Gear Upgrading System Changes in Patch 10.2: Everything You Need to Know

Recommended Posts

The gear upgrading system introduced in Patch 10.1 received some changes in Patch 10.2 and the following post aims to explain them in more detail.

The item level of loot in Season 3 went up by a whopping 39 item levels instead of the usual 26 item levels we're used to in between seasons. As a result, the gear upgrading system saw many tweaks and here are the highlights.

  • The Heroic Gear Track now has 6 upgrade ranks (up from 5 in Season 2).
  • The Mythic Gear Track has 4 upgrade ranks (up from 3 in Season 2).
  • Season 2 crests and crest fragments will become obsolete. Season 2 gear can no longer be upgraded, only if you have a few spare crests laying around in your inventory.

  • Crests are now in the currently tab rather than taking up valuable inventory space.
  • PvP gear is no longer upgraded with Honor, but uses Flightstone and crests in Season 3.
  • Every upgrade in Season 3 costs 15 crests.
  • The maximum number of crests you can get in Season 3 is 90 per week of each type, which is about 6 upgrades per tier per week (down from 10 in Season 2).
  • When you hit a cap on a crest type for the week, activities will instead give you the next highest crest that you have uncapped. This is a much-welcome change from Season 2 where you got nothing when you capped your crests for the week.
    • Example: If you're capped on Wyrm's crests you will instead receive Drake's crests when you haven't hit your weekly Drake's cap yet.
  • When you max out all your gear slots and run out of upgrades in Season 3, you can trade crests upwards at a rate of 1:6.
  • The upgrade NPC and crest exchange vendor are located in the Central Encampment in the Emerald Dream at 49.80 62.90.

Vaskarn sells the following items:

However, you can only use the vendor after completing the Dreaming of Crests quest.

Most of this feels welcome.  Off to the currency tab with it?  YAY. About time.

Except for the part where I'm not a first-tier raider and therefore all the gear I kinda cranked pretty hard to get is now utterly Not-Upgradeable-At-All.  That part hurts badly.

I think I need some burn cream for the scorch marks, but that's probably a grey item fished out of the burn zone in the dream area.

The fourth week of Dragonflight Season 3 is here and we're looking at the current Mythic+ tier list.
The following post is based on data from U.GG. Therefore, the data presented here may differ from Petko's Mythic Tier Lists maintained on our site.
      How the Data is Calculated
U.gg's tier list is created by evaluating damage and healing scores from the very best players and factoring in the frequency of each spec's appearances in the highest rankings of the current Mythic+ season. The tier list of each spec is determined by its effectiveness and prevalence at the highest levels of Mythic+ play.

IamEllekk recreated Eversong Woods using Houdini and Blender and here's the result.
As you can see in the below image, we have the characteristic Blood Elf architecture and the Burning Crystal.

We're back in the department of fortunate loot drops, this time, with Tindral Sageswift dropping four copies of the same item.
Tindral blessed a very lucky raid group with 4 pieces of Eternal Kindler's Greatstaff. While this isn't the record-breaking group who looted 5 Smoldering Seedlings from Larodar, it's still nice to see good old Tindral handing so many copies of the same item!

Throne of the Tides Updated the model used by the Ink of Ozumat to reduce the visual effects at its base. Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope Smolderon Fixed an issue where players would sometimes gain multiple stacks of Ignited Essence from 1 Living Flame. Fixed an issue where a Seeking Inferno could explode twice on Mythic difficulty. Tindral Sageswift Fallen Feathers now spawn 6 feathers on Mythic Difficulty (was 4). Items
Fixed an issue that caused the Large Renown bag of Dragon Isles Supplies to always unintentionally contain a Dream Wardens Tabard. Fixed an issue that could cause Gift of Urctos to fail to grant its bonuses. Quests
Fixed an issue preventing “Something Different” from being properly completed by PvP Brawls. Fixed an issue causing a Hunt choice to be unintentionally greyed out for “Aiding the Accord: The Hunt is On”.
