My Role in Writing Guides - L0rinda

Hi everyone! I would like to update you on my new role as a Hearthstone guide writer.

As some of you will know, I've been writing news here at Icy-Veins for over a year. A lot has changed in that year, both personally, and within Hearthstone. I switched from Arena to Constructed with the introduction of Standard, and have started to cast quite a few large events.

With those things in mind, I've been let loose on writing guides. I won't be touching Sottle's high level content, but instead will be focussing on keep your old decks fresh. I will be updating decks which have dropped out of the meta, and making them playable to somewhere in the region of Rank Five. They will be weaker than the meta decks, but if you have played the older versions you will probably find that you already own many of the cards, and experience, required to play them.

Hopefully this will fill a gap for some of you. I'll be a little busy for the first few weeks as I get the hang of things and concentrate on producing quality content, but feel free to let me know if there's an archetype you feel has been left out.

Great news.

I enjoy dusting off some of the older decks every now and then.  I think this will also benefit players who were lacking key cards for certain decks at the time but now have them.

Thanks for doing this!

This is good news, indeed.

@L0rinda I cant wait to see what you start putting up. Since you are talking about old decks, will you be mostly doing Wild, especially once the new Hearthstone Year breaks, or will you be putting up new iterations of old Standard decks too?

My intention is to stick to Standard for now. Standard is the place where archetypes seem to die out more quickly when a new set is released. I started with Token Druid, and the next one will be Evolve Shaman. Beyond that, I have a few ideas already, but have not tested anything extensively enough to be comfortable promising anything in particular.

Thanks, I'll be glad to see some of the older decks discussed.

So if we're looking at the decklist, what is our best choice for identifying "weaker than the meta decks". Should we just look at the deck's introductory paragraph (I see that comment for Token Druid)?

If the list is by me, then take it as weaker than meta. I'll also put it in the Introduction too to be clear.

Sottle will still be in charge of the meta decks.

The latest Hearthstone balance patch comes with adjustments to multiple Demon Hunter cards. Blizzard offers full Arcane Dust refunds for both regular and golden copies of Skull of Gul'dan and Imprisoned Antaen, and the golden copy of Eye Beam.

      Hey everyone,
Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be keeping an eye on the power level of Demon Hunter. Our goal is to make changes when necessary in order to get Demon Hunter to where we believe it should be. Today, we’ll be applying the following balance updates to a few Demon Hunter cards in a server-side patch (meaning you won’t have to download anything):
Skull of Gul'dan – Mana cost increased from 5 to 6. Imprisoned Antaen – Mana cost increased from 5 to 6. Eye Beam – Outcast Mana cost increased from 0 to 1. Aldrachi Warblades – Durability decreased from 3 to 2. We wanted to get these changes out the door today, and in doing so you will only see the new stats for these cards—displayed in both red and green—in matches, not in your Collection. The red and green numbers will return to white and the cards will be updated in your Collection with a data-only patch that we’re expecting to deploy before the end of the day tomorrow.
For Arena, we’re making changes today that will see Demon Hunter class card offering rates decreased until we’re able to properly address the class with more accurate micro-adjustments in a future patch. The following cards have had their offering rates reduced in Arena:
Chaos Nova Coilfang Warlord Command the Illidari Flamereaper Furious Felfin Glaivebound Adept Illidari Felblade Immolation Aura Metamorphosis Netherwalker Nethrandamus Priestess of Fury Skull of Gul'dan Twin Slice Umberwing 4/8 Update: A full Arcane Dust refund will be issued for both regular (100 Dust) and golden (800 Dust) copies of Skull of Gul'dan and Imprisoned Antaen, as well as golden Eye Beam (1600 Dust).

Senior Game Designer Dean Ayala (IksarHS) teased a balance update coming to the game later today with card adjustments for Skull of Gul'dan, Imprisoned Antaen, Eye Beam, and Aldrachi Warblades.
      (Source)
We're planning on making some balance changes that should go out today. Cards we're looking at are Skull of Gul'dan, Imprisoned Antaen, Eye Beam, and Aldrachi Warblades. We'll send out the final info from our official channels when it's ready.
We're also making some adjustments to Demon Hunter in Arena. We don't have enough data to make large scale micro-adjustments, but we're opting to make balance changes by hand while we wait for the normal full patch to take place.
As for Demon Hunter class balance, we'd like to keep the class-defining pieces more powerful while pulling back on the cards that make DH feel like it's good at everything.
The expectation should be that there will be a lot of balance iteration over the next few weeks. We'll be making changes a little more frequently until we feel that DH is in a fun, unique, and balanced state.
We have another patch planned for late next week that will address any further changes we want to make to Constructed, Battlegrounds, or Arena.
