Scarlet Monastery Dungeon Guide
The Crusade's fanatical leaders direct their followers from the Scarlet Cathedral, at the heart of the monastery grounds. This heavily guarded location functions as the order's headquarters, and some of the most zealous and intolerant crusaders roam the halls of this once-hallowed place.
Introduction
This dungeon is available on all 4 dungeon difficulties, starting at level 27 on normal difficulty. Scarlet Monastery is one of the three revamped dungeons added in during Mists of Pandaria. Replacing the previous Scarlet Monastery: Graveyard and Cathedral wings of the original dungeons, this classic dungeon allows players to rediscover the crimson halls of the Scarlet Crusade.
Thalnos the Soulrender
Thalnos the Soulrender returns to the dungeon, this time bolstering a
wide arsenal of Necromancy spells, allowing him to raise the dead to his aid.
He will often use
Raise Fallen Crusader, raising multiple Scarlet
Crusaders to his side, which should be quickly killed off before they can overwhelm
the party. After the Crusaders have been dealt with, Thalnos the Soulrender
will summon a spirit, attempting to re-raise the Crusaders once again. If the
summoned spirit reaches a Fallen Crusaders body it will transform into a
Empowered Zombie, which deals devastating damage and has a very
large health pool, preventing it from being a realistic target. Be ready for
Thalnos the Soulrender to use
Summon Empowering Spirits and quickly
kill the summoned spirit to prevent it from becoming a Empowered Zombie.
With all of the adds now under control, Thalnos the Soulrender himself
becomes much easier. Be quick to dispel the Evict Soul debuff and
try to interrupt the
Spirit Gale casts as often as possible.
Brother Korloff
Brother Korloff is a Monk that deals heavy Fire AoE damage, all of
which can be avoided. Brother Korloff gains a stack of
Rising Flame
every 5 seconds, increasing his Fire damage dealt by 10% per stack. This makes it
better to save defensive cooldowns later on into the fight if possible.
Quick movement allows players to entirely avoid all damage on this fight.
Firestorm Kick will show a orange circle (see pic above) where it
will land, allowing players to move out of the area.
Blazing Fists
deals high Fire damage to all enemies in front of Brother Korloff. Be
mindful of where Brother Korloff is facing always as he will frequently
be moving around. Upon reaching 50% health Brother Korloff
will begin to use
Scorched Earth, leaving a large trail of fire
behind when he moves.
High Inquisitor Whitemane
High Inquisitor Whitemane also sees a return in this new, two-phase
encounter. As with the previous version of this dungeon, you must clear the
entire cathedral first before engaging in combat. In phase one players will
face-off against Commander Durand, with High Inquisitor Whitemane
joining in the fight to resurrect him once he has been slain.
Commander Durand only has one main ability to worry about,
Dashing Strike, which charges a random area and deals damage to
all enemies caught in the path. Look for the indicated charge direction and
quickly move out of the way whilst you finish him off. Once Commander Durand
has died, High Inquisitor Whitemane will join the fight by putting everyone
to sleep and resurrecting Commander Durand, who will continue using the
same abilities.
High Inquisitor Whitemane's main threat is Mass Resurrection,
which will attempt to resurrect all dead Crusaders within 100 yards. If this
cast goes off you most likely will wipe, so be sure to always interrupt it.
She will periodically use
Power Word: Shield, which should be
quickly dispelled.
