Mists of Pandaria Classic Jewelcrafting Profession and Leveling Guide
Jewelcraftings
main purpose is to cut gems, which can be placed into gear with gem sockets.
These gems offer raw stats depending on the color of the gem as well as the
specific gem cut chosen. In this guide we will go over all the different items
players with Jewelcrafting can make, how gems and sockets work, as well as help
you level and get the most out of your new profession.
Mists of Pandaria Jewelcrafting Profession and Leveling Guide
Jewelcrafting's
main purpose is to cut gems to fill open gem sockets on gear. This is a great
way to enhance already powerful gear and customize it to further boost your
desirable stats. Beyond gems, Jewelcrafting is also well known for making rare
and valuable jewelry, such as rings and necklaces.
Mining is a great complement to
Jewelcrafting, as having Mining will allow you to farm the vast majority of
materials you will need to both train and utilize Jewelcrafting for crafted item
in the endgame. Due to the amount of bars used to craft items near max skill
level, it can get extremely costly very quickly; having mining greatly mitigates
this cost.
Prospecting
Prospecting is a new skill that comes alongside with
Jewelcrafting.
It allows you to convert 5 ore into random materials, most commonly gems that
are needed for many different patterns to level the profession. Similar to how
other professions work, each ore has a minimum skill required to be able to
prospect it, based on your Jewelcrafting skill.
Prospecting may be an
easy way to obtain rare gems, and can even profitable when used on endgame ore
depending on the market prices.

If your goal is not be a max level Jewelcrafter,
we suggest that you take advantage of the research spells that become available at skill level
525, such as
Sun's Radiance. You will have the option to choose a
gem color to research, and you will learn a gem from that color; this has a 1-day
cooldown and give +3 skill. Slowly leveling you through research is a great way
to get a max profession for nearly free!

Leveling Jewelcrafting 575–600
You will want to research one of the following daily. These dailies share a
cooldown, so only one can be completed per day. Upon completion, you will be
able to learn a gem of the same color research that you performed. If you do not
need to rush to max level Jewelcrafting,
we suggest thah you slowly level up by casting one of these searches daily. As
these give +3 skill point per cast, you will quickly level up on your own.
