The latest developer talk from Zenless Zone Zero has revealed various details about version 2.0! From new characters and zones, to various gameplay adjustments and changes, 2.0 has a lot of surprises! Here is everything you need to know!

Zenless Zone Zero released a developer talk video this morning, where Game Designer Y is sharing various information about upcoming version 2.0 of the game. He also shared some of the projects they have for the future of Zenless Zone Zero.

What's the Plan for Season 2's Story?

Version 2.0, or what they call "Season 2" of the game, will of course launch with the next main story part. We will follow the Protagonist to a new area: The Waifei Peninsula.

Waifei Peninsula is a district of the Throne Quarter, near the Lemnian Hollow. The earlier settlers of this region were tasked with monitoring the highly volatile Lemnian Hollow.

"Waifei" derives from the Cantonese characters for "Protect" and "Anomaly": Protection from the anomaly called Hollows.

Today, you can find an established outpost that became the city called Failume Heights.

zzz-failium-heights.jpg

This city was built at the top of a cliff, and overlooks the bay with beautiful scenery. This area is also rich in Porcelume, a precious material highly resistant to Ether Corruption. Mining and processing Porcelum became the core industry of Waifei Peninsula. However, behind this lies a tangled mess of Factions. The proxies' role will be to unravel the clues planted throughout the story so far.

Those clues include figuring out Sarah's true plans behind the Sacrifice and Bringer incidents, the conspiracy behind the mysterious Exaltists, and the truth behind the fall of the old capital. We will also finally uncover the secrets of the Phaethon siblings!

Proxies will embark on new adventures and encounter new factions and characters! This includes:

  • More Obol Squad
  • Idol Faction - Angels of Delusion
  • The Wayseeker - Yixuan, the current leader of Yunkui Summit

yixuan-zzz.jpg

Yixuan will be a key character during season 2, and we will gradually uncover her mysterious past and become a new disciple of Yunkui Summit. She will be our mentor, helping us explore the Hollows directly.

A Trailer for Season 2 will be released on April 13th, 2025, so keep your eyes open for that announcement!

What Else Will Change for Season 2?

Compared to a regular update, Season 2 of Zenless Zone Zero will launch with quite a few changes and additions! The developer team has taken feedback from Proxies very seriously and incorporated it into their design philosophy. They applied changes from the ground up:

  • Map design: The entire map experience was revamped. Residential areas were integrated with combat zones at the system level, providing a more fluid and engaging gameplay. This means that residential areas will integrate many more exploration aspects! The following changes have been made to maps as well:
    • Failume Heights, for example will be much larger
    • Reduced loading times of scene transitions
    • Optimized pathways in Failum Heights
  • New dailies system that will match the local culture and customs of the Waifei Peninsula, such as:
    • Howl's scratch cards will take on new forms that match the vibes of Suibian Temple
  • As video-store owners, we will help Yunkui Summit manage various aspects of Suibian Temple:
    • Gameplay featuring management simulation elements
    • The goal will be to restore the Temple to its former glory
  • New feature called Bangboo Dispatch
  • Aerospace City - Ancient ruins located within the Lemnian Hollow - this is the area where we will start our exploration, and the design will be more refined than previous Hollows. This means larger explorable areas, more robust systems, and more streamlined guidance. This means, no longer returning to the video store to enter the HDD:
    • Accept mission
    • Explore/Fight
    • Complete Mission
  • Travel system was redesigned as well: larger map format instead of the original sliding area. This means you will be able to select your destination more quickly:
    • Improved UI experience
    • Mini-map added to the interface, along with navigation features
    • Better understanding of New Eridu's geographical layout
  • Regarding Plot structure: The current system between special episodes and Phaethon story resulted in weaker connections between plot points, and a disjointed viewing experience. For future versions, Special Episodes and Phaethon's Story will be merged together:
    • More focus on developing the connections between various Agents and the main story
    • Deepening the Proxies' involvement
    • Steadily update the main storyline with each version, but making sure to not compromise on its narrative quality
  • Zenless Zone Zero is being prepared to launch on Xbox soon. More information on that will be shared during the Xbox Livestream.
  • Optimized Events through various aspects:
    • Improved existing game modes: Grand Marcel Adventure, Bangboo vs Ethereal for example, to make them more fun for players
    • New gameplay such as:
      • Casual Duels between Bangboo
      • Control a Giant Bangboo
      • More slow-paced and relaxing events, such as spending joyful moments with Agents at hotspot restaurants, movie theaters, and more.

Plans and Adjustments for the Combat System

Various changes are also planned for the combat system. The way it is currently designed significantly diminishes the presence of characters other than the main DPS. You feel more like a solo operation rather than a three-person tactical squad. The functionality and performance of non-DPS characters will be enhanced:

  • Even when switched out, characters will still remain on-field and contribute to combat. This is already implemented a bit with the new Aftershock DMG system. This allows you to see their combat performance, without affecting the on-field Agent you control.
  • New attack and defense mechanics will be added to enemies:
    • Specific moves, may require specific counter-strategies
    • Counter strategies may require specific teamwork from different characters in your squad
    • In certain specific combat areas, enemies may gain advantages through specific conditions
  • Version 2.0 Special Program will reveal more about the combat changes. The goal with those changes is to enhance the overall synergy between characters.

Plans for Characters Released Earlier in the Game

The team's goal is to make sure that characters are relatively future-proof and have long-term value. They do not want to just mindlessly beef up their stats, but rather also maintain each character's unique traits. They will strategically enhance those unique traits, instead of just boosting their damage output. This means:

  • Completely reworking certain skills and their effects, tailoring them to each character's experience
  • More consideration for each character's role
  • They will take into consideration their compatibility with other future characters as well

With the character revamp, they really want to make sure that older characters keep their charms, and you do not feel like they are outdated, whether it is through their combat abilities or unique stories. Each character will also be better developed emotionally, making sure they have a goal that belongs solely to them. The goal is to create more meaningful relationships between characters and players, and take those bonds to the next level!

The team will continue to take Proxies' feedback very seriously, and will implement the needed changes to make sure everyone has a smooth and fun experience playing the game!

If you did not see it, and want more details on what is to come, you can take a look at the official video:

Zenless Zone Zero has dropped Vivian's demo trailer, and it's a heartfelt letter to her favorite Proxie, Lord Phaethon! Here is everything you need to know about the agent, her banner, and more!
The highly anticipated new agent for Zenless Zone Zero Version 1.7 Phase One, Vivian, will officially be available on April 23, 2025. Her banner will run until May 14, 2025, so make sure to grab her while you can!
Vivian is an S-Rank Ether Anomaly agent who is particularly good when paired with other Anomaly characters like Miyabi, Jane Doe, or Yanagi. For support, her best synergy is with Astra, offering both safety and strong boosts.
Like every agent, Vivian received a wonderful animated demo trailer — and you can watch it here:
This trailer takes a personal turn as it's presented as a direct letter from Vivian to Lord Phaethon. The video hints at Vivian's mysterious connection to the Proxies, implying that Phaethon may have helped her in the past — though, until now, she only knew them through the screens. More details might be revealed in the upcoming story chapters, so stay tuned for updates!
If you are curious about Vivian's kit details, optimal builds, and recommended teams, don't miss our complete Vivian build guide. You can also see how she ranks compared to other agents in our updated tier list!

Don't miss your final chance to recruit Trigger in Zenless Zone Zero before her banner leaves this week! Get a sneak peek at Vivian, her best teams, and banner details.
It's your last opportunity to pull for Trigger in Zenless Zone Zero before her banner switches out! If you've had your eye on this Stun Electric agent, now is the time to grab her — she won't be back until a future rerun banner!

If you have Soldier 0 Anby, Trigger provides the ideal support. She excels at dealing Aftershock DMG and serves as a reliable off-field stunner who doesn't take away field time from your main DPS agents. On top of that, she's easy to build and doesn't require heavy investment in premium gear to perform well.
The downside? Trigger doesn't slot neatly into every squad — at least for now. Her best setup is, of course, the Aftershock Squad alongside Soldier 0 Anby and Astra Yao. She's also a great off-field support for agents who demand a lot of field time themselves, like Soldier 11 or Anton.
For a full breakdown of her abilities and best build, check out our Trigger guide and builds! And if you are curious where she stands among the rest, take a look at our updated Tier List.
      Vivian's Banner Starts This Week

Right after Trigger leaves, it's Vivian's time to shine! She will be joining the Exclusive Channel banner pool in just a few days. Vivian is an Ether Anomaly agent from Mockingbird, and she's Lord Phaethon's number one fan and sworn protector!
Vivian is a beginner-friendly agent who delivers impressive off-field damage. She generates Feather Stacks through multiple sources and, like Trigger, doesn't need premium gear to be effective. Her main drawback is that her Energy can feel a bit restrictive, and without Astra Yao on your team, her gameplay might feel clunky.
Vivian's best teams pair her with Astra Yao and agents like Miyabi, Jane Doe, or Yanagi.
Want to learn more about her kit, playstyle, and builds? Check out our Vivian guide and best builds!

Dressed in a gothic-inspired outfit and wielding a parasol, Vivian stands out as a stylish yet deadly ally. Her in-game skills focus on Ether-based Anomaly attacks, delivering high damage over time.

The Zenless Zone Zero 2.0 trailer reveals new characters, enemies, and mysteries. Get a first look at what is coming in Season 2!
Hoyoverse has officially dropped the highly anticipated trailer for Zenless Zone Zero's upcoming Season 2 — and things are about to get a lot darker! Titled "Through the Miasma of Memories and Evil", this new trailer offers a mix of fun and dark moments, teasing what is in store for Version 2.0.
The trailer reveals mysterious new faces, dangers lurking within the Hollows, and hints at the next major chapter in New Eridu's unfolding story. If you have been waiting for new content and agents to join your squad, this one is for you.
You can watch the trailer here:
The main story will take us to the Waifei Peninsula, a district within the Throne Quarter, located near the Lemnian Hollow. Our Proxies will follow Yi Xuan, the current leader of Yunkui Summit.
Yi Xuan is a Void Hunter-ranked Special Investigator, and one of the key characters of Season 2. She is serving as both a key figure in the main story and our new mentor! Most of our investigation will unfold in Failum Heights, a brand-new outpost.

You can also expect the following content for Season 2:
New Playable Agents: The trailer teases several new playable characters, though Hoyoverse is keeping their details secret for now. Expect Yi Xuan to be among the first new agents available. The trailer also hints at a Panda character, a Wolf-like agent, a smaller character from an unknown race, and a girl with distinct horns and a stinger tail, and much more. While missing from the trailer, we should finally see the long-awaited Idol Faction agents join the roster as well. Terrifying New Foes: Proxies will be in charge of putting an end to the Sacrifice and Bringer incidents. Expect to face off against strange creatures emerging from the Hollows, suggesting tougher endgame battles and possible new combat mechanics. Story Developments: The story also dives deeper into the dark mysteries of the Hollows, Proxies, and New Eridu's hidden past. Could this be the update where we finally learn more about the origins of the Proxies themselves? Beautiful New Locations: The trailer reveals wonderful new zones, this time heavily inspired by Chinese aesthetics. Expect plenty of beautiful new areas to explore. Bangboo Appearances: Keep an eye out for new Bangboo variants joining the story as well! As of now, Hoyoverse has not confirmed an official release date for Version 2.0. However, based on the trailer's timing and previous patch cycles, it is likely to launch within the next few weeks. We will update you as soon as a date is officially announced!

The latest Zenless Zone Zero 1.7 beta has revealed the Polychrome count for F2P and low spender players. Here is what you can expect for the upcoming version!
Since it is often hard to know exactly how many Polychromes are available in a patch, leaker Palito shared an estimate for Zenless Zone Zero version 1.7. You can view the details in the Reddit post linked below:
Keep in mind this is Beta-based data and might be missing some details! It offers a brief overview, and further rewards could be added through other events or promo codes.
F2P players will be able to obtain the following:
11,020 Polychromes 21 Master Tapes 30 Standard Tapes 91 Boopons This amounts to a total of 90 pulls. Compared to version 1.6, this means 10 fewer pulls. Players with the Inter-Knot pass will have a total of 117 pulls, while those with both the pass and the Battle Pass will have 126.
Keep in mind, this is not the exact total, since some details might be missing from the Beta. Those numbers also depend on completing every event and endgame activity. Failing to clear Hollow Zero, Shiyu, or Deadly Assault will result in fewer Polychromes.
