first time ever on WoW, and need a few questions answered

Hey guys so this is the first time ive ever played the game, downloaded all thats necessary. here goes:

 

is it possible for a character chosen for normal mode, to be moved to PVP?

where can i find raids and boss fights?

can i switch gear between characters?

at what lvl can i get a mount? where?

whats this rolling restart thing it keeps showing me for the 29th? is it like ladder reset in d2/3?

does anyone want to add me to their team/clan/guild so i can get the hang of this game?

is there a trading feature in game/out game?

Heyas, Oracle, and welcome to the game.

 

1. All your characters are eligible for all kind of realms PvE / PvP / RP. But to move a toon between realms or factions (Aliance / Horde) will cost you Transfer money. If you don't like to be PvP disturbed while leveling, don't chose PvP realm.

You can see a list of realms by Type, Population, Faction ratio and PvE raid progress on Wowprogress. I chose EU-Eng realms in the link but you can check US and other language realms there too.

 

2. Raids and Outdoor Bosses are designed for end-game, so you will have to level to 100 and gear up a bit to start raiding.

The easiest 'tourist' level of raiding is LFR - in-game tool that builds automatically 25-man raid group. For higher level raiding (Normal, Heroic, Mythic) you will have to join manually created groups but frankly, raiding is mostly done with a guild.

 

You can join 5-man dungeons with boss fights from level 15 and the game will walk you through this possibility - you wouldn't miss it.

 

3. The simple answer - no, you can't switch regular gear between characters. The more complicated answer - there are some kinds of Heirloom and BoA (Bind on Account) gear that can be transferred between characters but it's used almost exclusively for leveling alts and you wouldn't be able to reach it on the brand new toon.

 

4. You can get your first ground mount on level 20. When reaching lvl 20 you will receive a quest that will walk you through the process. You will get a possibility to obtain next (faster) ground mount on level 40 and will unlock flying on level 60 (not in all areas). All flying skills and mounts cost money - first ones are very cheap.

 

5. Rolling restarts is a once per week realms technical maintenance mostly for 15 min. Sometimes it's extended to 4-6 hours if there's a patch to apply, etc. It's Tuesday for US and Wednesday for EU.

 

6. Clans in WoW are called Guilds. When you start to play, you'll be spammed in game with automatic invites to join some random guilds - do not accept this.

You can look for a normal guild on IV forum, on official forum, on mmo-champion, etc...

You didn't mention where you are playing - EU or US - so I can't point you to the exact place.

For example, this is the Guild thread of my server (EU-Argent Dawn) on the official WoW forum. You can read about different guilds there and check their sites. Most of established long time guilds have their own site. This is of my guild for example: Immortalis.

 

7. The trading feature in game is Auction House. You can find it in every capital city and they are all linked.

Welcome to the game,

 

If you simply want to do some World PvP on a normal realm, simply enable PvP.

To enable PvP: Right click on your portrait (health bar), go to Player vs Player, and select Enabled.

Note that you cannot attack players that are not PvP enabled, but they can attack you. The moment they do attack you, they are automatically PvP enabled. If everyone is too scared, you can transfer to a PvP Realm as Pandacho suggested.

 

You can also enter Battlegrounds or Arenas, in which all players are automatically PvP enabled.

 

The Group Finder (Default hotkey "I"), small green eye button on your menu bar. This allows you to queue up for either PvE or PvP content.

 

Only certain equipment can be shared if they haven't been equipped yet. This is called "Bind on Equip" which will be displayed in the tooltip, for example Braided Copper Ring

Stronger equipment cannot be traded. When looting/viewing these equipment they will say "Bind on Pickup". Bounty Hunter's Ring.

When a item cannot be traded it simply says "Soulbound" in the tooltip.
