Hearthstone Tavern Brawl: Lead From The Front

This week's Tavern Brawl uses a simple but effective mechanic: heroes have Taunt. Players also start with ten armor each. It is a Brawl where you must make a deck from your own collection.

The idea of "face has Taunt" has been a Twitch meme for aggro players for a long time, and now we get to play with that as a rule, rather than just an amusing concept. In this Brawl, you are not able to trade minions, so if you want to control the board you will have to play removal spells. Of course, you can also just try to race your opponent to dealing forty damage.


Even though the idea is simple, it will lead to quite a lot of decisions for deckbuilders. Removal will be important, as will utility minions. It will be interesting to see where the balance ends up when players have tinkered with it for a few days.

You have to be rolling deep in the Removal category, since any enemy minion without Taunt can't be attacked. Other than that, I noticed that games go SUPER quick, since aggressive strategies don't have to worry about enemies making trades. Life gain (especially Reno and Healbot) is about the only other way to slow down your own death.
