World of Warcraft Gear Upgrading Guide
Welcome to our comprehensive guide to the gear upgrading system for World of Warcraft Midnight. Here, we list the different types of gear you can get, explain how to upgrade it, and show you the upgrade requirements.
The Gear Upgrading System in World of Warcraft: Midnight
The gear upgrading system in World of Warcraft: Midnight allows players to increase their item level using seasonal crests and gold. Every piece of gear in the game comes with a tooltip informing you about the item's track and rank (upgrade possibilities).
To upgrade gear in Midnight Season 1, you must gather seasonal crests and pay a small amount of gold. You can preview the upgrade costs and see which item rank you can reach by speaking to any item upgrade vendor in the game.
Gear Tracks in Midnight Season 1
When you obtain gear, it will belong to one of five gear tracks: Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Myth. Each track has six upgrade levels, requires a unique crest type, and covers a specific item-level range within the Midnight gear progression system.
With the addition of Midnight, Blizzard streamlined the crest system to make gear
upgrading more intuitive. Each track has an associated crest with the same name,
and you will only be able to upgrade your gear using the crests associated with its track.
For example, Champion track gear can only be upgraded with
Champion Dawncrests.
You can only upgrade gear to the maximum item level of its track. For example, Hero track gear caps at item level 276 and 6/6 ranks, meaning it cannot be upgraded beyond that threshold.
Use the slider below to switch between Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, and Myth tracks:
Upgrading a single piece from rank 1/6 to 6/6 costs a total of 100 crests. Because the weekly crest cap is 100, fully upgrading one piece of gear will require all of your crests.
Where Can You Upgrade Gear in Midnight?

What Items Are Required to Upgrade Gear in Midnight Season 1?
In Midnight Season 1, Blizzard removed Valorstones from the gear upgrade system. Now, the only two currencies required to upgrade your gear are:
- Dawncrests: Seasonal gear upgrading reagents that drop from dungeons, raids, Mythic+ content, and other Midnight Season 1 activities.
- Gold: The primary currency in World of Warcraft, earned from nearly every activity in the game.
Dawncrests: Ranks and Sources
Dawncrests are seasonal gear upgrading materials used in the Midnight Season 1 crest system. Each gear track requires a specific type of crest.
You can obtain crests from Season 1 endgame content, including raid bosses, Mythic+ dungeons, delves, and outdoor world events.
In general, crests drop from the same type of content where that track of gear drops, making progression through the upgrade system straightforward.
