The Hearthstone Champions League Season 2 was completed this week, and Pavel was the winner of the $5,000 first prize. The format was best of five Conquest.

The league began with sixteen players placed in groups of four, with two from each group qualifying for the single eliminaton knockout stage. The results of each group were as follows:

Group A: StanCifka (2-0), Xixo (2-1), Kolento (1-2). Dog (0-2)
Group B: Pavel (2-0), Ek0p (2-1), Hoej (1-2), RDU (0-2)
Group C: Sjow (2-0), Orange (2-1), Strifecro (1-2), Lifecoach (0-2)
Group D: Thijs (2-0), Ostkaka (2-1), Hanniballz2 (1-2), Tidesoftime (0-2)

In the quarter-finals, Ostkaka beat StanCifka 3-2, Ek0p beat SjoW 3-1, Pavel beat Orange 3-1, and Thijs beat Xixo 3-2.

The semi-finals were both one-sided affairs. Ostkaka beat Ek0p 3-0, despite not getting the best of the matchups. His Zoo deck beat Patron, he then won with Secret Paladin against Zoo and Druid against Patron. In the other match, Pavel swept Thijs' Rogue deck with Zoo, Druid and Freeze Mage to win 3-1. His only loss was with Freeze Mage against Druid.

The final was a close match. In game one Ostaka showed the skills that made him World Champion, by not panicking with his Secret Paladin against Freeze Mage. His timing for removing Pavel's Ice Block, and patience with his Loatheb, gave him a 1-0 lead. He doubled that lead with a win in the Druid mirror, which left him only needing a win with Zoo to secure the title. Pavel was able to keep his focus and levelled the score at 2-2 with wins using Freeze Mage and then his own Zoo. In the final game he pulled off a surprise with Druid against Zoo, which completed the reverse sweep, and gave Pavel his first big tournament title.

Thijs beat Ek0p 3-2 to win the third place playoff match.

Pavel tweeted his winning decklists. I have reproduced those below.

The latest Hearthstone community contribution allows you to train the skills needed to master Combo Priest: quick thinking, fast mouse movements, strategic decisions and on-the-spot calculations. What's more to ask?!
Combo or OTK or APM Priest is a reiteration of Combo and Vivid Nightmare Priest that was born with The Boomsday Project thanks to two cards: Topsy Turvy and Test Subject. Dog is credited as the creator and true master of the deck:
Many have subsequently tried and failed to pilot the deck, which can require almost 100 moves during the 75 seconds of a single turn. Pro players like Trump and Thijs have hilariously failed, while others like Disguised Toast and Kolento kept trying until they got the hang of it.
Right now, you might be dreading that you don't have the IQ to play this deck. Fear no more: everything can be practiced and Patashu has made the tool for it! Combo Priest Simulator allows you to practice the OTK combo on your browser, while also timing you. You can change the parameters of the starting gamestate, too.
In all seriousness, the deck's winrate is below average and it's honestly too much trouble for too little gain. Then again, slamming your opponent's face for 100+ damage is quite satisfactory. It would be awesome if someone was brave enough to bring this deck at a tournament: it would be the casters' nightmare!
Apart from Combo Priest Simulator, we have a guide for Topsy Turvy OTK Priest here on Icy Veins; the guide breaks down the necessary steps of the combo in a useful priority list. Alternatively, you can listen to Aleco trying to explain how the deck works to Patrick (and actually succeeding) in the latest Icy Veins Podcast!
