@Farion - any thoughts?

Nice concept, but not really needed.

The rotation will most likely change when the new tier becomes available.

@Farion

Yes the rotation will change in just a few weeks:)
I like the idea of getting the rotation so visual, and with a few extra tips/notes on the side aswell. It makes some people getting some extra output. Therefor I would like to se similar "guides" in the future. Guides that shows more than just the general things, and that also aims for 90%+ bracket players. As a result, casual and pro players can both seek information here on icy veins.

I showed that picture to an old fellow ret friend, who actually adapted and got something out of it. Just feels nice to help out other rets.

@Froziro

Well each to their own I suppose but I didn't like that 'visual' block at all. I get a huge amount out of all the guides here, but I don't raid (except when quest sends me to one). Over the years the guides have helped me improve my gameplay by explaining the what and the why for choosing something. I think the guides would become too cluttered with such things in them.

That said, it's always nice to see suggestions for helping others out even if I don't happen to agree with it!

We're always looking for new ways to improve our guides and suggestions coming from our readers is always a great way to find those kind of things. Some of them we'll agree with, some we'll disagree with, but in the end we'll aim to make the best guide that we can, so thank you both for your feedback!

I was reviewing the stats for Paladins and I don't quiet get what "-=" is meant to imply with regard to stat priority.  It looks like it could have been a typo but I'm assuming that it isn't and it just isn't clear to me what you intent is.

Thanks

Hi there! It means approximately equal to, as opposed to directly equal to. The level to which they are "equal" varies depending on the character.

So why does the legendary list not include the belt and now the ring from antorus? Guess they are not relevant. But my question still stands, why they're not on the list?

Bolded.

I suppose they could include it, then just note that unless you have the absolute best in slot relic upgrades, you probably won't get much out of it...

It's essentially a stat stick, like any offspec legendary would be.

As PH says above, there are plenty of legendaries that are not included because they provide barely any DPS benefit other than being a stat piece that can be evaluated for your character through a gear comparison sim. There's nothing we can tell you about their value outside of what a sim tells you, as is the same for any piece of gear.

The belt was never removed from the list, how ever the ring will be added abit later.

A few months ago posters were saying that mastery was the worst stat:

Now we have

  1. Mastery ~= Haste;
  2. Versatility ~= Critical Strike = Strength.

The symbol '~' means "similarity, same shape, not same size". Previous posts say it means approximately equal to.

Can we confirm that this means stack Mastery and Haste, and that versatility and Critical strike are not as important?

I just regeared (retadin) and my current stats are:

  • 45% Mastery
  • 36% Haste
  • 15% Crit
  • 4% Versatility

Is this what was meant by the Priority diagram above? Or do I have this all wrong?

Basically because of t21 2pc mastery has become more valuable. On AoE fights it's a huge dps increase with GJ. From what I've seen, you don't ever want more than 32% haste because at that point you have 100% judgment uptime. Plus GJ devalues crit.

It means that they are approximately equal, with the actual degree of equality depending on the player. The only way to find which one is better in Mastery vs. Haste and Vers. vs. Crit vs. Str is to sim yourself on RaidBots. If you want to follow it without caring about the simming, then follow it as:

Mastery = Haste > Vers = Crit = Strength

It's not that you don't want more than 31.25% Haste - the stat is still very good after that, but you just end up having 100% uptime on Judgement. It's just simplifying the rotation rather than changing anything.

Can we remove the coding joke? I know it's funny as an  inside-joke for those who know, but I really can't grasp the way stat priority is explained with machine language.

I'm not sure what you mean by a coding joke?

It's a symbol used universally to explain an approximation. The reason we use it is because there is no guarantee the stats are equal for you in the priority. The only way to actually tell if they are is to sim yourself. This is just a general guideline used to help people at any gear level.

They are also not exactly equal in the perfect sims, but are so close to each other, with either one being better than the other with a slight adjustment, that we can only call them approximately equal.

I have to agree with Kataxu.  Having searched for the meaning of -= I cannot find anything that indicates it means what you say it means.  Rather, I find that ~ or ≈ both do mean what you say -= means.  And most, if not all references to -= suggest some sort of coding language.

I use this site nearly every day and I find the use of this symbol to be quite confusing.  One should not have to do research in order to read what should be such a simple statement.

Something has changed with the formatting and I'm not sure why - it must be to do with a recent update of the framework of the site and how it displays the symbol. It should be a ~, but it has changed for some reason to "-". There has been no update to the page, so it definitely wasn't a manual change.

I'll see what we can do.

So, after a bit of research, we've found that there is a display error when using a tilde (the approximation sign). It's a bug with the font and it displays as the wrong sign. There was a recent post on the bug report saying it should be fixed somewhat soon, but it's not us fixing it, so we don't have a perfect ETA on it (the holiday season probably had an impact on it too). Treat the dash/equals as an approximation until then. This is the bug report for the error if you're interested:

https://github.com/google/fonts/issues/399

We're going to change the tilde to a font size of 14 px instead of 13, since the error seems to only exist there as a fix for now site-wide.

Guest Just another Pally

Hello!

I am curious about the trinkets, I am currently running  LFR Gorschalach and Seeping Scourgewing. I have a Shadow- Singed Fang and I am curious to know if i should stick with my current setup or trade out the Gorschalach for the Fang.

      Since we've entered the Cataclysm Classic pre-patch, we're taking a look at a couple of videos covering the many, many changes that arrived with the original Cataclysm way back in 2010, as they take us through all the major modifications! Cata was the biggest change ever introduced to the actual world of WoW, stepping from the classic look to a new one, and few zones on Azeroth were left untouched.
      While the general feel of most zones was left intact, it's really staggering just how much changed, even with the smaller modifications. Let's start with Kalimdor, from the really big changes like Orgrimmar, the Barrens and Thousand Needles, to the smaller ones like Winterspring, there's plenty to see!
      Then we're on to the Eastern Kingdoms, with Hillsbrad, Loch Modan and the Badlands (as well as parts of Stormwind) leading the way.

      What's your most/least favorite change Cataclysm brought?
