Ok so today the Kilt dropped form me,yay.

So for my 4 piece, since it doesn't say or show in the gear area, should I do Helm or Shoulders to replace the tier spot you have suggested?

What are your current slots there? Will depend on what you're replacing tbh

Currently have Titanforged Chest, Warforged Back and Heroic Gloves, the guide says to get Pants for 4 piece but with Kilt that is not happening so i'm trying to determine what is better for 4 piece Helm or Shoulders.

I am currently wearing is the heroic version of the hood and normal version of the mantle suggested on the list.

Replace the Hood then. The stats on the tier shoulders suck if you've already got the Haste/Vers targets. If you're below 8k Haste, 3k Vers, then I'd replace the shoulders.

We are currently in the process of updating our guides in preparation for the release of 7.2.5 - all questions about "What is better for 7.2.5, X or Y?" will be answered in our guide updates. Thanks for your patience while we get everything completed and good luck in the new patch!

The mage guide has 2 different stat orders. Under easy mode for stats it says to take something completely different from Stat priority.

Which stat priority would one follow?

The official stat priority. Mastery is a lot more forgiving, and all in all the 4 stats are very close in value. For optimum play I would recommend Crit/Vers though.

Thank you. I will have to do a gear change, but I would like to not be a burden to my guild when DPSing.

The easy mode page is just there to make playing your class as easy as possible, removing room for error and so on. It's separate from the rest of the guide in regards to the advice it gives. Just wanted to clear that up :)

Can someone explain me stat priority, please? I see no sense in those which are specified for arcane mages.

Intellect should always be priority. As I see from my simcraft - mastery is very close. Mastery is a secondary stat to look at and it makes sense, because more mana, more mp5, more dmg per charge: longer burst and longer 4-charge dmg. Obviously, haste vers and crit are better for burst due to quicker spell execution, but without mana - how would you survive evocation CD? Focusing on haste and crit/vers - is a short-mode fight. Without the Kilt I see no sense in that build to be honest. I wish someone can explain what am I missing to put me on a right path of true arcane pve dmg.

I saw arcane guy who was focused on haste primarily, his opening was nearly 4 million dps (mine a bit above 1 million). But few moments later he was without mana. Testing this is very lengthy due to gear collection etc :<

Please ignore above what I wrote. I was using simcrafts in a wrong way and only now (after a month of use) found out that. Feel stupid and laugh out from myself a lot.

With a crapload of playtime in Legion Arcane Mage - the above is true but highly dependent on gear choices.

1. Once you get a Kilt, Mastery becomes the worst scaling stat you can get - its super counter intuitive like that. This is also true but to a lesser extent, with the legendary headpiece and to an even lesser extent with the 4 set T19 bonus. Bracers... well they hardly do much to mana conserve anyway and are among the worst legendaries to use.

I used to run (pre-NH) Arcane Mage with 40% and even 45% Mastery, and the very moment I started dropping it, DPS went up, and up...

2. Without Kilt, Mastery only shines on the longest fights, and only situationally (any fight with long pauses like Gul Dan or KJ will automatically reduce the value of Mastery, for example).

3. Crit/Vers/haste always shine regardless of encounter length. The longer conserve, even without Kilt, is easily offset by the much higher damage output even when you can't maintain 4 charges.

For some more insight on stat weights, I have done extensive simming and tinkering with different weights and came up to the following conclusions - this is at ilv 921, 4 set T20

- 8k haste / 3k vers is a good baseline to work from.

- Up to 6k vers pays off well, but only when it is at the expense of Mastery

- Focus on Crit when above 8k haste.

In stat sheet %, this will make you go towards around 31-33% Crit / 6-10% versatility / 20-23% Mastery (lower is better) / 21-27% Haste (higher is better)

Pushing crit further than 33% is only useful if you can keep around 23-25% Haste and over 6% Versatility. Arcane weights, except for Mastery, are very close together with Intel leading the pack.

PS. its a real shame Arcane relies so heavily on Kilt, because now we can't feasibly do 2+4 set even though it would be a godly combo. Yes, I tried, but losing Kilt is too hurtful.

This is very true, with item level usually being the main determining factor for upgrades.

The 2pT19 4pT20 is really only viable if you have Shard and Soul in which its really only useful if you Hero on pull other wise its better to run 2pT19 and 2pT20 with kilt and soul being BiS leggos. The rest of what Vayra said with the stat weights is pretty spot on. Kilt devalues Mastery and Soul devalues Haste. Don't forget to mention that you want to also get Sentinel off of sisters which is a huge increase in dps as well and BiS trinket in ToS followed by Terror from Mistress.

Unfortunately Arcane suffers, as it has all expac long, from being extremely gear dependent especially when it comes to leggos. Thus why fire and frost are more the go to specs at the moment.

Vayra,

This is how you would play with out any mana leggo such as kilt and have the 2pT19, 4pT20 with Shard and Soul Leggos; the point is to play oom. In my discord chat group for Arcane Mages Porom gave a brief description on how it plays:

AP burn, second RoP burn, evo then burn to ~60% mana
ABarr then conserve rotation hard until 2nd MoA then setup another burn

The important thing to remember is without any mana leggo you kind of have to be safer about starting conserve between evo's. Try to setup burns without evo if you can it makes no difference if you spend mana now or later as long as you spend it all before evo cd, the nature of our opening burn kind of favors evo after burn not before.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts on that, still waiting on that Soul to drop for me ^^

I also notice you saying 2pc19+2pc20 - is this always a better combo than 4pc20? So far I do feel 4pc20 offers a bit more, then again, ilevel ofc.

Yes Vayra, you are right your 2pT19  out of that combo does need to be of a high iLvl in order to keep it so if your just a heroic raider that means keep whatever T19 gear is War/Titanforged and go from there. The 2p19+2p20 is good with Kilt and Soul its kinda moot if you dont have those two leggos, I am fortunate to have them...no Shard yet tho :(

If you want you or anyone Arcane wants to join the conversation here is a perma link to the Arcane Dream chat on discord, it has helped me immensely!!!  https://discord.gg/Dt963n8

1.2. Burn Phase

The burn phase commences at the start of the encounter, and whenever Arcane Power Icon Arcane Power is off cooldown thereafter. It is important to ensure you will not be interrupted during the burn phase, so avoid entering this part of the rotating during heavy movement or when volatile mechanics are active.

  1. Ensure you have 4 Arcane Charge Icon Arcane Charges.
  2. Place Rune of Power Icon Rune of Power (if talented).
  3. Activate Arcane Power Icon Arcane Power.
  4. Activate Presence of Mind Icon Presence of Mind.
  5. Cast Arcane Missiles Icon Arcane Missiles whenever available.
  6. Cast Arcane Blast Icon Arcane Blast.

If there is AoE or cleave and you are talented into Resonance Icon Resonance, it is ideal to cast Arcane Barrage Icon Arcane Barrage right at the end of Arcane Power Icon Arcane Power for the increased cleave damage.

If you are talented into Charged Up Icon Charged Up, you can cast Arcane Barrage Icon Arcane Barrage after Arcane Power Icon Arcane Power ends for some extra damage, then used Charged Up Icon Charged Up and continue your burn.

To reiterate, the goal of the burn phase is to maximize damage during Arcane Power Icon Arcane Power. Arcane Power Icon Arcane Power and Evocation Icon Evocation both share a 90-second cooldown, so it is logical to burn all your remaining Mana during this period. Once Arcane Power Icon Arcane Power ends, and you no longer have the Mana to cast Arcane Barrage Icon Arcane Barrage,Arcane Blast Icon Arcane Blast).  you should activate Evocation Icon Evocation and fully channel it to restore your Mana to 100%. After this is done, the conserve phase resumes. You should save your Arcane Missiles Icon Arcane Missiles for after Evocation Icon Evocation if you reach 0 Mana.

I believe it says on the opener section to also cast Arcane Missiles if you are below 100% Mana. Fail to see how this is conflicting information, but I'll update the Burn Phase section to match (3 charges or <100% Mana) just to ensure perfect clarity.

The new War Within Allied Races was added to the Alpha today and we already have a full look at not only all their customization options, but their dances as well, courtesy of MrGM! You can check out the Earthen's racial abilities here if you missed them earlier.
Let's start with the more dynamic feature, with both male and female dances:
And then there's big amount of customization options, as well as a size comparison with regular dwarves:

So, are we liking the new Allied Race overall? More than actual dwarves?

Here's a really cool possibility for the War Within, as a very subtle and mildly mysterious comment from Executive Producer and Vice President for WoW, Holly Longdale, may be hinting at our Warband characters getting a lot more involved in our travels!
First spotted by UlthansWrath, Longdale came up to Taliesin & Evitel at the recent London War Within Alpha press event and had a short chat about the Warband screen, when she casually said "wouldn't it be cool if those were the characters you took as your followers in your Follower Dungeons?" After the obvious confirmation from Taliesin and Evitel that, yes, yes it would be cool, she just said "hm" and that was the end of the conversation.
Obviously this isn't any sort of official confirmation, but considering this is a really awesome idea, it seems likely Blizzard are at the very least discussing it, if not already working on it.

The Warband system is already great, and this would add a lot to it for players that choose to go solo into dungeons, as it would give them even more motivation to get some great characters in their Warband - even if it was just a cosmetic option.
So, what do you think, will we be seeing this feature when the War Within launches?

Affliction is getting plenty of changes today as well, with Blizzard detailing the reasoning behind certain choices.
      Affliction (Source)
      Greetings Warlocks,
Today, we have various Core and Affliction tree changes hitting the Alpha. We want to take a moment to go a bit more in depth as to what certain changes were made and why. As a refresher, here are the goals for our Core and Afflictions that we posted last week along with some additional goals that we can dig into here.
      Class
Ensure each capstone is interesting and exciting. Reduce the amount of throughput talents, to free up utility choices. Reduce the number of ranks for talents that don’t warrant multiple ranks. Affliction
Address the tuning of Malefic Rapture in single-target and multi-target situations. Reduce complexity and the amount of active buttons that contribute to it. Erase the need to choose between a single-target or multi-target profile by adding more adaptability and flexibility. While we cannot go over every change here, we’d like to get a bit more detailed than last week’s update and explain some of the bigger changes coming in this build.
      Class Tree Throughput
We’re removing a lot of throughput talents from the class tree to allow warlocks to pick up more utility without feeling forced to take mandatory talents to be competitive. These talents aren’t compelling options when placed against utility as they will always be the right answer to have. This allows us to move that power into the specialization trees and tailor throughput-centric talents to be specific to that specialization’s gameplay.
      Malefic Rapture
In addition to becoming baseline for Affliction, we are introducing new talents that will help Malefic Rapture become the go-to spender for both single-target and multi-target situations. This should also shift Seed of Corruption to being a means to apply Corruption to multiple targets rather than what you spam in dungeons. In addition, we are redesigning Siphon Life to be friendlier to Affliction’s rotation and expect that its new design will make it easier to optimize Malefic Rapture.
      Affliction’s Adaptability
While we do want Affliction warlocks to have a preferred talent setup for single- versus multi-target situations, we don’t want it to feel like they are powerless if they are in the opposite situation. By focusing on Malefic Rapture being Affliction’s main spender and removing talents that are only valuable in multi-target situations (Soul Flame, Soul Swap, Doom Blossom, etc.), we’re hoping that the Affliction tree feels less punishing to fill out.
      Is This It?
Not at all. We expect to make changes based on feedback and our own playtesting. We want to get the ball rolling on changes we knew we want to make, so we could start the discussion early on and make adjustments before The War Within launches.
Thank you all for the continued discussions and we look forward to your feedback!
And here are the full changes from the development notes:
