The official Twitch support site has been updated and their social media accounts have been actively reaching out to users to notify streamers that unauthorized access to Twitch user information may have occurred. All users have had their passwords and stream keys expired, as well as been disconnected from social media (Twitter and YouTube) accounts.

The post goes on to indicate that Twitch will communicate directly with 'affected users' with additional details. However, as with any issue where a security breach on a major site occurs, security experts (and most commentators online) will strongly recommend resetting all of your Twitch details, the details of your linked accounts, and any accounts or details online that used similar usernames/passwords/etc.

Twitch's original announcement is available online, including their edits regarding password security requirements.

VentureBeat also got a copy of the e-mail that was sent to affected users, which you can see here. The relevant text follows:

We are writing to let you know that there may have been unauthorized access to some of your Twitch user account information, including possibly your Twitch username and associated email address, your password, the last IP address you logged in from, limited credit card information (card type, truncated card number and expiration date), and any of the following if you provided it to us: first and last name, phone number, address, and date of birth.

PLEASE NOTE: Twitch does not store or process full credit or debit card information, so your card number is safe.

While we store passwords in a cryptographically protected form, we believe it’s possible that your password could have been captured in clear text by malicious code when you logged into our site on March 3rd.

As many Blizzard gamers utilize Twitch streaming services, we recommend you update your Twitch account as soon as possible.

Was wondering why I had been asked to reset my password.

I noticed when resetting my password the criteria for a "strong password" was pretty high.  All my "normal" passwords were so-called "weak"

Could you be the next writer to join the team?
We are currently looking for a new writer to join our team and fill the role of an Overwatch guide writer. Check out the requirements and how to apply here!
      Hello everyone!
We are delighted to announce that we are looking for some fresh blood to enter our growing team behind the scenes of Icy Veins. We are looking to revamp and update our Overwatch section with the aid of a well-experienced flex player. Your role as a guide writer will be to use your extensive knowledge of in-game mechanics and the current competitive meta to efficiently detail strategies on how to play each hero.
This will be a paid position. The nature of payment will evolve as the section of the site does, with remuneration starting in the form of shared revenues based on revenues from the guides you will be writing.
In order to be considered for the position, you will need to meet the following requirements:
You should have a strong grasp of the current meta in Overwatch at all levels of play, ranging from Bronze to Grand Master. You will be writing to help players of all skill levels, so it is important to understand what is needed of a player at different skill rating brackets. You should be confident in your ability to perform in every role in Overwatch, capable of playing any hero at your current skill rating bracket. Ideally, you should be currently ranked in Grand Master, with similar final skill ratings in previous seasons. You should have a strong mastery of written English, since you will be writing guides in English. You should be confident in your passion for Overwatch, since we will expect you to stay up-to-date on any meta shifts and changes by playing regularly. To apply for the position, simply send us an e-mail at jobs@icy-veins.com. The deadline for applications is the 4th December, 2017, at 23:59 CET, which is 3 weeks from the time of publication. After the deadline, we will start to respond to candidates and organise interviews for the best applicants. You will not hear back from us before the deadline.
Good luck everyone and we look forward to reading your applications!
