Curious about Final Fantasy XI after Echoes of Vana'diel in FFXIV? Square Enix is offering a limited-time discount to try FFXI, if you meet a few conditions. Here's what you need to know!
Square Enix just announced a special campaign for Final Fantasy XIV players who want to explore the world of Final Fantasy XI. As part of the Echoes of Vana'diel Discount Campaign, new or returning FFXI players with an active FFXIV subscription can get 50% off their first paid FFXI month, after the free trial ends.
The Campaign runs from July 1 to July 18, 2025 (PDT).
To get the discount, you will need to meet both of these requirements:
You must have an active Final Fantasy XIV subscription You are either: Creating a new FFXI account, or Reactivating an old/cancelled FFXI account on the same Square Enix login Already subscribed to FFXI? You won't get the discount unless you make a new service account, which comes with its own complications.
Here is what you get, and don't:
Discounted Not Discounted First paid month of FFXI subscription ($11.95 to around $6) Character fee ($1 per character/month) Applies after 30-day free trial Does not apply to the game's purchase cost Only if linked to active FFXIV account No discount for FFXIV subs You also have to buy the game and register it properly for the discount to activate.
The timing is not random. This follows the recent Echoes of Vana'diel alliance raid in Final Fantasy XIV, which generated new interest in the classic MMO. If you've been curious about FFXI's roots, or just want to revisit Vana'diel with a new pair of eyes, this might be the best time to do it.
Depending on if you are a new or returning player, you will have slightly different steps. Square Enix provided a help page with setup instructions for both scenarios.
If you are returning with an old PlayOnline ID you will need to transfer your account to your SE login.
And if you are new, Just buy the game, link it to your FFXIV account, and start your 30-day trial.
The discount only applies during the July 1-18 campaign window, and it expires 30 days after your first paid month begins. So if you're planning to activate or re-subscribe, don't delay.

Congratulations to FFXIV Mobile's successful launch! As thanks, everyone gets a permanent Pathfinding Scroll, regardless of when you start playing!
FFXIV Mobile just launched their Open Beta in China last week, and it's been an adventure to watch! Final Fantasy XIV's A Realm Reborn has never been the expansion that everyone openly praises, but FFXIV Mobile's changes have definitely improved gameplay in more ways than one. As a result of its successful launch week, every Warrior of Light also gets free rewards, like A LOT!
As reported from the English community over on Reddit, FFXIV Mobile has gifted every player a Pathfinding Scroll, both current and new players alike! Now, I don't have to manually walk from quest to quest, I can just auto-path there instead!
The unofficial translation of the in-game mail, which can be found on the subreddit, is as follows:
"Thank you for your support and love. In order to facilitate [the] adventurer's travel in Eorzea, we will give you the Pathfinding Scroll item. Remember to use it in your inventory to unlock the automatic pathfinding function.
Adventurers who have already purchased it will also receive additional compensation. Please remember to check the in-game announcement for details."
What a heart-warming gesture! But wait, there's more! The translated version of the official in-game announcement reads:
"Thank you for your support and love for Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World since its launch. We have noticed the positive feedback from adventurers on the game's automatic pathfinding function, and we also realize the importance of this function to all adventurers playing in Eorzea. Therefore, after careful evaluation, we have decided to open the automatic pathfinding function to all adventurers. At the same time, we would like to express our deep gratitude to adventurers who have purchased the automatic pathfinding service and will give them additional compensation. The specific collection and compensation measures are as follows..."
To summarize the reward and compensation details:
Until July 30th, 2025 (UTC+8), all adventurers who log in can obtain a Pathfinding Scroll via Mail. When using the Pathfinding Scroll in their Inventory, adventurers can auto-path to their quest destination. Look, hands-free! After the update on June 26th, new adventurers who complete the first main scenario quest "Welcome to the Desert City" (translated) will receive the Pathfinding Scroll as a quest reward. Pathfinding Scrolls will no longer cost Crystal Points (premium currency), but rather 100 gold coins instead. If you previously paid for a Pathfinding Scroll, you will receive a refund of 600 Crystal Points. The compensation will be via Mail within one week from the June 26th update. Remember to try the game soon, the Celebration Event (featuring adorable penguins) ends July 10th!
There's also a 7-Day Login Event with plenty of rewards that ends July 2nd, and there's only... 8 days left?! Oh no, I better get to playing myself!
Many thanks to the redditors RablaAndrews and Wizzed for the information! Did you know there is a growing English community over on Discord as well? If you're interested in playing, check out FFXIV Mobile today!

There's still a few more weeks until Patch 7.3! Is there enough time to do everything? What's left, crash the hat market in Eorzea?
Final Fantasy XIV's Letter from the Producer LIVE Part LXXXVII just aired yesterday, packed with the latest updates for Patch 7.3! If you haven't had the chance to watch it yet, why not check out our Live Letter summary on IcyVeins?
Patch 7.3 is expected to release early in August, which is only a few weeks away! Each patch cycle is four months long, so I can't believe how fast time flies by. For the busy Warriors of Light, perhaps it's time to check things off your to-do list?
Here are five things you should do before the upcoming changes in Patch 7.3:
1. Ending Soon: PvP Series 8 and Crystalline Conflict Season 15
Have you done your PvP Series this season yet? There are some limited Series Malmstone rewards, such as the Magitek Slasher Identification Key, which will go away once Patch 7.3 arrives!
If you haven't started yet, you still have time! The last unique reward from PvP Series 8 is at Series Level 25. There are a variety of different ways you can get Series EXP, such as:
Crystalline Conflict matches, Rival Wings, and Frontline Roulettes! All three methods are approximately the same amount of time, but you will earn more or less Series EXP based on wins, ties, and losses. Learn more about the PvP Series 8 rewards here!
If you're still looking to rank up in Crystalline Conflict, the last tier of rewards is the Crystal tier. This will be changing, as they're adding two new tiers in Patch 7.3: Omega and Ultima! After reaching Crystal, you can only go up (or down!) based on your Crystal Credits.
Remember you can only progress in ranked matches on specific Logical Data Centers listed below. Good luck!
2. Suzaku Unreal Will Be Replaced
The faux commander asks you to regale him with a tale of fiery passion and heartbreak...
Have you tried out the latest Unreal duty yet? The Hells' Kier (Unreal) is only available until the start of Patch 7.3. Once the patch releases, The Wreath of Snakes (Unreal) will become the new Unreal duty instead. Seiryu will certainly prove to be a challenge!
Unreal duties are only available for a limited-time, and are the perfect way to get started in high-end raiding without committing to Arcadion Savage! You get to re-experience a fight from an older expansion, and learn how to play your job with ease at level 100! Go get some amazing Faux Hollow rewards before Suzaku's gone!
3. Hats, Hats, and More Hats!
Coming soon to Hrothgars and Vieras near you, Patch 7.3 will expand the supported headgear available for these races! This not only includes funny hats and helmets, but also the ability to hide Viera ears! Maybe I won't chop off my fluffy ears just yet...
There will also be newly added support for hair fringes too! We have so many Warriors of Light balding accidentally, now wearing hooded headgears won't feel so... revealing!
Headgear pieces are widely available everywhere: various marketboards, instanced duties, item exchanges, quest rewards... If there's something you might like, get it now before they're all gone!
4. Ready Your Phantom Weapons
With a new patch comes a new Phantom Weapon update, getting you one step closer to "perfection". In Occult Crescent, players can upgrade their relic weapons, eventually becoming the best-in-slot weapons by the end of Dawntrail. This is one way to power up without having to do Savage or Ultimate raids!
If you already completed the current steps for one Phantom Weapon, why not pick up another? Though there will be no updates to the Demiatma grind, relic weapons will surely keep you, well, busy! Maybe you won't suffer as much as the Warrior of Light over here...
5. Quests to Read with Just Enough Time
And last, but not least, why not get some light reading done? In Patch 7.3, there will be many story updates, including the main scenario quests and Echoes of Vana'diel alliance raid series. If you haven't done any of the quests below yet, schedule some reading time!
[Main Scenario Quest] Seekers of Eternity (Patch 7.2) [Alliance Raid] Echoes of Vana'diel - Jeuno: The First Walk (Patch 7.1) [Sidequest] Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures (Patch 7.25) [Allied Society] Pelupelu (Patch 7.1) and Mamool Ja (Patch 7.25) Also, if you want to explore the new Deep Dungeon in Il Mheg, you need to complete the main scenario quest "Endwalker". Stay tuned for more stories to experience in Patch 7.3!
Remember there's an upcoming Moogle Treasure Trove event, filled with limited-time rewards and fun activities to discover! For the promise of tomorrow, good luck with your adventures!
