Heroes of the Storm's second ranked season is ending in a few days, and it's time to look at Season 3 rewards, roll dates and changes to ranked play.

September 5 is the date when Kel'Thuzad's going live together with the third ranked season. Blizzard will loosen the system's certaintly level in skill rating, so it will be easier to move through ranks during your first few matches. In the upcoming season, changes to how placement matches work for high-ranked players will be implemented and Grandmaster will only become available two weeks after the season starts.

Season Roll Dates

2017 Season 3 will begin as soon as our next patch becomes available for download in each region throughout next week. Check the season start and end dates below to make sure you’re able to dive into the rankings as soon as the season rolls.

EVENT DATE
2017 Season 3 Start Week of September 5*
2017 Season 3 End Week of November 14*

*Exact date may vary slightly by region.

Ranked Play Updates

With this next ranked season, we’re changing the way that placements work for high-ranked players. Previously, the highest a player could be placed was Diamond 3. This was causing some chaos during the early parts of a season where Diamond-skilled players and Master-skilled players were heavily intermixed. This season, players can be placed as high as 1000 rank points into Master which should help with that. To go along with that, Grandmaster will only become available two weeks after the start of the season so players aren’t placing directly into Grandmaster and there’s two weeks of competition before the first Grandmasters are crowned.

2017 Season 3 Rewards

Players who manage to brawl their way up through the leagues during the upcoming season can claim new portraits, mounts, and gold rewards for their achievements in Hero and Team League. Take a look at everything that’s up for grabs this season!

In addition to everything we’ve mentioned so far, there will be 10 placement matches waiting for you on the other side of the season roll that you’ll need to play through in order to receive your initial ranking. We also plan to once again loosen the system’s certainty level in everyone’s skill rating, so it will be a little easier to move through the rankings during your first few matches this season.

If you’re ready to begin your Ranked Play journey in Heroes of the Storm but are unsure how, head over to our Ranked Play Guide to get started on the right foot.

Good luck and have fun during the third ranked season of 2017!

Finally.... this change was stupid from the beginning and i'm glad that they finally removed it.

I really liked this season, except for the smurfing and Malthael. Wish they'd disallow new heroes being picked in HL for at least a week after their launch.

also Team League icons have better sparks around them.

That's not fair Blizzard :|

But isn't spreading the joy of co-operation the true meaning of Heroes?

That's how OW does it and, honestly, I don't see why they don't do it in HoTS. Forces people to get their "new-thing OMG" feelings out of their system, especially given how easy it is to hit level 5. Also, more balancing time etc.

There just isn't really an argument to not do it..
