Brawler's Guild: Yikkan Izu (Rank 6) (MoP 5.4)

Yikkan Izu is your first Brawler's Guild Rank 6 opponent. The fight against him will require you to quickly dispose of adds he spawns. Classes with weak AoE abilities are at a clear disadvantage here. Before we delve further into the explanations, we advise you to first watch this very short video, which shows how the fight with Yikkan Izu goes.

1. Abilities and Strategy↑top

Yikkan Izu has only one ability called Disorienting Shriek Icon Disorienting Shriek, which you need to interrupt, as it disorients your character for a few seconds.

Other than that, Yikkan Izu will summon 4 ravens every 8 seconds. They have 40k health points and you need to kill them before he summons new ravens. Together they deal a lot of damage, but, more importantly, if you kill more than 4 ravens at the same time, Yikkan Izu enrages and deals increased damage for a few seconds. The more extra ravens you kill, the more extra damage Yikkan will do (if you kill 10 ravens at the same time, he will enrage more than if you kill only 5).

Therefore, your main priority during this fight is to focus on the ravens and kill them as soon as they appear. Yikkan has 3.3M health points, so you should be able to beat the enrage timer easily, even if you spend time killing the ravens.

2. Generic Advice↑top

  • Do not panic. It does not matter if you mess up your rotation, but you need to stick to the strategy.
  • If you are in for a long Brawler's Guild session, you may want to use a flask.
  • Prepot! Use a Potion of Brawler's Might Icon Potion of Brawler's Might, a Potion of Brawler's Cunning Icon Potion of Brawler's Cunning, or a Potion of Brawler's Deftness Icon Potion of Brawler's Deftness right before Yikkan Izu appears, depending on what your main statistic is.
  • When the 60-second cooldown on your potion is over, you can use the same potion again or you can use a Brawler's Healing Potion Icon Brawler's Healing Potion if you need healing.
  • Group up with other players so that you benefit from each other's buffs.

4. Classes We Did The Fight With↑top

4.1. Mage

To deal with Yikkan Izu, we advise you to make use of the following Mage-specific abilities/talents/glyphs.

  • If you play Fire, you may want to use Scorch Icon Scorch as your Tier 1 talent. You will be able to use it while moving and it can proc Heating Up Icon Heating Up or transform it into Pyroblast! Icon Pyroblast!.
  • Use Ice Barrier Icon Ice Barrier as your Tier 2 talents and always keep it up. Remember that Ice Barrier has a 1-minute duration, but only a 25-second cooldown. So, try to cast it before being teleported into the arena. This way, the cooldown will be over by the time Ice Barrier drops from the damage you take, and you will be able to recast it immediately.
  • Use Frostjaw Icon Frostjaw as your Tier 3 talent. You will be able to use it, in conjunction with Frost Nova Icon Frost Nova (and Freeze Icon Freeze from your Water Elemental, if you play Frost), to keep Yikkan Izu rooted, allowing you to get away and heal yourself with Evocation Icon Evocation.
  • Use Cauterize Icon Cauterize as your Tier 4 talent. This will save your life on many occasions. As soon as it procs, use Ice Block Icon Ice Block to remove the DoT effect it leaves on you. If you are using Glyph of Ice Block Icon Glyph of Ice Block, removing Ice Block will cast an instant free Frost Nova Icon Frost Nova and render you immune to spells for 3 seconds, which can be extremely useful.
  • Frost Bomb Icon Frost Bomb plays an important role and you should take it as a Tier 5 talent.
  • Use Invocation Icon Invocation as your Tier 6 talent, in conjunction with Glyph of Evocation Icon Glyph of Evocation. This will enable you to heal yourself for 40% of your life, on a 10-second cooldown.
  • In addition to Glyph of Evocation Icon Glyph of Evocation, which is nigh-mandatory, and Glyph of Ice Block Icon Glyph of Ice Block, which we have already mentioned, you may find the glyphs listed below useful.
    • If you play Arcane, then Glyph of Arcane Power Icon Glyph of Arcane Power can be very useful for your initial burn phase (in conjunction with your trinkets procs/uses and your potion).
    • If you play Fire, then Glyph of Combustion Icon Glyph of Combustion can be very useful for your initial burn phase (in conjunction with your trinkets procs/uses and your potion).
    • Glyph of Frost Nova Icon Glyph of Frost Nova reduces the cooldown of Frost Nova Icon Frost Nova, which can be very beneficial if you often find yourself in need of healing and need to root your opponent to cast Evocation Icon Evocation.
    • If you play Arcane, then Glyph of Slow Icon Glyph of Slow will cause the boss to be almost always slowed, giving you previous seconds to cast Evocation Icon Evocation or damage your opponent without getting hit.
    • If you play Frost, then Glyph of Water Elemental Icon Glyph of Water Elemental will be very beneficial because it will allow your Water Elemental to cast while moving.

To defeat Yikkan Izu, simply make sure to time your casts of Frost Bomb Icon Frost Bomb in such a way that it detonates just as the ravens are spawning. It will instantly kill them. If Frost Bomb is on cooldown and the ravens have just spawned, then you need to spam Arcane Explosion Icon Arcane Explosion.

If you make a mistake and Yikkan Izu enrages, you can use Mirror Image Icon Mirror Image to soak the damage. This will also give you time to clear the remaining ravens.

To interrupt Disorienting Shriek Icon Disorienting Shriek, we advise you to use the following macro, which will enable you to use Frostjaw Icon Frostjaw when Counterspell Icon Counterspell is on cooldown.

  • /cast Counterspell
  • /cast Frostjaw

4.2. Rogue

To deal with Yikkan Izu, we advise you to make use of the following Rogue-specific abilities/talents/glyphs.

For this fight, we heavily recommend using Combat. Blade Flurry Icon Blade Flurry will dispose of the ravens automatically, allowing you to focus on Yikkan Izu all the time. The ravens will still live for a short amount of time, so make sure to use Evasion Icon Evasion and Combat Readiness Icon Combat Readiness to mitigate the damage from their melee attacks.

Remember to also interrupt Disorienting Shriek Icon Disorienting Shriek.

4.3. Shaman

To deal with Yikkan Izu, we advise you to make use of the following Shaman-specific abilities/talents/glyphs.

  • Use Astral Shift Icon Astral Shift as your Tier 1 talent. It will enable you to sometimes reduce the damage you take. Enhancement Shamans can also use Shamanistic Rage Icon Shamanistic Rage for the same purpose.
  • If you play Elemental, you should use Frozen Power Icon Frozen Power as your Tier 2 talent. This way, you will be able to more easily keep Yikkan Izu at bay.
  • Use Elemental Mastery Icon Elemental Mastery as your Tier 4 talent. Cast it at the beginning of the fight to increase your initial burst damage.
  • Use Ancestral Guidance Icon Ancestral Guidance as your Tier 5 talent. Cast it whenever you are in need of healing.
  • Use Primal Elementalist Icon Primal Elementalist as your Tier 6 talent to further increase your initial damage burst.
  • If you play Elemental, you may find the glyphs below to be useful.
  • If you play Enhancement, you may find the glyphs below to be useful.

For both Elemental and Enhancement Shamans, the fight will require you to use Chain Lightning Icon Chain Lightning on Yikkan Izu as soon as the ravens spawn. Doing so will allow you to rapidly dispose of them and limit the amount of damage that they will deal to you. Make sure to also interrupt Disorienting Shriek Icon Disorienting Shriek.

Enhancement Shamans can also use Fire Nova Icon Fire Nova to kill the adds, once Lava Lash Icon Lava Lash has spread Flame Shock Icon Flame Shock.

4.4. Warlock

To deal with Yikkan Izu, we advise you to make use of the following Warlock-specific abilities/talents/glyphs.

  • For self-healing and survival purposes, you should use Soul Leech Icon Soul Leech as your Tier 2 talent and Glyph of Siphon Life Icon Glyph of Siphon Life. Soul Leech will cause your main spells to give you large shields for a fraction of the damage they deal, while Glyph of Siphon Life will cause Corruption Icon Corruption (Affliction/Demonology) or Immolate Icon Immolate (Destruction) to heal you for a percentage of the damage it deals.
  • Use Howl of Terror Icon Howl of Terror as your Tier 2 talent. It will come handy towards the end of the fight.
  • Dark Bargain Icon Dark Bargain is an extremely useful ability and your best option for your Tier 4 talent. Always try to use it at the end of the fight, if you need a few extra seconds to kill your opponent. Note that when Dark Bargain runs out, you will often die from the damage that it has prevented you from taking.
  • You pet will not be very useful as it will most likely die rapidly. As a result, Grimoire of Sacrifice Icon Grimoire of Sacrifice is advised as a Tier 5 talent.
  • Kil'jaeden's Cunning Icon Kil'jaeden's Cunning will prove invaluable as a Tier 6 talent, as it allows you to use all your spells while moving.
  • In addition to Glyph of Siphon Life Icon Glyph of Siphon Life, which is mandatory, you may find the glyphs listed below useful.
    • Glyph of Healthstone Icon Glyph of Healthstone increases the healing from your Healthstone, but this increased healing is done over 10 seconds. You should try to use your improved Healthstone when you have taken about 30% of your health as damage. This will help you make the fight last longer, giving you more time to kill your opponent.
    • Glyph of Demon Training Icon Glyph of Demon Training will be useful to allow your Voidlord to survive longer against Yikkan Izu and the ravens.

While Warlock have very good AoE capabilities, they need some time to set it up. Unfortunately, the ravens will not give you that time. What we advise you to do is to cast Seed of Corruption Icon Seed of Corruption on Yikkan Izu as soon as the adds appear. Then start channeling Rain of Fire Icon Rain of Fire on the ravens. A few seconds later, your DoTs on Yikkan Izu will detonate the seed and this should kill the ravens.

Other than that, You will need to interrupt Disorienting Shriek Icon Disorienting Shriek, so you need to use Grimoire of Sacrifice Icon Grimoire of Sacrifice, in order to be given the Spell Lock Icon Spell Lock ability of your Felhunter. Because of the cooldown of Spell Lock, you will probably need to also use Mortal Coil Icon Mortal Coil. So, we advise you to use the following macro.

  • /cast Spell Lock
  • /cast Mortal Coil

If you make a mistake, remember to use Dark Bargain Icon Dark Bargain while Yikkan Izu is enraged.
