Nighthold Guides

Our guide section has been updated with boss guides for Nighthold, don't forget to check them out to be Ahead of the Curve: Gul'danAhead of the Curve: Gul'dan. Should you need any help, feel free to post in the PvE forum.

7.1.5 Class Guides

All 36 specializations in our Class Guides have been updated for the latest patch.

Legendary Items

After Nighthold opens, players will be able to upgrade their existing item level 910 Legendaries to item level 940. Emissary caches will start dropping Legendaries of item level 940 by default.

Blizzard LogoAerythlea

Since the release of Patch 7.1.5, we've received a number of questions relating to the Nighthold Legendary item upgrades and how that process will work. We'd like to provide some clarity on what you can expect next week.

When the Nighthold opens next week, players who have acquired at least one Legion Legendary item will find a quest in Dalaran to upgrade a Legendary from item level 910 to 940. This quest involves collecting a number of
Essence of Aman'ThulEssence of Aman'Thul, which can be found in the following locations:

  • Nighthold Raid Bosses
  • Weekly Mythic Keystone Cache
  • Emissary Bags
  • PvP Weekly Quests

Once you have completed the quest, you'll be given a Distilled Titan EssenceDistilled Titan Essence, which can be consumed to upgrade a Legion Legendary item to level 940. The quest is repeatable, so you'll be able to earn as many Distilled Titan EssenceDistilled Titan Essences as you need to upgrade any Legendaries you have.

Additionally, once the Nighthold is open, any new Legendaries you discover will already be item level 940. Note that this does not apply retroactively to Emissary Bags that you may already have in your inventory when the time comes. Only new bags earned after the Nighthold is open have the chance to reward an item level 940 Legendary.

Tier 19 Sets

Nighthold is the first raid to drop sets in the Legion and we've taken a closer look at Tier 19 here.

Nighthold Mounts

  • Fiendish Hellfire CoreFiendish Hellfire Core is a guaranteed drop from Gul'dan on Mythic difficulty. The drop chance will be reduced to 1% after a new expansion is released.

Gul'dan (Mythic Only Phase)

This part contains major lore spoilers, proceed with caution!

Spoiler

There was a Mythic-only phase for Gul'dan, but it got removed from the Encounter Journal.

So, Gul'dan will try to bring Sargeras to Azeroth via Illidan's body and Illidan will be possessed and we'll be fighting him. There's a NPC called The Demon Within. He's also the objective for The Nighthold: Gul'dan that rewards Cache of Nightborne TreasuresCache of Nightborne Treasures. The model can be found below.

What ilvl is required to do Raid Finder? Also what ilvl is recommended for normal? Cheers to a great site.

835 it seems for RF. iLvL for normal will always depend on the group.

Since every other LFR has required 10 ilvl less than it drops. I would assume Nighthold to be 845/850 :)

Confirming what Blainie said. The item level requirement for LFR Nighthold is 835.

So ahead of the curve for xavius is gone does that mean the one for helya is gone too?

From what I've read, AotC for ToV will be removed when Tomb of Sargeras comes out in 7.2.

Primal Obliterum can only upgrade new Patch 7.3 crafted items to item level 935. Pre-7.3 items can only be upgraded to 900 with Obliterum.
To upgrade Obliterum into Primal Obliterum, you will need 1 Obliterum & 1 Primal Sargerite. Another Primal Sargerite will be consumed when you upgrade an item with Primal Obliterum by 5 ilvls.
      New 7.3 Crafted Gear
Only the following items can be upgraded to 935. It doesn't matter if you craft older items after 7.3 goes live, they won't go beyond 900.

Obliterum has been a steady gold maker during Legion, but what's the future of crafted items in Patch 7.3?
Patch 7.3 added the following strings to the game:
"SPELL_FAILED_CUSTOM_ERROR_345","This item requires basic Obliterum to upgrade."
"SPELL_FAILED_CUSTOM_ERROR_346","This item requires Primal Obliterum to upgrade."
We did some testing on PTR and old crafted pre-7.3 gear (ilvl 835/850) can be upgraded with Obliterum up to ilvl 900. You can't use Obliterum to upgrade the new 7.3 crafted items. Instead, you will need to use Primal Obliterum that can upgrade it up to ilvl 935.
Primal Obliterum is forged by combining a new Blood of Sargeras called Primal Sargerite and good old Obliterum. Primal Sargerite can be transmuted by Alchemists (Transmute: Primal Sargerite) at the cost of 25 Bloods of Sargeras. There are various sources of Primal Sargerite (world quests, shoulder enchant etc). The item's required for many new recipes, so a person would be forced to have Alchemy and that's not a design Blizzard would choose.
The good news is Obliterum will still be profitable in 7.3 and if you plan to sell Primal Obliterum, you will need to combine Obliterum with Primal Sargerite.

Last week, Bay sat down with wordup and talked about Enhancement Shamans in Legon. He's back with another very detailed videos for all Brewmaster Monk players.
In the 152nd episode he's joined by BrewingScribe & Paoanii (Envy).

Many players are still waiting for Patch 7.3 to go live, before they complete the Mage Tower Challenge for their Artifact weapon appearance, because with increasing item level, the challenge becomes more trivial. If you have your appearance unlocked and think how good you are, you probably haven't heard of Muddymonk!
The player wrote on reddit that he finished Mage Tower Challenges for each class / specialization - that's a total of 36 challenges.

Redditor eke00372 uploaded a video of Argus the Unmaker from PTR. Blizzard opened Antorus for testing and a guild was able to access the raid's final boss, even though testing should have ended with Aggramar. The fight is still very unfinished. The boss can be CCed and isn't even an elite.
After defeating Aggramar, you talk to Magni and get teleported to the Seat of the Pantheon.
The fight takes place in an area called Seat of the Pantheon.

      Rewards
Multiple rewards await after you defeat Legion's final boss.
