Chromie's Sand BlastSand Blast quest takes too long to finish in its current state and next week's balance tweaks should make it easier to complete.

Ana and Volskaya Foundry will be hitting PTR tomorrow. Stay tuned for the official patch notes.

Chromie's Sand BlastSand Blast quest will be getting some balance tweaks next week to make it a little easier to complete.

During our testing, we were seeing a lot of Chromie's finishing the quest around 10 to 15 minutes. Every once in a while, they weren't finishing it. Which we actually think is okay, because in order for a quest completion to feel meaningful it probably needs to not be completed every once in a while (looking at Medivh).

We ended up being a little conservative with the numbers on Chromie's quest, but I think that's probably better than making the little artillery gnome oppressive for a few weeks. Our Balance team usually spends about 15 hours a week playtesting new content internally, and Chromie was no different, but even with that amount of testing there's a little margin of error.

15 minutes? They must mean the Dragon Breath quests? That Q quest is too easy. Problem is mostly that players pick the bronze talons at 4 while chromie NEEDS the piercing sands

Piercing sands is a lvl 20 talent though and it clearly states that it doesn't contribute to the quest progress.

As Foudmery said, that's not even close to the right tier for that talent. Maybe you're thinking of the super-stacking talent at 1 where if you hit 3 in a row it counts as 9. Even if that's true (and that talent sucks), blizzard has constantly been moving away from single talent paths the best they can, so that alone being required would be enough for a change.

"Level 4" (2) has Bronze talons, W radius, and Time trap resets Q-W cooldown. Bronze talons is 100000% the choice here. It is the only way Chromie can become not entirely skill-shot based as you get huge value even if you miss. The CD reset isn't terrible, but often times when a time-trap triggers you are already pressured to where you can't deliver that huge combo safely. Bronze talons is safe and provides guaranteed value, one of the few talents in the game to give 100% value EVERY cast.

This change is needed. You had to be next-level accurate with Chromie to finish the quest reasonably, and even when it is done that just gets her back close to her old power level since the quest builds up similar to a seasoned marksmen talent. It's not enough value for the time, so they needed to either buff the value or shorten the time. Glad they went with time, because that is her specialty after all...

I honestly think a huge part of it is the enemy team too - when I come up against Illidan/Nova/Zeratul, I know that quest isn't being completed. If I'm against other mages, KT/KT/Jaina/any big tank, it becomes so easy to complete IMO.

Maybe enemy matchup is skewing their numbers somewhat? Hoping they take it into account.

Oh, map also. The 2 Starcraft maps are a dream for her quest, since you have vision so often of enemies on the objective.

This could be valid... but I hope they are ignoring numbers from quick match and only looking at ranked/unranked draft where you pick the heroes according to their strengths. Chromie on something like Towers of Doom or Braxis is a whole different power level than Chromie on BHB. Same with into certain team comps, Chromie into 2-support hyper carry is AMAZING, but into heavy dive struggles hard.

If they are looking at QM to balance heroes, we are doomed.

I feel like they must be, at least to some degree, since I'm sure so many of their player-base only plays outside of ranked. They seem to do it a lot in games like Overwatch, where they try to balance based on what is happening at every level of the game (doesn't really work). QM almost certainly has some input on the balancing.

I know you have to be right... Otherwise Valeera wouldn't have been smashed as hard with a nerf bat. But that's problematic because taking data with zero context (which QM offers zero context to a hero) can lead to huge inconsistencies in balancing.

It's why I feel Nova doesn't get touched anywhere near as much she should be - in QM, she dominates because you can't pick to counter her and most people playing don't communicate enough to stop her. In competitive, she is the epitome of feast/famine gameplay.

It's silly, but I feel like they must be using QM too.
