Best in Slot Gear Guide for Marksmanship Hunter

Welcome to our Gear and BiS Page for Marksmanship Hunter for Midnight Pre-Season. Check this page to learn everything you need to know about gearing a Marksmanship Hunter, including the BiS Gear from all sources, Raiding, and Mythic+, information on the best Trinkets, Tier Sets, and much more.

The Midnight Expansion brought a major stat squish, reducing the stats and numbers of virtually everything in the game, including Item Levels and the stats on gear.

You can find more information about Gearing and much more in Midnight on our Midnight page.

Mythic+ Trinket Tier List for Marksmanship Hunter

Mythic+ Trinkets prefer stat-granting trinkets over damage-dealing ones, as nearly all damage-dealing Trinkets split their damage when hitting multiple targets, eliminating their AoE scaling. In rare cases, they will have "increased damage per target hit", but that is only +15% per target, and also scales poorly on AoE. So, we lower the Tier of all damage-dealing Trinkets by 1 tier.

"Simming" Yourself as a Marksmanship Hunter

Throughout this page, we regularly refer to the importance of simming yourself on Raidbots, as it is an indispensable aspect of optimizing your character.

If you are new to simming and Raidbots, check out our detailed guide below.

Best Crafted Items for Marksmanship Hunter

Note that simulations for Embellishments are in their early stages, and this information only reflects the current state of those simulations. It is likely that this recommendation will change slightly or entirely by the time Season 1 rolls around, so check back on this page before you are about to craft. Do not use Sparks to craft anything at all until March 17th at the absolute earliest.

4.1.

Early Game Best Crafts for Marksmanship Hunter

Early in the Season, your Sparks are a limiting factor in what you are able to Craft. With the release of Heroic Raids, you will have the Sparks to craft either 2 normal pieces, or 1 weapon.

Long story short, I recommend pursuing the World Tender's setup early on. A lot of specs will craft a Weapon here instead. Simulations suggest that the Weapon is ~+3.3%, while World Tender's 2-set is ~+3.1% compared to 276 iLvl Heroic items. However, the very first boss of the Raid, Imperator Averzian, drops a weapon. The high risk of a weapon dropping and invalidating a Weapon Craft does not justify a 0.2% DPS increase, in my opinion.

4.2.

Endgame Best Crafts for Marksmanship Hunter

Our best Craft/Embellishment is the Root Warden's Regalia Icon Root Warden's Regalia Crafted Item Set Bonus, which requires 2 out of:

  • Chest: World Tender's Trunkplate Icon World Tender's Trunkplate
  • Boots: World Tender's Rootslippers Icon World Tender's Rootslippers
  • Belt: World Tender's Barkclasp Icon World Tender's Barkclasp

At end-game, the Boots and Belt are optimal as they are less of an Agility loss to take the 4 iLvl Crafted hit on.

However, it is worth noting that crafting 2 pieces with Arcanoweave Lining Icon Arcanoweave Lining is almost as good, just ~0.3% behind, and basically equal once you account for Arcanoweave Lining buffing an ally for 20% of its effect as well, while giving you a ton of flexibility on the slots you put these Embellishments on. With that said, the rest of the guide is going to assume you are going for World Tender's — BiS is BiS, after all.

4.3.

Best Crafting Order for Marksmanship Hunter

  1. World Tender's Rootslippers Icon World Tender's Rootslippers or World Tender's Barkclasp Icon World Tender's Barkclasp — In practice, I think you should craft whichever slot your current item is worse iLvl in. If they are equal, I recommend the Belt for two reasons: One, it gives you a piece that you can socket from your Vault and know that you will never replace, in case your next Vault sucks. Two, the very first boss in the Voidspire Raid drops a pair of Boots.
  2. Whichever World Tender's Item you did not craft above.
  3. Craft for Item Level thereafter, following the slot priority of Weapon > Neck/Rings/Shoulder > Cloak/Wrist. Other slots are typically not crafted as they are occupied by Tier or other uniquely good pieces.

You should ideally sim the optimal stats to craft for your particular character, but Crit/Mastery is most likely your best option with a Thalassian Missive of the Peerless Icon Thalassian Missive of the Peerless.

You do not need to have a Professions to get gear crafted for you, that is what Crafting Order NPC's are for, but if you are interested in crafting for yourself and saving some Gold, check out our Professions Overview page:

Best Gear Crest Upgrades for Marksmanship Hunter

You will be able to upgrade your items via Crests such as Gilded Ethereal Crest Icon Gilded Ethereal Crest. Once you have upgraded a slot to a certain item level, upgrading other items of that slot to that item level is free.

When you upgrade with Crests, you should think of it as upgrading slots and not items.

Additionally, since Crests are a limited resource, you will want to obtain the highest item-level possible before upgrading a given slot, as this means you will spend fewer Crests on that slot in total. If you are at all capable of doing a +10 Dungeon (701 iLvl), for example, it would be a VERY bad idea to upgrade an item from a +9 Dungeon (697), because you just wasted 15 Crests that could have been saved by just farming the slot on a +10.

We see a ton of players, even at a high level, mess up their upgrade priorities, and upgrading prematurely. Getting this right will put you far ahead of most players.

Below is the slot priority you should upgrade your items in. If you ever want to deviate from this, you should have a very good reason.

  1. Weapons
  2. Trinkets
  3. Helm/Chest/Legs
  4. Rings and Necks
  5. Shoulders/Gloves/Belt/Boots
  6. Cloaks and Bracers

Note that exceptions are possible, such as special items that have more Item Level scaling than their slot would imply.

You can learn more about the Gear Upgrade System in our Gear Upgrade System page.
