Gate of the Setting Sun Dungeon Guide
For generations, a massive wall called the Serpent's Spine has protected the denizens of Pandaria from periodic assaults by the rampaging, insect-like mantid. This brutal race's cycle of aggression recently began earlier than expected, catching the wall's defenders off guard. As the mightiest mantid warriors charge the battle-worn gates, Pandaria must hold back the most devastating army in the land's recorded history.
Introduction
This dungeon is available on all 4 dungeon difficulties, starting at level 88 on normal difficulty. Here players will face off against four bosses in an effort to stop the armies of the Mantid from advancing further across the lands of Pandaria.
Located in the Dread Wastes atop the Serpent's Spine wall, the Gate of the Settting Sun serves as the Mantid Army's forward base and requires an all-out assault to break down the fortress walls in this siege-styled dungeon.
Saboteur Kip'tilak
Saboteur Kip'tilak will constantly use
Throw Explosives,
creating multiple
Stable Munitions throughout the room. When
the
Stable Munitions explode, they create 4-lines of Fire in each
direction around it, dealing damage to any players hit and detonating any other
Stable Munitions hit by the flames. Saboteur Kip'tilak will
also target random players with
Sabotage, causing them to
explode in a similar fashion to the
Stable Munitions, creating
4-lines of Fire as well. At both 70% and 30%, Saboteur Kip'tilak
will detonate all
Stable Munitions throughout the room, making this
very dangerous.
Start by having everyone spread around the room to prevent the explosions
and flames from hitting multiple players. All players should quickly move away
from any nearby Stable Munitions and always be aware of any explosions
that send fire towards your direction. This fight requires frequent movement and
positional awareness as you can easily die at either 70% or 30% if
you are near too many bombs.
Striker Ga'dok
The main mechanic of this fight is the
Strafing Run that
Striker Ga'dok performs at both 70% and 30% health. Ga'dok
will fly away from the platform while an emote is displayed saying "Striker Ga'dok
prepares to make a strafing run!" Striker Ga'dok will then choose one
third of the room to bombard, dealing devastating damage to any players caught
in the strafe runs path. Be aware of which direction Striker Ga'dok flies
towards when you see the emote and avoid the
Strafing Run path.
While flying in the air, Striker Ga'dok will summon adds to attack your
party which periodically throwing an Acid Bomb at a random player, creating
a large pool of deadly green acid on the floor which players should quickly move
out of. Deal with these adds quickly before Ga'dok lands to stop the
Acid Bombs
and reduce tank damage taken.
Commander Ri'mok
Commander Ri'mok constantly drops
Viscous Fluid at his
feet, creating a large puddles of green acid. Players standing in this acid will
take high damage-over-time, and Commander Ri'mok will gain a stacking
buff that increases his damage dealt and reduces his damage taken per stack.
Commander Ri'mok also attacks all players directly in front of him with
Frenzied Assault, requiring all non-tank players to avoid his front
at all times, especially while he is being moved around constantly by the tank to
avoid the acid puddles.
Whilst constantly moving to deal with the acid puddles, your tank will also
need to contend with numerous Krik'thik Saboteurs and Krik'thik Swarmers
that will frequently spawn during the encounter. Krik'thik Saboteurs should
be interrupted whenever they attempt to cast Bombard as this
deals high damage to all players.
Raigonn
Raigonn is a two-phase encounter. During phase one
Raigonn will be trying to break through the castle doors, ignoring
players and not requiring a tank. During this phase he will summon numerous
adds to aid him.
When engaged, and frequently throughout the encounter, Raigonn
will call in waves of eight Krik'thik Protectorate which should be
tanked and quickly killed. Raigonn will attack random players
with Krik'thik Swarm Bringers, afflicting them and any nearby allies with
Screeching Swarm. Spread out to avoid damaging each other and
quickly kill the adds to stop the AoE damage. Lastly Krik'thik Engulfers
will fly above players, creating multiple
Engulfing Winds (tornadoes)
throughout the room. These must simply be avoided while they are active.
To attack Raigonn himself, players will need to use the
Raigon Launcher (shown below) to launch themselves on top of Raigonns
back. From here players will be able to attack his Weak Spot. When
enough damage has been dealt to this Weak Spot, Raigonns
hardened outer carapace will break, increasing his damage taken by 300%
( Broken Carapace), and beginning phase two.
Phase two is a straight forward kite phase. Raigonn will target
a random player with Fixate, chasing them around the room and
frequently changing targets. The player targeted by
Fixate should
kite Raigonn away from other party members, as he will constantly
use
Stomp while chasing the targeted player. Adds will no longer
spawn during this phase, allowing you to clean up any that are remaining before
finishing off Raigonn himself.
