Cross-realm guilds - Any thoughts / advice?

6 posts in this topic

I know there are multiple guilds out there that, since the beginning of WoW, had a presence on multiple servers and sometimes even both factions. Looking at how the new expansion is lining up, it seems that having a cross-realm guild is now a possibility. Sure you won't be able to do Mythic raids, but you can now pick from quite a huge pool of people from your faction to go take on a new raid.

A group of friends and myself are coming back to the game and find that our server has reduced to a failry low population, so we figured it would be a great opportunity to take advantage of this new feature in WoD and try to put together a regular raiding group that doesn't necessarily have to belong to the same server. It seems that tools like Openraid will provide a community to get recruitment started at least.

I would be interested in other people's thoughts on how to recruit a raid team that operates like this, as well as any thoughts or obstacles that you may think need to be overcome in order to make this successful.

Currently I've just posted on several server forums, as well as in the guild recruitment areas of IcyVeins and Openraid.

I'm pretty sure we're not the only ones thinking about doing this, has anyone else tried? any advice that you can offer?

Thanks.-

P.S.: To any folks in Icy-Veins that may be reading this, it could be interesting to have a cross-realm recruitment forum.

I think they are definitely viable now what with the implementations that Blizzard has made.

It will be a lot harder to organise and maintain guild organisation but knowing what you need to do from the start should help.

Myself and my guild had similar problems - and tried to move server a few times (think we have a new home now) but obviously that costs ££ $$.

There will be a lot of players that are "stuck" on dead servers that should be interested.  I suppose you would need to encourage voice comms to try and get some sense of cohesion etc (thinking about outside of raids).

It will take a lot of doing and will be hard work but I wish you good luck!

With regards to the cross-realm recruitment forum (and I cant speak for Damien / Vlad) but I'm sure there would need to be plenty of activity before a new sub-forum was created (US and EU havent been split up even yet!)

The cohesion / chat system is a good point. I know that there are a few addons out there built for moving guild chat between servers, I could probably write one myself but not too inclined to doing so at the moment. However, I was hoping that the guild web page or the chat system in openraid would cover the ability to communicate that way.

Thanks for your notes.

This is something doable, as its basically what happened with the guild that I raid with my warlock in. There was a core 10 man, and the guild leader is someone with a good deal of experience and decided to host 25 man heroic runs with the core 10 going in, and filling the rest with experienced or qualified players from openraid. After a few weeks we're 9/14H and quite a few people are making server moves to play mythic when WoD comes out. Moving players is something that isnt required for you, and there are still more than half of our team that arent on our server with it working quite nicely. Openraid had a great pool of people to choose from to get started.

I think what can begin as a team +PUGS can evolve into something greater and like you Facade the PUGs then become part of the group.

My main concern would be around what makes a "guild".  For me its the togetherness etc.  If you can get everyone communicating over voice comms then tbh the chat ingame almost becomes obsolete.

I suppose a lot depends on how you want your guild to be between raids.  Personally (and I am by no means a progression raider might I add) its the guild chat / downtime between raids that have always helped my raid teams bond and this has always helped our performance.

How have you found the above Facade? Or have the players that are moving grown / bonded through the raids enough to want to move server and join fully?

Regarding the guild organization issue, you could decide with your buddies to split up to different realms, each one creating the same guild in a different realm and each of your friends being a GM of their subguild as well as that guild's link to the main guild. That way, each sub guild will always have access to an officer who's actually there in the same realm with them. Having trusted alts in the subguilds would also help with guild bank management.

      Uldir: 6/8 HC

For our history and a proper understanding of what we're about you can go to this page on our website.
I strongly recommend you give that a read before applying.

<Shiny Happy People> Is looking for the best of the worst to join us in Heroic raiding. We're looking for non-shit, banter-loving, trash-talkers to tear up Heroic raids, M+ and the occasional semi-serious PvP endeavour. We're long-time friends and former hardcore raiders going as far back as Vanilla. We're going semi-hardcore for BFA to enjoy ourselves better and play the game under our own more laid back rules. This means 2-3 days a week of raids with a steady progression and to make room for plenty of other activities. Our guild is situated on EU Thunderhorn but we have members on different realms, with a large cluster on Maelstrom. Because of this we see our Discord channel as our actual guild. And so you'll find most of the communication and organization to be done through Discord.

For more information you can visit our website.
For questions you can either contact me directly on Bnet PinkFap#2713 or join our Discord.

It remains our sole ambition to ensure this team is progressing through, and ultimately completing, BfA end-game content - up to and including Cutting Edge.   Expectations   What you can expect from us: A fun and friendly raiding team with an overt focus on raid progression combined with an understanding of life’s priorities Fair treatment when making the raid team selection - in the event that we are over-subscribed for raids, rotation decisions will be made to offer all capable individuals the opportunity to contribute to raid progression The opportunity to contribute to discussions regarding the guild’s strategies and decision-making Utilisation of the Personal Loot system   We are looking for players who: Can display relevant raid experience from Legion and/or previous expansions (at least 11/11HC in Antorus, the Burning Throne, is preferred) Can provide evidence (i.e. logs) of strong previous raid performance Take responsibility for their own raid attendance and performance Are open to constructive criticism and are prepared to be given advice on how to improve their performance in raids Will make every effort to educate themselves on developing raid strategies Will make every effort to maximise the performance of their character, including the studying of relevant logs Are prepared to take the initiative and make creative strategic suggestions to aid raid progression Enjoy being part of a team Are patient and understand that progression requires a positive and productive mindset   Recruitment and Requirements   Recruitment is currently open for the following classes/specs: Tanks - Monk (BM) or Druid (Guardian) [w/ DPS off-spec] Healers - Paladin (Holy) Ranged DPS - Druid (Balance), Mage (Any) & Warlock (Any) Melee DPS - Death Knight (Frost/Unholy), Monk (WW), Shaman (Enh) & Warrior (Arms)   Raid Schedule   Wednesday: 21:00-00:00

At least one 10 minute break will be held during every raid.   We will not be doing mandatory split runs, alt raids or PTR tests. However all scheduled raids will be highly organised and focused.   You will not be asked to raid additional days. However we do expect members to be active outside of raid times to continue progressing their main characters. We are also likely to be regularly running Mythic+ dungeons, especially early on in the expansion.   How to Apply   If you are interested in applying please complete our application form -> http://www.guilded.gg/r/AdwlVrMK8l <- and if you have any questions, please contact our Guild Master Xanten#2717   Successful applicants will be invited to join our Discord server, used as the main VOIP platform whilst we are raiding as well as the guild’s main text-based communication platform.   Thank you and we look forward to hearing from interested parties soon.

      Who We Are
Tequila Sundown is a mythic raid team formed within the <Karma Horde> guild on US-Stormreaver. Lead by a husband/wife team with high-level raiding experience dating back to WotLK, we're a "positively determined" progression team that maintains a light-hearted atmosphere while tackling mythic difficulty content. We're mature adults with jobs and family seeking like-minded players who have a passion for the game but want to avoid the needless angst or drama that often gets associated with progression raiding. We log on to have fun - so come have some fun with us!

      A Team Within a Community
Our raid team is one of three within the larger guild of <Karma Horde>, which was formed back during WotLK. As such, the guild and Discord are very active and social. There are always people around online and in-game. The community atmosphere is welcoming and friendly to players of all levels. The guild enforces a Code of Conduct that has zero tolerance for hate/offensive speech.
We are always looking to add players with a friendly personality and lots of passion for the game. We want players who are going to log in on non-raid nights and be down for all the other things we're into: pushing mythic+, doing world quests, PVP shenanigans, achievement hunting, hyper-competitive fishing.. there's so much to do and so many ways to enjoy the game. This is our favorite hobby and we'd like to play with you if it is yours, too.

      Progression Goals
      6/8H, 8/8N Uldir.
We strive for a fun environment that takes the challenges of mythic seriously and giving the content the respect it deserves. Our aim is, as all mythic teams, full clear of content but with always keeping the friendly spirit of camaraderie alive. Performance matters, but so does staying positive and finding the fun in the difficulty of a raid. We do not require mythic raid experience to join our team but we do expect mythic-level dedication and accountability from all of our raiders. You must be able to take constructive criticism and have ownership over your level of play, and be willing to put in the effort to be a contribution to the team.

      Raid Days/Times
      Our mandatory raids are:
      Tuesdays 8:45pm PT - 11:45pm PT
      Thursdays 8:45pm PT - 11:45pm PT
      Optional:
      Sundays 8:45pm PT - 11:45pm PT
Sundays are for farming the previous raid difficulty.
