General Information

On this page, we explain what the best statistics are for Beast Mastery Hunters in World of Warcraft Legion 7.2, how the class benefits from each of them.

The statistics priority is important as it influences itemisation choices (gear, enchants, and gems).

The other pages of our Beast Mastery Hunter guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.

About Our Author

This guide has been written by Azortharion, the main theorycrafter of the spec. He is also an accomplished player who raids in Vanguard. You can also watch his stream on Twitch.

1. Basics

The stat priority for a Beast Mastery Hunter is:

  1. Mastery;
  2. Haste;
  3. Critical Strike;
  4. Versatility.

These statistics have been obtained by combining common sense, in-game testing, and simulations using Simulation Craft.

2. Getting a Better Understanding

2.1. Choosing Gear

Pawn is an add-on that calculates the value of items based on the stat weights you input for your character. Below you will find importable Pawn strings that you can and should use with the addon, unless you have used SimulationCraft to generate Pawn strings that are specific to your character, which is always the better option.

Marksmanship - "Meme" Build

( Pawn: v1: "Azor-Marksmanship-Memebuild": Agility=20.05, Ap=19.36, CritRating=18.29, HasteRating=15.29, MasteryRating=22.33, Versatility=17.17, Dps=50.03 )

Marksmanship - Standard Trick Shot Build

( Pawn: v1: "Marksmanship": Agility=13.66, Ap=12.98, CritRating=14.65, HasteRating=13.74, MasteryRating=15.67, Versatility=13.04, Dps=43.57 )

Beast Mastery

( Pawn: v1: "Beast Mastery": Agility=16.89, Ap=16.16, CritRating=11.79, HasteRating=13.23, MasteryRating=15.10, Versatility=11.31, Dps=7.01 )

Survival

( Pawn: v1: "Survival": Agility=19.15, Ap=17.98, CritRating=13.20, HasteRating=18.37, MasteryRating=12.68, Versatility=14.13, Dps=21.92 )

2.2. Stat Softcaps, Distributions & Other Clarifications

There are currently no stat soft or hard caps worth chasing for any stat right now. Unless anything else is noted, your gearing goal should involve getting as much of the best stat as possible, followed by the rest and so on. This stat priority and the stat weights in the Pawn string are designed to cover as many different gearsets as possible, and they are usually based around a reasonable, mid-tier raiding setup to be relevant for as many players as possible. While it is possible to use SimulationCraft to generate your own stat weights, this is recommended only for very advanced users, because the weights that SimulationCraft give you are not necessarily to be taken at face value.

There is not a specific distribution of stats that you should try and chase after, either. The best way to decide on gear is to use SimulationCraft to determine your own stat weights and Pawn string whenever you get an upgrade, this is especially important as certain legendaries can have a pronounced effect on your stat weights. The second-best way is to use the more generic Pawn string found in these guides. These are good for general usage, but obviously not tailored for your character.

2.3. Beast Mastery with The Mantle of Command

It is worth noting that with The Mantle of Command Icon The Mantle of Command legendary, Crit becomes a much, much better stat for Beast Mastery, often rivaling Mastery. The specifics of this relationship of stats is very dependent on your current gear, so we do not offer any generic stat weights for this situation. We strongly urge you to become familiar with SimulationCraft for this (but also many other) stat-related purposes, to figure out the best way to gear your specific character.

2.4. Statistics Explanations

Agility is your primary statistic. It provides you with Attack Power, which determines the damage your abilities do across the board.

Mastery, through Mastery: Master of Beasts Icon Mastery: Master of Beasts, increases the damage done by your pets, Dire Beasts, Stampede Icon Stampede and A Murder of Crows Icon A Murder of Crows

Haste increases your attack speed and Focus regeneration, reduces your Global Cooldown from 1.5 seconds to a minimum of 0.750 seconds, and reduces the cooldown on your Kill Command Icon Kill Command, Dire Beast Icon Dire Beast, Dire Frenzy Icon Dire Frenzy, and Chimaera Shot Icon Chimaera Shot abilities.

Critical Strike increases your chance to critically hit with all spells and abilities, causing them to deal double damage. For Beast Mastery in particular, Crit increases the frequency of Wild Call Icon Wild Call procs, which gives auto-shot critical strikes a 20% chance to reset the cooldown of Dire Beast Icon Dire Beast.

Versatility increases all your damage and healing done, and decreases all damage taken.
