On the 25th of July, 2026, at EU Fan Festival held in Berlin, Germany, game director Naoki Yoshida unveiled the new tank job coming to FFXIV in Evercold. He entered the stage dressed in a cosplay of a heavily armored figure carrying two large shields. After the extended Evercold teaser trailer, Yoshida revealed that his cosplay was indeed of the new tank job, which is being called Bastion.

Bastion Lore

"Located in the vast expanse of the Northern Empty, Aerslaent has long been protected by indomitable Bastions, heritors of the ancient martial techniques developed over generations by the archipelago's rulers. It is said that no raider's axe can penetrate a Bastion's hulking Skyltborg, and that one would be foolish to try. For these shape-changing greatshields' aetherial artillery has brought a swift end to many a marauder, be it from near or far. Of course, the Skyltborg also offer protection for its wielder and their allies in the form of defensive and curative boons."

Bastion Overview

Bastion is one of the two new jobs coming to FFXIV in the Evercold expansion, releasing in January 2027. It features a heavily armored warrior wielding two greatshields with artillery on one end and melee weapons on the other. These unique weapons are called Skyltborgs and are used to alternate between melee and ranged combat.

Bastion Overview

Bastion will be designated as a Main Tank in Evercold's new Tank classification of Main of Off Tank. Unlike other jobs which will have both the new Reborn and Evolved modes for combat actions, Bastion will only have the Evolved mode. This will also be true of the yet-to-be-revealed DPS job also coming with the Evercold expansion. Bastion will start at level 90, and the job unlock quest will be in Limsa Lominsa.

While we do not know much about Bastion's playstyle, Yoshida explains that the job will be able to swap between "high-speed melee combos and long-ranged attacks." Furthermore, Bastion will be able to extend its defensive capabilities to its party members by targeting them with specific healing and defensive spells.

That's all the information we currently have about the new tank coming to FFXIV in Evercold in January 2027. This page will be updated with new information when it arises. Until then, you can watch the teaser trailer for Bastion that was shown during the keynote below.
