[Frost] Hey guys! Check me out.... please. No, really.

5 posts in this topic

Hello guys,

I started playing in May and this is my main (actually my only toon). I've been a 90 for about 8/10 weeks and I'd like to know if I'm going along the right path. Gear, gems, rotation - am I wasting spells, not playing effectively etc.

(I have tried LB and find I just don't like it or I'm just not comfortable enough to use it, yet - this is my first video game ever fyi)

Any help and feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! I have included links to my warcraft logs and to my armory.

Cheers!

Heyy!

I'm only a beginner at Mage so I can only give you advice on the basics (much of it from reading other posts). The first thing that stands out is Frost Bomb, Malk is a single target fight, use living bomb for it and try keep your uptime 97%+. You're Invoker's Energy uptime is a bit low too, I'd say try re-casting Evocation when the IE buff has around 1-2 seconds left, that way the moment it drops off it gets reapplied almost instantly, pre-plan your movement for that so you don't get insta-gibbed whilst doing so tongue.png You can use addons to track the uptime for both, weakauras/tellmewhen all work.

Finally, watch your Frost Fire Bolts and Ice Lance casts. You should not cast either without their respective buff, Ice Lance does too little damage when it's not a Fingers of Frost proc, and having gotten 17 FoF, you cast 8 more than you should have (25 casts). As for FFB, you gained the buff 34 times and had 35 casts, but from (click frost fire bolts casts to see them):

 http://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/CfJ3zLpy6cmR4MPV#fight=30&type=casts&source=5&pins=0%24Separate%24%23244F4B%24auras-gained%240%240.0.0.Any%240.0.0.Any%24true%24142235790.0.0.Mage%24false%2457761%5E0%24Separate%24%23909049%24auras-gained%240%240.0.0.Any%240.0.0.Any%24true%24142235790.0.0.Mage%24false%24137590

it seems you hardcasted 4 of your Frost Fire Bolts. This means you only made use of 31/34 procs and the rest were either overwritten or missed. You can track those too with addons (I like to do that) or just react to them a bit faster smile.png

That's all I can say for your logs, I can't do much commenting on your CD usage because I'm very unstable with that.

Hope it helps smile.png

Thank you so much for taking time to respond. I use TMW and am (mostly) aware of the FFB hard cast mistakes - not so much the IL and not keeping the Evocation up.

What addons do you suggest for the FFB/IL procs?

I know about LB in single target situations and, as of yet, experience a DPS drop when I switch because I'm just not used to it. Perhaps I need to practice with it in LFR more.

Thank you again. smile.png

Weak Auras or TMW works for both.

First time giving log advice, so it may not be completely thorough

First, I'll start with talents

From a DPS perspective Ice Floes, would be the best choice. Blink should be able to cover it.

Moving on, Swap Ice Ward for Temporal Shield. I highly recommend this due to the fact that Temporal is off the GCD which is nice.

It does not provide you with a flat amount of healing like Ice Ward, but unless you really need that extra absorb pick Temporal.

The internet really is great biggrin.png

Your CD usage is great

Right now this is all I can really help with, sorry for any inconveniences I may have caused

One more thing I strongly suggest that you switch from FB to LB/NT, because as you can see out of 28 fights it only pulls ahead on 3 (H Immer, N&H Galakras).

Also when/if you switch you will need to understand the art of snapshotting which can also be found here at IV

      Who are we?
Volatile are a group of mostly ex-mythic raiders, looking to get back into mythic raiding. We cleared through Nighthold heroic a number of months ago and need some more people in order to jump into mythic. Besides raiding our friendly bunch of members enjoy running mythic+ on daily basis, helping out with world quests among other things. Our discord is usually filled with members for daily banter and weekly fun. If you enjoy all that, you most certainly will enjoy your stay in Volatile.
      Who are we looking for?
We're primarily looking for both melee and ranged DPS to fill out the roster. At this time we are full on tanks and healers.
      Tanks - Closed
      Healers - Closed
Ranged DPS -Warlock and Shadow Priest but all classes will be considered
      Melee DPS - Ret Paladin
Overall we're looking for people with a good knowledge of their class/spec who know how to improve their gameplay. Being fairly thick skinned and being able to accept constructive criticism, as well as the occasional jab from some of our more 'outspoken' members, is a big plus too.
      When do we raid?
We raid two times a week as standard, we often have an additional raid day if necessary. See raid times below.
      Thursday: 8pm - 11pm (Server time)
      Sunday: 8pm - 11pm (Server time)
      Tuesday: 8pm - 11pm (Additional day)
      Application process:
We believe the best way to get to know if someone is right for the guild is just to have a chat, rather than go through a long application process. So we'll have a chat, look at logs and possibly run some M+ to get to know each other. If you're interested in joining our mythic raid team, contact any of the following:
      Contact us:
      GM:
      Xadel#2609, Xadel (ingame)
      Council:

All applications will be reviewed and considered however if you are playing a class/spec combination we need then your chances of joining will be higher.
A little bit of info about us:
We are a group of friends and serious raiders on EU Twisting Nether looking to recruit skilled like-minded players into our roster for Mythic Legion raids and onwards. We will offer a sociable and fun raiding environment while maintaining a strong desire for progression. Our Discord is very active and we encourage all members to chat and play together not only for raids. The guild formed late March 2016 and fully cleared 13/13 Mythic Hellfire Citadel pre nerf shortly after. We've since been improving our world ranking every tier.
We currently raid 3 days per week on Mythic: Wednesday, Sunday and Tuesday 19:15-22:15 server time. While it is not a lot we try to make the most out of our time. We run optional heroic/normal/alt/previous tier raids during off days in which raiders are welcome to come to. Our members also play other games outside raid times together where anyone is welcome to join(LoL, Dota, HotS, Overwatch etc.).
Our loot system for Mythic is RC Loot Council.
      What we expect from you:
      - We are a raiding guild with only a 9 hour per week schedule so you are expected to attend and be ON TIME! However we understand things can come up sometimes but please let us know.
      - Be able to speak and understand the English language and not be afraid to communicate with other members during raids.
      - Actively doing dungeons/world quests to improve your gear and artifact weapon.
      - Have a strong understanding of the current raid tier and be able to play your class to it's potential.
      - Always come to raids prepared(i.e. bringing food and potions, etc).
      - Come fully gemmed and enchanted with the correct stats for your class and spec.
      - Access to Discord and a working microphone.
      - Have a computer that can handle 20 man raiding and a good, stable internet connection.
      - Exorsus Raid Tools, Weakauras2 and RC Loot Council addons installed. We may ask you to install others.

If you have any further questions please contact us at battletags: Vims#21684 Azkey#21565
To apply please visit our guild website: http://asylum-tn.enjin.com/recruitment
