1. Heroes Azmodan Works Well With

In this section, we will look at the heroes that work particularly well with Azmodan.

1.1. Johanna

Johanna Portrait Although very good at peeling threatening foes off of Azmodan, Johanna's true synergy stems from her Condemn Icon Condemn ability, which makes gathering Taste for Blood Icon Taste for Blood stacks a painless task. Condemn Icon Condemn can also pull foes close to eachother, allowing for perfect Globe Of Annihilation Icon Globe Of Annihilation hits. Punish Icon Punish and Blessed Shield Icon Blessed Shield can both be used to keep foes within range of All Shall Burn Icon All Shall Burn for much unavoidable damage.

1.2. Leoric

Leoric Portrait Leoric works well with Azmodan for reasons that are very similar to Johanna; though he is not quite as adept at peeling, his Skeletal Swing Icon Skeletal Swing ability is extremely reliable for Taste for Blood Icon Taste for Blood stacking purposes. Leoric's Drain Hope Icon Drain Hope and All Shall Burn Icon All Shall Burn can be used against a singular target to kill them unreasonably quickly, especially after a good Entomb Icon Entomb cast.

1.3. Malfurion

Malfurion Portrait Azmodan is often Mana-starved due to his ability-heavy playstyle. This makes Malfurion's Innervate Icon Innervate ability invaluable to improve your Taste for Blood Icon Taste for Blood stacking uptime. Beyond this, Moonburn Icon Moonburn, a popular talent, allows Malfurion players to very efficiently fine-tune Minion waves so that your Globe Of Annihilation Icon Globe Of Annihilation may be very efficient for early stacking purposes. Entangling Roots Icon Entangling Roots is a reliable area of effect crowd control tool that can be used to peel for you or otherwise as a setup for your abilities.

1.4. Zagara

Zagara Portrait Beyond the fact that all of her summons greatly benefit from General of Hell Icon General of Hell's aura, Zagara's Creep Tumor Icon Creep Tumor ability provides an outstanding amount of vision. This allows you to more reliably poke with Globe Of Annihilation Icon Globe Of Annihilation. Baneling Barrage Icon Baneling Barrage is also very good at setting up Minion waves for gathering Taste for Blood Icon Taste for Blood stacks.

2. Heroes Azmodan Is Countered By

In this section, we will look at the heroes that counter Azmodan particularly well.

2.1. Diablo

Diablo Portrait Diablo is the master of interruption, as Shadow Charge Icon Shadow Charge and Overpower Icon Overpower can both very reliably be used against you. When used together, these abilities can also set you up to be body blocked in an undesirable position. Furthermore, Diablo can push you off of your Black Pool Icon Black Pool, which limits your damage. His very large Health pool, combined with his percent-based lifestealing talents, makes him difficult for you to kill.

2.1.1. How To Play Against Diablo

All of Diablo's abilities have very limited range; focus on remaining behind your teammates and poking with Globe Of Annihilation Icon Globe Of Annihilation above all else. When you see Diablo use his Shadow Charge Icon Shadow Charge, it becomes much safer for you to engage with All Shall Burn Icon All Shall Burn, should you have to. Be watchful for his Apocalypse Icon Apocalypse Heroic Ability; remain on the move while casting All Shall Burn after acquiring the March of Sin Icon March of Sin talent so that you are never stunned by it.

2.2. Muradin

Muradin Portrait Muradin's massive Health pool makes him hard to kill, whereas his mobility makes him difficult to escape or shed off. He also has access to two very reliable means of interrupting your abilities, which essentially only leaves you with Summon Demon Warrior Icon Summon Demon Warrior to defend yourself. While he is in his Avatar Icon Avatar form, you will not be able to cast anything for as long as he is attacking you.

2.2.1. How To Play Against Muradin

Muradin is widely considered to be Azmodan's hardest counterpick; as such, try and never draft Azmodan into a preceding enemy Muradin pick.

Just as when dealing with Diablo, try and keep your distance from Muradin. Keep track of his important cooldowns — Storm Bolt Icon Storm Bolt and Dwarf Toss Icon Dwarf Toss — so that you know when it is safe to engage. While Muradin is in his Avatar Icon Avatar form, the best thing you can do is to simply try and kite him, without casting anything but your summoning abilities, for Avatar's microstuns will readily interrupt everything else. One positive aspect of this matchup is that Muradin lacks the damage potential to threaten your life. If you are wasting his time, you are essentially turning team fights into 4v4 situations, which is not a bad outcome if you have already dealt your damage through a long-range Globe Of Annihilation Icon Globe Of Annihilation.

2.3. The Butcher

The Butcher Portrait The Butcher is one of the only Heroes that can tank through All Shall Burn Icon All Shall Burn while simultaneously killing Azmodan, thanks to his Butcher's Brand Icon Butcher's Brand ability and extremely high sustained damage. Hamstring Icon Hamstring also prevents you from escaping him, just as can his Ruthless Onslaught Icon Ruthless Onslaught, if the former had not already been used to interrupt one of your abilities.

2.3.1. How To Play Against The Butcher

The biggest mistake that players make when fighting The Butcher is to try and duel him, especially when his Butcher's Brand Icon Butcher's Brand is active. If you see an orange chain effect on your Hero, run to your teammates so that they may try to peel him off of you. If The Butcher has used his Brand and Ruthless Onslaught Icon Ruthless Onslaught abilities, it becomes possible for you to take him down if you have acquired the Imposing Presence Icon Imposing Presence talent. You should also strongly consider the Fifth Circle Icon Fifth Circle talent as well to truly hinder his attack speed.
