Prot Pally Macro Help?

3 posts in this topic

I was wondering If someone savy with macros could tell me if what I have in mind is possible and help me make it.

The idea is to have 1 button that will prioritise sotr. But when bastion stacks are at 5 and holy power is at 3-5 AND player health is <=50% it will instead cast WoG. Sounds a bit complicpated so not sure if it can be done but would be pretty cool if possible!

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Might have been possible when macros were first implemented, as much as have heard from some people.
But at the moment, not even close.

You could probably make a weak aura to tell you what you are looking for and then have WoG as like a shift mod for your SoTR botton. Weak auras have made my life so much easier in wow on all my toons.

I’m in the process of rerolling a tank. My question is: How do I know if I’m doing a good job?

I currently play a hunter and as a DPS the metrics that I use to judge my performance are fairly simple. If I’m consistently sitting in the top X percentile of DPS for my spec and gear; and sitting in at least the bottom half of the raid for damage taken, I can be relatively sure that I’m doing good DPS and doing the mechanics well too.

However, as a tank this falls apart. Damage taken and even damage mitigated are poor metrics because I need to know if I’m taking and avoiding/mitigating the right damage. For example, I may mitigate 95% of the total damage in a fight, but if the 5% that I don’t mitigate is the 5% that is vital to avoid then I have done a poor job. Damage taken is bad because I may only be sitting at the top of damage taken because I didn’t switch when I needed to, therefore taking unnecessary damage.

Staying alive is a poor metric too, just because I’ve stayed alive doesn’t mean that I’ve done a good job. What if I’m only alive because a healer needed to make the choice to keep me alive while I was taking excess damage and sacrifice one or more DPS in the process.

Keeping threat and tank switching etc at the right time is bad as well because there is more to tanking than just mechanics.

I’ve done some reading and apparently there is or was a ranking system for tanks in wowlogs. But after a long look I can’t find it and all the posts relating to this were over 12 months old, so I assume it’s been removed.

I’ve also spoken to our MT about this and his response was ‘I don’t know’. As someone who wants to preform at the highest level possible, I find it unacceptable to not be able to judge how I’m preforming relative to my past self (am I improving?) and other people in a similar position.

So, how do I judge if I’m doing a good job tanking and what areas need to be improved?

      Hey ho! :)
There are two new Macros since 7.1 for Spells which you have to place with the cursor (green circle), like our Metamorphose or for example: Shaman's Healing Rain.
      The old Way:
      - Press Button
      - move green circle
      - klick to place

NOW and much faster, there are two new ways:

      Way One - At Player:
      #showtooltip
      /cast [@player] Metamorphose
If you Press the Button with this macro, there is NO cursor-move and NO click.
You char will use Meta instant without moving a meter.
This one is nice if you are staying in group of enemys and don't want to risk beeing out of range after using your Meta.

      Way Two - At Cursor:
      #showtooltip
      /cast [@cursor] Metamorphose
BEFORE using this macro you have to place your cursor at your target/ground/...
If you press the Meta-Button now there is no more to do. Your DH will Meta-Jump to the cursor-point. So there is NO click.
This is a nice one to enter a fight. Here you can add something like /use Potion of the Old War or/and /use Chaosblades, too.

I'm using both for the situations which I explained.

      Hope it will help you!
Done my best with my english - hope you will understand!

So I just got back into WoW on 12/15/2016 and I haven't played since 2011. I'm a bit confused on Macro's; as I am playing a warrior I see a few skills I want to put on a macro, but it doesn't seem to be working the way I remembered. I thought if you put procs then long cds then a basic attack, it would proc the first two if they were up, if not it would just keep regularly attacking.
From what I remember it was
      #showtooltip
      /cast Victory Rush
      /cast Execute
/cast Slam (or whatever basic attack)

But it just keeps trying to use victory rush, it won't go on to the next in the macro etc.
