Windwalker Monk PvP Guide for Mists of Pandaria Classic
Welcome to our Mists of Pandaria Windwalker
Monk PvP guide! The following pages
will lead you through the basics of Windwalker Monk PvP.
Windwalker Monk PvP Overview
The Windwalker Monk offers a versatile
and well-rounded playstyle. This specialization functions as a blend of the Rogue and Warrior,
providing stuns, and a balance between steady, reliable damage output and sudden, high-impact damage bursts.
Flexible and fast-paced play-style
Ability to one-shot enemies with
Touch of Death
Strong survivability toolkit
Good crowd-control
Huge burst-on-demand damage potential
Mostly melee damage
Playstyle can be difficult for beginners
Huge learning curve for optimal performance
Talent Build and Glyphs
Major Glyphs
Glyph of Touch of Death —
Touch of Death requires no more Chi and therefore this Glyphs gives you a guaranteed kill, if an opponent is below your health.
Glyph of Touch of Karma — Increases your
Touch of Karma's range to 25 yards, making it more useful versus ranged attacks.
Glyph of Paralysis — acts like
Glyph of Polymorph from Mages, removing all dots from your
Paralysis target, avoiding that the target instantly dropping the crowd-control effect.
Glyph of Sparring — is particularly useful when fighting PvP compositions with casters and melees in it. When fighting in melee, you will gain a passive spell-reflect effect, hitting the caster.
Minor Glyphs
The Glyph of Blackout Kick is basically the only useful Glyph for
Battlegrounds and Arenas, increasing your damage dealt. The
Glyph of Zen Flight
is useful in World PvP, when you want to avoid fall damage.
Rotation and Playstyle
Basic Rotation, Cooldowns and Burst
If you have not already, we also recommend taking a look at the Spells Summary page. The better you know your abilities, the better and more versatile you are at playing your Monk. The rotation always depends on what your enemies do and if they are frozen or not. For a better understanding of when your spells deal most damage, we highly recommend reading the Rotations page from the PvE section, where you also find a list and explanation of all your cooldowns.
If you would like to initiate a burst, you should wait for your trinket to be ready.
Ensure that you have accumulated at least five stacks of Tigereye Brew for the damage
increase. Use
Tigereye Brew (which is your standard damage cooldown) and have a minimum of two Chi available in order to cast
Rising Sun Kick, as it will apply a debuff to the target that causes them to take
20 percent increased damage. Make sure that the
Tiger Palm buff is active. At this
point, you should activate either
Rushing Jade Wind or
Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger,
depending on which ability you are using. Follow that with
Fists of Fury and maybe a
Touch of Death, and the enemy will be unable to respond effectively.
Another popular strategy makes use of Storm, Earth, and Fire. With this ability, you can
spread out your damage, letting one or two copies of yourself attack one target, while you
attack another target.
Stuns and Control
With Leg Sweep,
Fists of Fury, and
Paralysis you can control your foes
pretty well, while dealing damage to other enemies. Leg Sweep is particularly useful, when
fighting big groups of enemies, as it stuns all enemies in a radius of 5 yards, while Fists
of Fury stuns and damages all enemies in front of you. Paralysis acts as a single-target crowd-control effect.
Best Professions
If you are looking to maximize the potential of your Windwalker
Monk in Mists of
Pandaria PvP, we recommended
Tailoring and
Engineering. As in PvE, these remain the
best professions for Windwalker Monks. Tailoring really shines with
Lightweave Embroidery. This cloak enchant gives you a massive 2000
Intellect proc over the course of 15 seconds, which will most likely proc
during cooldowns, and can be combined with Engineering's
Synapse Springs (1920 Intellect for 10 seconds). Both can be stacked
and prolonged for 6 seconds with
Alter Time, giving you huge burst
potential. Besides the Synapse Springs, Engineering offers the very useful
Nitro Boosts.
