Raiding for the first time - Sub Rogue

Recommended Posts

Hey there Folks,

Despite having first played WoW a while back I never actually put too much time into it and only ended up with my first max level char at the tail end of WoD/Legion Beta.

Never felt confident enough to try raiding, partly due to inexperience and also partly due to my tendency to tunnel badly on one part of the screen (e.g. energy/combo bar) and not be able to keep track of what's going on in the fight.

Having said that, I wanted to at least try LFR or something so just wondered if anyone had any advice/tips before doing so? Been practicing the opener on a dummy, read/watched a few guides, using weak auras as well. Gear level is 903.

Hello @Hishy!

I think with item level 903 you're ready for at least Tomb of Sargeras (Normal). You won't have any problems in LFR. It's called the "tourist mode" of WoW for a reason. Bosses only have a few abilities and they do little to no damage. LFR offers a very basic preview of boss encounters in higher difficulties. In Normal (or higher) bosses oftentimes have more abilities. For more details about Tomb you can read our Tomb of Sargeras guide.

WA is a great addon and you can find some great rogue weekauras here, just pick the one you like most.

To catch up on gear, don't forget to exchange Veiled Argunite for ilvl 910 items and try to complete a Mythic Keystone (+10 recommended) every week for the weekly reward in your Order Hall cache.

For class-specific advice, check out our class guides. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Thanks Stan, I'd heard people call LFR cinematic mode but I didn't know if they were just being dramatic lol. Would you say 10 or 25 man better for starting?

I've read through the guide here already and it's been very helpful. Forgot to mention that I have DBM installed.

I guess I'll just jump in then to LFR, if anything it'll highlight what I need to work on if I struggle.

It depends. There's raid scaling in Legion. If you raid with a guild, the raid size is usually bigger, but if you use the Group Finder, the size will be smaller. Group Finder is great for its flexibility and you decide when you want to raid. If you're having problems finding a group, just create your own raid :).

Hello roguely buddies, I've got some information I want to confirm about raiding Subtlety. I've been pulled out of raiding retirement by Akraen, and my knowledge of Subtlety mechanics dates back to Dragon Soul. From what I can tell not a lot has changed, however I just want to make sure.
If any of the following facts are wrong or there are facts missing, please point them out:
      SnD: 100% uptime
      Rupture: 100% uptime
Recuperate: No longer necessary for Energetic Recovery (that makes things easier)
Find Weakness: Maximum uptime possible, can't avoid clipping during shadow dance, but avoid clipping with extra cooldowns like vanish and prep-vanish.
Shadowstep: No longer ups Ambush damage, not a damage cooldown (that makes things easier)
These are things I'm less sure about:
Cooldown overlapping: Shadow Blades overlapping with Find Weakness seems like a waste to me. However, if I'm playing properly, Find Weakness should be up a lot of the time. Does that make it not matter when I hit Shadow Blades? Should I pair it with Shadow Dance or offset them?
Hemo Bleed: Is this something we still have to keep up 100% of the time?
Stealth opener vs. vanish opener: My thinking is that the very beginning of the fight would start with a Garrote to get the bleed ticking right away, and vanish openers would use Ambush instead. Is this correct, or is it better to open the fight with Ambush?
Combo point ruptures: Is it more important to roll 5 point ruptures or to have 100% rupture uptime?
