Changes to FFXIV in Patch 8.0

Fighting Off Fatigue Evercold FFXIV

Evercold promises to completely change the landscape of FFXIV, including sweeping changes to combat, progression, and how jobs work. As per the developers, these changes aim to create a system that players will enjoy for many years to come. The main theme behind all these changes is an ever-evolving game that takes the FFXIV experience to the next level and beyond. Of course, Evercold will also have new trials, dungeons, raids, and story that players know and love.

3.

Evercold Job Changes

Reborn vs. Evolved Evercold FFXIV

Evercold is introducing new ways to play every job. There will be two modes of job skills: Reborn and Evolved. Reborn Mode aims to keep jobs very similar to how they are now, and will continue to receive further updates in the current expansion and beyond. Evolved Mode is a new mode that decreases the amount of total buttons but completely overhauls the job actions to be more action-based, similar to job actions in PvP.

4.

Evercold Combat Update

No More 2 Minute Meta Evercold FFXIV

Evercold aims to change the flow of combat in FFXIV. Current combat design is greatly dependent on party members using their party buffs at the same time, highly increasing damage dealt to the boss. Both jobs and encounters were designed around this principle, making designing both very restrictive. With the changes to jobs, the development team will also change design in general to decrease repetition and create new types of fights.

The three major updates are focused on removing synergy actions, adjusting action acquisition levels, and defining main and off tank roles.

5.

Evercold Progression Updates

Adventurer Activity Evercold FFXIV

FFXIV has changed greatly since it was released in 2013. While the developers have stuck to the same formula for expansions and content releases for 13 years, the landscape of gaming has greatly changed over time. Players have been capping their tomestones every week for over a decade and the developers have acknowledged the current formula is both stale and inflexible. In Evercold, the game is moving to a weekly-based system similar to a battle pass that other MMOs use. Players will now complete weekly tasks to earn activity points every week.

While we do not know exactly what the two new jobs will be and how they will play, it was revealed that the jobs will be a Main Tank and a Physical Ranged DPS. Both jobs are original to FFXIV. The tradition is that new jobs are teased through the shirt Yoshi-P is wearing during the keynote. Who knows what his shirt is hinting at?
