Shado-Pan Monastery Dungeon Guide
War has spread across Pandaria, and the destructive conflict between the Horde and Alliance has led to turmoil in the majestic Shado-pan Monastery. There, three malevolent entities-- the Sha of Violence, the Sha of Hatred, and the Sha of Anger--have erupted from their prisons. Although the Sha of Anger fled the secluded monastery completely, the remaining sha have begun wreaking havoc on the site's brave Shado-pan defenders.
Introduction
This dungeon is available on all 4 dungeon difficulties, starting at level 87 on normal difficulty. Players will join the Shado-Pan forces on a mission to purge their sacred monastery of Sha corruption, which has blighted the lands. Facing off against possessed monks, dark manifestations, and your own inner peace, Shado-Pan Monastery offers players a robust adventure.
Gu Cloudstrike
Gu Cloudstrike is a three-phase encounter dealing with heavy Nature
and Lightning elements. During both phase one and phase three it is recommended
that players spread out to avoid the AoE damage present during these phases. In
phase one Gu Cloudstrike uses
Invoke Lightning on random
targets, dealing damage and chaining to nearby allies. He will also target a random
player with
Static Field, creating a very large field of
visible electricity.
Phase two begins when Gu Cloudstrike reaches 50%. In this phase
Gu Cloudstrike summons a Azure Serpent at the nearby ledge to
aid him in battle. Whilst the Azure Serpent remains alive,
Gu Cloudstrike will channel Charging Soul on himself, making him
immune to all damage. The tank should be ready to face the Azure Serpent
away from the group as it frequently uses
Lightning Breath, damaging
all enemies in front of himself. The Azure Serpent will also use
Magnetic Shroud on the group, absorbing all healing received. Healers
will need to quickly choose a player such as the tank and quickly spam large heals
into them until the absorption requirement of
Magnetic Shroud has been
met. Once the healer has "fully healed" the shield it will burst, also causing all
other shields to break on the rest of the group. Finish off the Azure Serpent
and the final phase will begin.
Once the Azure Serpent dies, Gu Cloudstrike will stop the
Charging Soul channel and become active once again. In this final phase
Gu Cloudstrike will only use one spell,
Overcharged Soul.
Overcharged Soul hits all enemies, and deals increased damage
equivalent to Gu Cloudstrikes missing health.
Master Snowdrift
Master Snowdrift is the second boss inside the dungeon, split up
into three phases. During this phase Master Snowdrift will often
use
Fists of Fury, dealing high damage to all enemies in front of
him. He will also occasionally use
Tornado Kick, dealing AoE
damage to all nearby enemies and knocking them back; melee DPS should move away
from Master Snowdrift until
Tornado Kick finishes,
and all non-tank players should avoid standing in front of Master Snowdrift.
Once Master Snowdrift reaches 50% health he will vanish
and create images of himself. These images will disappear and reappear at random
around the room, casting Ball of Fire in random directions; this
creates a Ball of Flames that deals damage to players along its traveling path.
Chip away at the images each time they appear, slowly whittling their health bars
down as you simultaneously avoid the
Ball of Fire. Once all images
have been defeated, Master Snowdrift will reappear and phase three
will begin.
In this final phase Master Snowdrift will use two main abilities,
the first being Tornado Slam. Master Snowdrift will
fixate on a random player and chase them around the room, using
Tornado Slam
should he catch them. The targeted player must kite around the room, avoiding
Master Snowdrift for as long as possible until he changes targets.
Melee DPS should be on the lookout for Master Snowdrift gaining the
Parry Stance buff, as this will cause him to retaliate against
melee attacks, dealing very high damage and stunning the target. Ranged DPS can
safely ignore the
Parry Stance, while melee DPS should simply stop
damage and wait until
Parry Stance falls off.
Sha of Violence
The Sha of Violence is a very basic fight. Have ranged DPS and healers
stand at maximum range and spread out. Periodically the Sha of Violence will
throw a
Sha Spike at a random player, dealing high damage to all enemies
remaining in the area and summons a Lesser Volatile Energy add. Players
must quickly move from the indicated attack area to avoid the damage, and then
kill the summoned Lesser Volatile Energy adds. The tank will
periodically be debuffed by
Disorienting Smash, causing them to wander
around confused for 4-seconds, this can and should be dispelled as soon as
possible.
The Sha will also often use Smoke Blades to damage nearby
enemies and reduce their chance to crit by 100% for 30 seconds. The
Smoke Blades debuff has its duration reduced by 5 seconds each
time the debuffed player uses a spell, allowing most classes to quickly drop the
debuff off. Once the
Smoke Blades debuff is removed, players will
gain a temporary buff,
Parting Smoke, doubling the damage of your next
attack, and guaranteeing it will be a critical strike.
Taran Zhu

This encounter brings a new mechanic, Hatred, which is displayed on a red
UI bar that is present during combat. This bar starts out empty and slowly fills
up over time as you take damage. Upon reaching full Hatred, players will enter a
Haze of Hate, reducing their chance to hit by 100% and healing
done by 75%.

Since players will be taking plenty of unavoidable damage, it is inevitable
that you everyone will gain Hatred, especially the tank. To counter this, everyone
also has the spell
Meditate, which can be channeled a short while
to remove the
Haze of Hate debuff and reset your Hatred bar.
Taran Zhu will frequently cast Rising Hate at
random enemies. This should be interrupted as often as possible. He will also
periodically use
Ring of Malice, surrounding himself in a Shadow
ring, reducing his movement speed by 80%, and dealing damage to players
that touch the outside of the ring.
Ring of Malice only deals
damage to the players on the outside of the ring, make sure you are either all
the way in or out of the ring to avoid damage. While
Ring of Malice
is active, Taran Zhu will knock the tank away with
Sha Blast, also dealing high Shadow damage.
Finally, Taran Zhu will regularly summon a Gripping Hatred, which must be killed as it deals high AoE damage to all nearby enemies and constantly pulls players on top of it.
