The Month Ahead in World of Warcraft: August

Recommended Posts

VT3QKkB.jpg

The last month of Warlords of Draenor (and the summer) will keep us busy with various events, most notably the pre-expansion ones. Bear in mind that the weekly bonus events will be gone for the first month of Legion.

Are you ready for the first summer expansion in World of Warcraft's history? Arguably, a lot of people will have free time during August, so they can invest themselves fully to the demonic invasions. Coming on August 9, the Burning Legion will invade various zones of Azeroth and it will be up to us - the players - to fend its forces off. Demon Hunters will also go live at the same date for those who have pre-purchased Legion.

As far as world events are concerned, Darkmoon Faire will begin - as usual - on the first Sunday of the month, while the Stranglethorn Fishing contest is currently on hiatus. Moreover, this is your last chance to take advantage of the weekly bonus events before Legion. As you can see in the table below, the weekly events last a full week (instead of 5 days) for this month:

Event Start Date End Date
Darkmoon Faire 7th August 14th August
Cataclysm Timewalking Dungeon Event 2nd August 9th August
Apexis Crystal Bonus Event 9th August 16th August
Draenor Dungeons Event 16th August 23rd August

Outside of the game, you can look forward to the two remaining animated shorts of the Harbinger series and, of course, for Legion itself which will launch on August 30.

Remember that there will be no weekly bonus events in September, since players will be busy playing the new expansion; these events will presumably resume in October, with older events (such as the Apexis one) being replaced.

So next Wednesday the struggle will begin; do I first level a demon hunter or do I first join in on killing Demon hordes raining from the sky...?

Well, you can only do 2 levels for the Demon Hunter (from 98 to 100) and the invasions will be around for the rest of the month, so you have time for both!

DesMephisto is back (or, more accurately, he never left, as he constantly strives to improve his leveling speeds), and he's gotten his speed record for 10-50 Shadowlands leveling significantly down from his last attempt! 3 hours and 56 minutes (or 3 h 37 min, if you remove the "screwing around" parts) is all it took to get to the equivalent of today's level 120, using Chromie time in Warlords of Draenor, beating the previous best we reported by over an hour and a half.

Now, it's important to mention that Blizzard have stated in interviews that the current XP rates and leveling speeds on Alpha aren't final and are very rough at the moment, but it's till great to see players going for these speed records nonetheless.
And here's the last minute or so of the leveling process, and you can check out the whole thing below as well:

You can also check out our recent interview with the man himself, where he goes into all the many recent achievements he's had, from the 46 max level warriors, to the speed leveling, Autism charity, Guinness World Record and more.

Method ran Ny'alotha on Heroic difficulty with a raid comprised of 29 Mages and one Demon Hunter, and while they downed all the bosses including N'Zoth, the clear highlight is Dresta'gath that has been defeated in just 22 seconds.
You can watch the Pyroblast shower and Dresta'gath's decreasing health bar in the following video:

3D Artist Dronmo has created a jungle in Unreal Engine 4 inspired by Stranglethorn Vale.
Here's a comparison of the Stranglethorn Vale in World of Warcraft and the recreated version of the zone in Unreal Engine 4 taken from ArtStation.

Here's another comparison of the zone.

The artist teamed up with his friend, a guitar virtuoso, who produced ambient relaxing music for the video.
