wow Shadowlands 9.2 Season 3 Mythic+ DPS Log Rankings, Week 6: the Warlock Switcheroo

This week saw a bit of a Warlock switch, as Destruction is taking over for a while, with the double legendary effects still being processed, the class tuning being felt, and tier sets being acquired. With the Creation Catalyst available this week it will be interesting to see what happens when we check in at the end of it.

Note: The logs are based on POINTS, and not actual damage or healing, meaning they log the timed completion for the specs, with higher keys getting more points, obviously. The time in which the dungeon is completed is also a factor, but a much, much smaller one, as it grants very few points if you do it significantly faster than just any in-time completion. We're also using the Normalized Aggregate Scores numbers, for clarity, meaning the top spec is marked as 100 and then the rest are ranked in relation to that peak point.

We've had a Warlock switch-off this week in the dungeon side of things, Destruction basically switching places with Demo and rising 4 spots into 2nd, as Demo drops quite a bit further down. Survival is having a really good week all over the place, from the No.2 in the Sepulcher to now rising into the top 3 in Mythic+ as well! Frost Mage gets pushed down one as a result, but old reliable has returned to represent Mages, with Fire surging similarly to what it's doing in the raid, rising 3 spots into 6th. All of this commotion has pushed Demonology down quite a lot, almost out of the top 10, while the current rulers of the Sepulcher, Frost DKs, move up two and grab the final spot in there.

We see the same thing in the generalist bracket with the Warlock switcheroo and Survival moving up, with Marksmanship making use of the chaos to slip past Frost Mage. Windwalkers drop quite a bit as they land 3 down in 7th, Fury drops 1, and Demo and Frost DKs reprise their final two top 10 slots. Affliction is at the bottom everywhere it seems, as its rad position is mirrored here as well.

High Keys

+15 Keys

Survival was always doing good in +15s and it stays at the top this week, we see a very old-school battle between Subtlety and Windwalker play out for 2nd, with the Rogue coming out on top. Fire is rising here as well as Fury falls a few spots, and Destruction is also doing much better in the higher keys.

+20 Keys

The 20ies are becoming very stable, the top 3 holding the same specs, but the Rogues take over from the Warlocks, as Fire comes banging at their doors in No.4. Windwalkers actually improve this week, as Havoc holds steady, Marksmanship jumps 1, and Assassination is the big outlier, closing out the top 10.

I don't understand how this isn't just a chart of which specs are played the most and not relative performance.

I don't get how these rankings tie directly in to spec power/dps.

That's exactly what it is.  Through its influence on the community, the article itself serves to drive the higher "ranked" classes higher, and the lower ranked classes lower, by influencing which classes people will play in M+, or invite to their groups.

Relative performance affects those choices as well, of course, but player perception outweighs those practical considerations.  Player skill is a far greater differentiator than class choice.
