General Information

On this page, we explain what the best statistics are for Beast Mastery Hunters in World of Warcraft Legion 7.1, how the class benefits from each of them.

The statistics priority is important as it influences itemisation choices (gear, enchants, and gems).

The other pages of our Beast Mastery Hunter guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.

About Our Author

This guide has been written by Azortharion, the main theorycrafter of the spec. He is also an accomplished player who raids in Vanguard. You can also watch his stream on Twitch.

1. Basics

The stat priority for a Beast Mastery Hunter is:

  1. Agility;
  2. Mastery;
  3. Haste;
  4. Critical Strike;
  5. Versatility.

These statistics have been obtained by combining common sense, in-game testing, and simulations using Simulation Craft.

2. Getting a Better Understanding

2.1. Choosing Gear

Pawn is an add-on that calculates the value of items based on the stat weights you input for your character. We recommend this Pawn string, maintained by Azortharion, which has all the up to date stat weights needed.

This is considered the most convenient way of choosing gear, and it will choose the correct piece of gear 98% of the time. If you want to be 100% sure that you are making the right gear choice (especially when talking extremely small differences), using SimCraft with its corresponding Addon to make gear choices will always be slightly better. A simple guide to using SimCraft can be found here. You can use this for trinkets as well.

2.2. Stat Softcaps, Distributions & Other Clarifications

There are currently no stat soft or hard caps worth chasing for any stat right now. Unless anything else is noted, your gearing goal should involve getting as much of the best stat as possible, followed by the rest and so on. This stat priority and the stat weights in the Pawn string are designed to cover as many different gearsets as possible, and they are usually based around a reasonable, mid-tier raiding setup to be relevant for as many players as possible. While it is possible to use SimulationCraft to generate your own stat weights, this is recommended only for very advanced users, because the weights that SimulationCraft give you are not necessarily to be taken at face value.

There is not a specific distribution of stats that you should try and chase after, either. The recommended way to go about gearing your character is to use the Pawn string's stat weights mentioned earlier, and following what it tells you while ensuring that your Pawn addon is always up to date.

2.3. Statistics Explanations

Agility is your primary statistic. It provides you with Attack Power, which determines the damage your abilities do across the board.

Mastery, through Mastery: Master of Beasts Icon Mastery: Master of Beasts, increases the damage done by your pets, Dire Beasts, Stampede Icon Stampede and A Murder of Crows Icon A Murder of Crows

Haste increases your attack speed and Focus regeneration, reduces your Global Cooldown from 1.5 seconds to a minimum of 0.750 seconds, and reduces the cooldown on your Kill Command Icon Kill Command, Dire Beast Icon Dire Beast, Dire Frenzy Icon Dire Frenzy, and Chimaera Shot Icon Chimaera Shot abilities.

Critical Strike increases your chance to critically hit with all spells and abilities.

Versatility increases all your damage and healing done, and decreases all damage taken.
