive an additional 500,000 gil to compensate for lost furnishings.

* For private estates, DO NOT relinquish the land but remove all furnishings and your estate hall and then apply for a Home World Transfer.
For apartments, DO NOT vacate the apartment but remove all your furnishings and then apply for a Home World Transfer.
Please note that if you have relinquished the deed to your plot or the rights to your property, you will not be eligible to receive gil compensation.
* Please note that if the total amount of gil in your possession exceeds 999,999,999 gil, the excess amount will be discarded.

* Transfers to Congested Worlds will remain unavailable.
* Transferring to a Preferred World will confer the usual transfer bonuses in addition to those listed above. (In the event that a bonus is the same, you will not receive it twice)
* Players transferring to Standard Worlds will not be able to transfer again until three days have passed. Characters that have transferred to a Preferred World during the bonus period will be restricted from using the Home World Transfer Service again for 90 days.

Reimbursement for Home World Transfers on the Japanese Data Center Prior to this Announcement

We will reimburse those on the Japanese data center who purchased a Home World Transfer between Friday, March 4 at 3:00 a.m. (PST) through Thursday, March 31 at 0:59 a.m. (PDT), regardless of their reason for transferring. These Home World Transfer fees will be reimbursed in the form of Square Enix Crysta. As we will be providing the reimbursement to affected players in order, no particular actions will be required of those affected to receive their reimbursement.

Additionally, depending on the situation, players on the Japanese data center who relinquished housing plots or apartments in preparation for their Home World Transfer may be eligible for gil compensation, similar to the bonuses outlined above (*). We apologize for the inconvenience but ask that you contact the Support Center with the following details any time
between Thursday, March 31 at 1:00 a.m. (PDT) and the start of Patch 6.1 maintenance.

  • Home World name
  • Character name
  • Type of housing (private estate/apartment)
  • Date and time of relinquishing
  • Information about the relinquished plot

For private estates: Residential District / Ward / Plot Number / Size
For apartments: Residential District / Ward / Building Number / Apartment Number

* As we cannot reference the price of the relinquished plot at the time of purchase, the amount of compensation will be based on the current starting sale price.
* Please note that compensation will require time to process.

Q&A

Q: I would like to know more about “copying” cross-world linkshells (CWLSs), mentioned during the Letter from the Producer LIVE Part LXIX.

A: Should some members of a CWLS and PvP team move to Meteor data center during the World redistribution, a CWLS/PvP team with the same name and details will be created in Meteor data center.
* In the case of duplicate CWLS or PvP team names within Meteor data center, a number such as #001 may be assigned after the name in order to differentiate them.

Regarding CWLS, we used the term "copying" to refer to how the member list will keep its state before the redistribution. This “copying” is on an internal level; in the CWLS menu, it will be displayed as a single CWLS which changes to display the copy of the CWLS stored on the player’s current logical DC. For instance, when a CWLS originally created in Gaia is copied to Meteor, the CWLS in Meteor will be displayed while playing on Meteor, and the CWLS in Gaia will be displayed while playing on Gaia. Note that in this example, the CWLS would not be visible when playing on Elemental or Mana.
* Players will be able to belong to up to 8 CWLS in each logical DC.

Furthermore, each copy of the CWLS will be treated as separate CWLS moving forward, and changes to membership in one CWLS on one logical DC will not be reflected in the copy of the CWLS in the other logical DC. This may result in different members being displayed depending on which logical DC you are currently playing on. Since Data Center Travel allows for players to join CWLS on the destination logical DC, having members join both copies of the CWLS on both logical DCs would resolve the issue of inconsistencies between member lists.

Q: In the Letter from the Producer LIVE Part LXIX, there was a screenshot of Data Center Travel with the description “Data Center Travel may take up to 30 minutes.” Will it always require a 30-minute wait?

A: The 30-minute estimate is based on when the servers are especially congested; the process will typically only take somewhere between less than a minute to three minutes to complete. Note that this will take slightly longer than the World Visit System, as it requires processes to ensure the safety of the character as they are transferred beyond the boundaries of logical DCs, which had previously been impossible.

Furthermore, the Data Center Travel process may require more than 30 minutes when there is a significant degree of congestion, such as the cases listed below.

  • A surge of players using Data Center Travel immediately after its implementation
  • A surge of players after a patch update or expansion has been released
  • Congestion due to player events taking place on the destination data center

Q: The World redistribution will make it inconvenient for us to communicate and form parties with players who have left for another logical DC. Will we ever be able to chat and form parties across logical DCs?

A: Unfortunately, chatting and forming parties across logical DCs would be extremely difficult to achieve with the current server system and implementing such features would require a significant amount of time.

Though it isn’t an in-game feature, the FFXIV Companion App for iOS and Android devices allows players to communicate and share schedules between free company/linkshell/CWLS members regardless of their character’s location on the logical DC. You can also use the Lodestone’s Event & Party Recruitment to gather participants on a larger scale, including other logical DCs.

Data Center Travel will allow you to join parties on other logical DCs to participate in duties and player events, as well as join CWLSs on other logical DCs. This may be a great opportunity to start using the FFXIV Companion App and the Lodestone’s Event & Party Recruitment.

Q: How will CWLSs/Friend List, etc. display players whose logical DC was changed through the redistribution?

A: See below for an outline of members that will be displayed in each menu.

CWLS

The CWLS itself will be copied over to Meteor data center, whereby a CWLS of the same name is created. Members on other logical DCs remain on the list and will appear as offline. Visiting the same logical DC with Data Center Travel enables you to chat with and check the online status of other members.
*In the case that a CWLS name is duplicated within the same data center, a number such as #001 may be assigned to the CWLS name in order to differentiate them.
* Players who are not affected by the redistribution and voluntarily move logical DCs will be automatically removed from the CWLS, but can return to the list and chat if they subsequently visit the logical DC using Data Center Travel.

PvP Team

The PvP team itself will be carried over to Meteor data center, whereby a PvP team of the same name is created; however, members listed from the other logical DC will be automatically removed.
* In the case that a PvP team name is duplicated within the Meteor data center, a number such as #001 may be assigned to the PvP team name in order to differentiate them.

Fellowships

Fellowships will follow whichever logical DC the master resides in. If the master of a fellowship moves to a different logical DC, the fellowship will be moved to the logical DC as well. Members residing on a different logical DC from the master will be automatically removed.

Friend List

Friends residing on other logical DCs will remain in the Friend List. From Patch 6.1, it will be possible to retrieve their online status and current World by pressing the designated button.

Blacklist

Players blacklisted from the other logical DC will remain on the list and no change will be made to the display.

Project Goos started as a funny inside joke within a small Final Fantasy XIV Free Company called the "Honk Tavern" back in early 2020. Inspired by a single playthrough of Untitled Goose Game, a lighthearted community quickly formed around the idea of dressing up geese as FFXIV jobs. This led to a growing Discord community, a mascot called Goos-hime, and even custom stickers.
The Free Company welcomed players who owned the iconic Ugly Duckling minion and embraced a friendly "adopt a sprout" approach to help newcomers through the game. When the pandemic hit, their growing, wholesome community became a social safe place for many new players.
Months ago, what started as a meme transformed into something real when artist Niyo began designing the beloved goose characters as enamel pins. After months of iteration, Project Goos is now ready to bring these pins to life, and you can be part of it!

Be among the first to try the Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy set! Here's how to find prerelease events, what to expect, and how to get started.
Two gaming giants are about to clash when the Final Fantasy Magic: The Gathering set releases in June. It's part of Magic's "Universes Beyond" line-up, where Wizards of the Coast brings outside IPs to Magic in card form. But what if you're a Final Fantasy fan who's never really played Magic, and you're not sure how to get started with the game? Well, a prerelease event is the perfect place to start!
      Why Magic? Why Now?
If you've heard of Magic: The Gathering (MTG) but you're not super familiar with it, just know that it's the best card game ever created. It's infinitely customizable, it has appeal for casual and competitive gamers alike, it supports 1v1 play as well as multiplayer, and it has more than 30 years of history. Simply put, it's the golden standard for trading card games, and it's more popular now than it's ever been.
Magic's always been full of fantastic card designs and worldbuilding, and thanks to Universes Beyond, it's now reaching into new territory by branching into other familiar worlds. Final Fantasy fans will see all the heroes, villains, and settings they love and love to hate in Magic form, so it's a great time to jump into MTG while they're crossing over with one of your favorite franchises.
Magic has already explored other crossovers with properties like Warhammer 40,000, Doctor Who, Fallout, and The Lord of the Rings. Final Fantasy is their next big stepping stone, with future sets planned around Spider-Man and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
      What Is a Magic Prerelease?
A Magic prerelease is a player event that takes place with the release of every new MTG set. It's basically a "sneak peek" of a new set, where people can experience playing with the new cards before anyone else. They're usually low-stakes, casual events where people can open and play with the newest cards and compete for extra prizes.
Prereleases use what's called a "Sealed" format, which means players are given fresh, randomized booster packs of the newest set, and they build the decks they play at the event from the cards they open out of those boosters. You don't have to bring your own deck, and everyone's on the same playing field; you can't just buy all the best cards and try to win that way; you have to play with what you open!
And the best part: Everything you open is yours to keep.
How To Find a Prerelease Near You
If you're not already familiar with any of the local game stores near you, it's not too hard to look them up! Wizards of the Coast has an online Store & Event Locator. All you have to do is type in your city or zip code and you'll see a map of your area, including all the game stores that offer Magic events near you.
There's also a filter near the search bar where you can narrow your search down to just upcoming prerelease events. Pro Tip: Once you find an event you're interested in, call that store and see if you can preregister. The Final Fantasy prerelease in particular should be very popular, and you don't want to wait until the last minute to find out it's sold out!
      How Does Sealed Magic Work?
In a Sealed event, participants will receive six unopened booster packs of the newest set. Packs contain 14 cards each, so players open 84 cards from which to build their deck. Magic decks require some number of basic lands to work, but don't worry: Your tournament organizer or local game store will provide basic lands for you.
You need to build a minimum 40-card deck from among everything you open, which includes your lands. Generally, you want about 17 lands and 23 other cards, so you'll have to narrow the entire pool of 84 cards down to your best cards and play with those. Sticking to just one or two colors can help with the consistency of your deck quite a bit.
Players are usually given about an hour to build their decks, and then they're paired up to play against a random opponent. Rounds usually take about an hour as well, and most stores run events that last for 3-4 rounds. You're probably looking at a 5-hour event from start to finish, and you'll play against at least three other opponents. Prizes are determined by the store owners, and many stores distribute prizes so that everyone walks away with something extra (a few booster packs, usually).

Prereleases offer a little something extra too, compared to normal Sealed events. At a prerelease, you're given a boxed prerelease kit. This contains the six packs you'd normally open, but also a d20 spindown die and a foil, stamped promo card, which is something extra you can play for that event. The box is also a convenient way to carry around your cards.
      Practice With Draftsim's Sealed Simulator

If you're intimidated by the idea of opening up a bunch of packs with new cards you've never seen before, worry not! Draftsim's Sealed Simulator can get you in on the action before the actual event. Just visit draftsim.com, click the Draft Simulator Tab, then All Sets and the set you want to practice, and you're there!
Once the full set list has been revealed, you'll also be able to see Final Fantasy front and center on the site's homepage.

The simulator opens practice Sealed pools for you, and you can toggle cards back and forth to make example decks from the wider card pool. The simulator also lays out cards by color, which is something you might want to try emulating at your in-person event to organize all the cards you open.

You can even sort by color, mana cost, or rarity (rare cards are a big deal in Sealed), and there's even an auto-build feature that can create a rough sketch of what a strong deck from your Sealed pool might look like.
      Next Steps After Prerelease
So you've signed up for your prerelease, or maybe you just got back from your first event. What's next? If you caught the Magic bug, there are plenty of ways to jump into the hobby.
First thing's first, Magic Arena is your best friend. It's the go-to digital platform for Magic, and it's very easy to jump in and learn the basics. There are game modes specifically designed for beginners, and the program dumps a bunch of cards in your lap right away to get started.
Alternatively, you might want to check with your local game store and ask about their Friday Night Magic events. FNM is a time-honored tradition among Magic players, where players of all skill levels can get together on a Friday night and just jam some great games of Magic.
And if you're looking to get into the game with friends, you can check out the Commander format, which is Magic's take on multiplayer. There are countless preconstructed Commander decks you can buy that are somewhat competitive right off the shelves, and it's a great way to play the game with a group of friends. Be warned that Commander's a bit more complex than the normal 1v1 game, so you might want to start with the basics first.
Meet Your New Best Friend: Arena Tutor

Did we say Arena's your best friend? We meant Arena Tutor's your true best friend. Arena Tutor is a free tool created by Draftsim that you can pair with Magic Arena to help you with deckbuilding, drafting, and gameplay. It'll give you AI-driven insight into certain parts of deckbuilding and provide you with helpful statistics while you play. It's exactly the companion piece you need to bump you up from that beginner level to the next stage of Magic stardom.
So what are you waiting for? Magic is an absolutely incredible game, and this is the perfect time to give it a try!

Occult Crescent's Forked Tower 48 man raid got cleared for the first time by Aether Group 2! Here's how they did it!
As always with big Final Fantasy XIV raids, there's a world first race happening!
The recently added Occult Crescent zone introduced a brand-new 48-man raid called Forked Tower, and just a few hours ago, the first team finally cleared it!
Aether Group 2 achieved the world first clear, becoming the first group to conquer the tower. The clear itself took hours of practice and patience, with every player doing their part to make it through each phase. If you're curious about how they did it and want a closer look at the strategies involved, you can watch the full clear. The following video is from a Tank's point of view and shows important mechanics, positioning, and the final moments of the fight.
Forked Tower stands out as one of the most complex and demanding raids in FFXIV Dawtrail. It puts all 48 players to the test with a lot of coordination checks, unforgiving mechanics, and a need for team-wide execution. Many groups had been attempting it since release, but Aether Group 2 managed to pull through, showing how teamwork and dedication can get you far.
If you're thinking about attempting the raid yourself, don't go in unprepared! We have a full Occult Crescent guide on the site to help you get ready and understand what to expect.
Congratulations to Aether Group 2 on the clear!

Read on and learn what awaits you upon this curious isle in the heart of Shades' Triangle.
Level Requirement   Disciple of War or Magic level 100 Item Level Requirement   Average item level 690 or above Party Size   Eight players Time Limit   180 minutes Requirements
      Unfamiliar Territory

Players can enter the Occult Crescent by speaking with Jeffroy in the phantom village (X:4.5 Y:6.6). If entering as a party, the leader must speak with Jeffroy.
      Traversing the Occult Crescent
Players are free to ride mounts at any time after entering the Occult Crescent, but they cannot fly.
      Occult Return
While on the Occult Crescent, the action Return will be replaced by Occult Return.

Using this action will return players to return to the base camp.
      Changing Classes and Jobs
You may change between Disciple of War and Magic classes and jobs that are at level 100. Note, however, that you cannot change classes or jobs during combat or under certain other conditions.
      Character Progress
Progress on the Occult Crescent is measured by a separate leveling system.
      Knowledge
Players accrue knowledge─akin to experience points─by completing quests and defeating enemies that inhabit the isle.
      Knowledge Level
This is the leveling system specific to the Occult Crescent. Your knowledge level can be increased by accumulating sufficient knowledge.

Engaging foes with a knowledge level higher than your own will reduce damage dealt and increase damage received, but will garner more knowledge upon victory.

Current knowledge level is displayed via the Occult Crescent HUD and the experience bar.
      Incapacitation Penalty
If your knowledge level is above 5, falling in battle on the Occult Crescent can incur a penalty. If you are incapacitated and return to base camp without being revived, or if you leave the instance while incapacitated, you will lose a portion of your knowledge. Should your knowledge fall below zero, your knowledge level will also decrease. The amount of knowledge lost depends on your current knowledge level.
      EXP Chains
Under certain conditions, consecutively defeating enemies within a set time period will yield a bonus to knowledge, phantom experience, and rewards accrued.

The bonus yielded increases incrementally up until chain 30, beyond which the bonus is capped.
EXP chains occur upon defeating an enemy whose knowledge level exceeds your own, but the exact threshold will change depending on party size.

During solo play, the threshold is based on your own knowledge level. While in a balanced party, the threshold is based on the party's average knowledge level. The exact thresholds are as follows:
      Solo: 2 levels higher 2 players: 3 levels higher 3 or 4 players: 4 or 5 levels higher 5 or 6 players: 6 or 7 levels higher 7 or 8 players: 7 or 8 levels higher
      * Chain bonuses will not occur when defeating enemies whose knowledge level falls outside the applicable threshold. Enemies that can generate an EXP chain upon defeat are indicated with a special icon.
      Phantom Jobs
Phantom jobs are supplemental jobs that can be acquired in addition to your main job.

Selecting a phantom job will grant access to specific phantom actions.
      Acquiring Phantom Jobs
As you progress through quests on the Occult Crescent: South Horn, you will gain access to different phantom jobs. Further phantom jobs can be acquired using items called "soul shards." These crystalline objects can be purchased from a vendor on the isle, or found in critical encounters.
      * Updated Tuesday, 27 May 2025 at 9:15 (GMT) / 10:15 (BST) / 19:15 (AEST) to address textual errors.

Outside of combat and certain specific conditions, phantom jobs can be changed at any time by selecting Phantom Job Details on the Occult Crescent HUD, selecting Change Phantom Job, and then choosing your desired phantom job from the Phantom Job Repertoire window.
      Phantom Job Progression
Phantom job progression is governed by your phantom job level, which is increased by accruing phantom EXP. Defeating enemies and completing encounters upon the isle will garner phantom EXP for your current phantom job.

Acquiring sufficient phantom EXP will increase your phantom job level, unlocking new phantom actions and phantom traits in the process.

Upon reaching a phantom job's maximum level, you will receive the Phantom Mastery status, which grants increased damage dealt and other helpful effects, and remains active even should you change to another phantom job.

The more jobs you master, the more powerful your Phantom Mastery effects become.

The exception to this is the first phantom job available to you, Phantom Freelancer. Freelancers do not gain experience through traditional means. Instead, it levels up with every additional phantom job you master.
      Phantom Actions
Phantom actions are special actions available while on the Occult Crescent.

Different phantom jobs have access to a variety of offensive, restorative, and supplemental phantom actions.
Phantom actions can be executed and toggled using the following methods:
      Phantom Action Panel
Upon acquisition, phantom actions are registered to the phantom action panel, from which they can be selected for execution.
When using a gamepad, press RT + Right Thumb-click (R2 + R3) to execute the currently selected phantom action. If multiple phantom actions are available to use, pressing LT + Right Thumb-click (L2 + R3) will rotate the phantom action panel, allowing you to toggle between different phantom actions.

The phantom action panel can also be controlled using duty action found under the Duties tab in the Actions & Traits window.
Action   Effect Duty Action I   Execute Phantom Action Duty Action II   Select Phantom Action Assign to Default Phantom Action Slot
Assigns the selected phantom action to the default slot on the phantom action panel. Hide from Phantom Action Panel / Display in Phantom Action Panel
Hides or displays the selected phantom action in the phantom action panel. Actions assigned to the default phantom action slot cannot be hidden. Set to Hotbar (Gamepad Only) The following settings are accessible via the Phantom Job window:
Phantom Action Rotation (Clockwise / Counterclockwise) Reset After Execution
When enabled, resets the phantom action panel after executing actions. Gamepad Input
Select which combination of inputs are used to select and execute phantom actions. Executing Phantom Actions via the Hotbar
Phantom actions can executed via the hotbar just like other actions. To do so, simply register the phantom action icons found under the Duties tab in Actions & Traits to your hotbar.
Phantom Actions I-V are automatically switched to their respective phantom actions while on the Occult Crescent.

They can be dragged and dropped to the hotbar, or registered via the subcommand menu.
      Encounters on the Occult Crescent
While exploring the isle, players can participate in FATEs and critical encounters. Neither FATEs nor critical encounters are affected by your knowledge level.
      FATEs
FATEs are combat encounters that occur around the isle. Players may join FATEs by going to the indicated location on the map, even after an encounter has started.
      Critical Encounters
Critical encounters are large-scale battles wherein up to 72 players band together to take on powerful opponents. Certain critical encounters can only be triggered by defeating monsters on the isle.
To participate, players must go to the location indicated on their map before the battle begins and remain in the designated area.
      The Forked Tower: Blood
The Forked Towers are the greatest challenge to be found on the Occult Crescent. Accessible upon reaching knowledge level 20 or greater, you may work together with up to 48 total players to overcome powerful foes and tricky battle mechanics.

The Forked Towers may be unlocked by completing a certain quest available on the Occult Crescent.
      Entering the Forked Towers
Players must offer sanguine ciphers at a cipher reliquary to activate an aetherial node, which will teleport them inside the tower's halls. Ciphers can be purchased from a member of the expedition via a currency exclusive to the Occult Crescent. The quantity of ciphers in your possession is displayed on the Occult Crescent HUD.

Cipher reliquaries will only appear during special weather conditions. When 16 or more players offer sanguine ciphers to a reliquary, the aetherial node will activate.
A short time after the node is activated, a maximum of 48 players who offered sanguine ciphers will receive the Right of Entry: The Forked Tower status effect, granting them clearance to enter the Forked Tower. If more than 48 players offered ciphers, those who invested a greater number will have a higher chance of being selected for entry.

Note that expended sanguine ciphers will be returned to those who are not selected.
      Resurrection Restrictions
While inside the Forked Tower: Blood, players will be subjected to a status effect that limits resurrection. Stacks of this effect are lost each time players are revived using certain phantom actions. After reaching 0 stacks, players can no longer be resurrected.
      Abandoning Duty
Players who are incapacitated and elect to return to the starting point, or use Occult Return, will be transported back to the base camp and will not be permitted to reenter the tower.
      Occult Crescent Currencies
On the Occult Crescent, there are two forms of currency: Enlightenment silver pieces, primarily acquired from critical encounters and FATEs, and Enlightenment gold pieces, primarily acquired from defeating enemies in the wild.

Both can be traded to the expedition antiquarian on the South Horn (X:38.1 Y:7.0) for a variety of items.
You can confirm the amount of these currencies in your possession at any time by viewing the Occult Crescent interface.
      Parties
Unlike normal instanced duties, you may form, disband, or leave a party at any time on the Occult Crescent. You may also change your online status to Looking for Party.
      * Note that if you enter the Occult Crescent with a party and decide to leave the party while exploring, you will be returned to the previously formed party upon exiting the instance.
      Balanced Parties
A party formed on the Occult Crescent will be considered balanced when all members of the party are within 3 knowledge levels of each other.

In balanced parties, your knowledge level is adjusted to the average level of all party members, and enemies defeated award increased phantom experience.
      Knowledge Level Sync
A warning icon will display at the top of the Occult Crescent interface when your party is not balanced.
The party leader may press the level sync icon at the top of the Occult Crescent interface to toggle knowledge level sync on or off.
Enabling this setting will adjust the knowledge level of all members three or more levels higher than the member whose knowledge level is lowest, creating a balanced party. Warriors of Light are encouraged to make use of this feature as needed when playing in a group.
      Knowledge Crystals
These mysterious crystals erected around the Occult Crescent hold a special power.
Knowledge crystals resonate with certain phantom actions, granting players and their party members corresponding effects, such as reduced vulnerability against certain types of attacks, increased movement speed, and more.
      Treasure Coffers
The Occult Crescent is teeming with treasure for the taking.
These chests are only visible to you, so be sure to reap the spoils when you encounter one while exploring.

Defeating monsters on the Occult Crescent and completing certain events may cause chests to appear somewhere on the isle.
      Persistent Pots, Plentiful Treasure
Some FATEs on the Occult Crescent will task you with defending magic pots from hostile creatures. Those who contribute to the successful completion of these FATEs will discover a persistent pot NPC following them afterwards.
      * Should a large number of players participate in one of these FATEs, players will instead be selected at random to have a persistent pot follow them.
Players being followed by a persistent pot will be granted the status "Cache Me if You Can." In exchange for sips of elixir, these soulkin will offer hints as to the location of hidden treasure.
Follow the hints and use your elixir at the correct location to reveal a concealed coffer. On rare occasions, the "Cache Me if You Can" status may persist even after finding treasure, allowing you to pursue further spoils.

The hunt for treasure will end when the status expires, you join a critical engagement while being followed by a persistent pot, you are incapacitated, or the persistent pot is incapacitated.
      * Note that leaving the Occult Crescent or logging out of the game will also prematurely conclude your treasure pursuits.
      Fortune Carrots
Treasure chests on the Occult Crescent sometimes hold a fortune carrot.

With one in your possession, you may start to notice signs of certain creatures nearby.
Using a fortune carrot near such signs will draw these creatures out into the open, eager to repay you with treasure. Be mindful that when someone receives a reward, however, you will have to search elsewhere for new signs of the creatures.
      Occult Record
Complete quests on the Occult Crescent: South Horn to unlock the Occult Record, accessible under Collection in the Duty section of the main menu.

Information concerning the Occult Crescent discovered during your expedition is compiled in the Occult Record.

Entries will be added to the record as you progress through the story, discover notes in the course of your expedition, and after you access certain areas of the isle.
The phantom weapons quest line has been added.
As players explore the Occult Crescent and advance through the phantom weapon quests, they will be able to obtain job-specific weapons which can be enhanced as they progress.
      Requirements
      Arcane Artistry

The Echo will take effect upon entering AAC Light-heavyweight Tier (Savage) raids, increasing players' maximum HP, damage dealt, and healing potency by 15%.
