Blizzard have announced the World Championship Tour for 2016 and it's going to be huge, with $1 million in prize money for the main event and another $900,000 available along the way.

It will follow a refined version of last year's format, with the key change being that there will be three separate three month seasons, with one player from each of the four regions qualifying at the end of each season. Those seasons will have an 8 player championship event for each region with a $100,000 prize pool, which should keep interest levels high throughout the year. As with last year, there will also be a last call event close to the World Championships itself.

Points will be earned for any Legend finish, with high weighting for top 100 finishes. Inside the top 100, the scaling is much less top heavy than previously. Points can also be earned for high placing in Hearthstone cups, which now qualify much more easily as approved events. The top 128 points earners from each region will advance to the qualification stage for the Season Championships.

Blizzard have addressed issues with the invite system favouring big name players, and although tournament organisers can still reserve a place for invited players, those players must start in the same round as everyone else in the event.

All in all, the system seems to be designed to reward consistently high levels of play and has taken on board feedback from last year.
