Blizzard have decided what they want to do regarding Reward set cards when the next set is released. In the FAQ regarding the format changes, they have added a section that explains those cards will only be a part of Wild and not Standard.

At this time, the decision only impacts four cards: Captain's Parrot, Old Murk-Eye, Elite Tauren Chieftain, and Gelbin Mekkatorque. Currently the first two cards are earned through collecting all of the Murlocs or Pirates respectively, and the last two are only craftable.

The FAQ now contains the following question and answer:

Blizzard Icon FAQ

Will Reward set cards such as Gelbin Mekkatorque and Old Murk-Eye be part of Wild or Standard format?

All current Reward set cards, including Promo cards, will be restricted to Wild format.

When Standard format arrives, the Captain’s Parrot and Old Murk-Eye cards won’t be given for collecting their associated classic cards, but can instead be crafted (and disenchanted).

Acquiring the Promo cards Gelbin Mekkatorque and Elite Tauren Chieftain remains unchanged: the normal versions of these cards can still be crafted or disenchanted, while the golden versions were acquired via special events and cannot be disenchanted or crafted. (source)

Currently the only one of the four cards that sees regular play is Old Murk-Eye, which is played in the Anyfin Can Happen combo deck.
