Argus the Unmaker - Secret Mythic Phase

Recommended Posts

Argus the Unmaker got a distinct model in the latest Patch 7.3.2 PTR build and it seems he will serve as Sargeras' host during the secret Mythic phase in Antorus the Burning Throne.

Mythic Phase Abilities

In last week's Patch 7.3.2 PTR build, Blizzard added many abilities that indicate Sargeras will be a part of the encounter (Sargeras' GazeSargeras' Gaze).

Here's a list of his abilities:

  • Collective PunishmentCollective Punishment - Sargeras inflicts Collective Punishment on the target every 5 secs for 15 sec. Each strike inflicts 60,000,000 Shadow damage divided among players within 20 yards. Prepare for the judgment of Sargeras...
  • Sargeras' RageSargeras' Rage - Inflicts a player with Sargeras' Rage, causing them to release Unleashed Rage if any other players come nearby.
    •
Unleashed RageUnleashed Rage - Inflicts 1,500,000 Shadow damage every 2 sec. for 30 sec to both the player with Sargeras' Rage and to any players who come nearby. This effect stacks.
  • Sargeras' FearSargeras' Fear - Inflicts a player with Sargeras' Fear, inflicting them with Crushing Fear if they are not within a short distance of another player.
    • Crushing FearCrushing Fear - Inflicts 2,500,000 Shadow damage every 2 sec. for 30 sec. This effect stacks.
  • Chains of SargerasChains of Sargeras - Inflicts 500,000 Shadow damage every 2 sec. as long as the player is attached to the Chains of Sargeras. This effect stacks.
    • Breaking the chain will cause Shattered BondsShattered Bonds - 1,500,000 Shadow damage every 2 sec. for 10 sec.

The latest Patch 7.3.2 PTR build added a couple of interesting spells and a distinct model for Argus the Unmaker, so it's possible that he will serve as a host for Sargeras during the secret phase. Argus will at some point transform (Argus Mythic TransformArgus Mythic Transform) and look like this:

The Mythic Dungeon Journal entry for Argus the Unmaker is different at this time. It does not mention any Constellar Designates in stage 3 like other difficulties do and there's no stage 4. We'll have to wait and see to figure it out, but we can speculate that the transformation occurs at around 40%.

Stage Three: The Arcane Masters

Mythic Difficulty Description: When Argus reaches 40% health, he is sufficiently weakened such that Aman'thul is able to subdue him with a Temporal BlastTemporal Blast. Or - so it seems...

It is worth noting that either a few of the abilities functions or name have a striking resemblance to the Lich King raid encounter:

1. "Kill everyone" effect (unavoidable, even with immunities)

2. "Shattered bonds" name is a reference to Tirion fordring in his speech during the encounter "Highlord Tirion Fordring yells: LIGHT, GRANT ME ONE FINAL BLESSING. GIVE ME THE STRENGTH... TO SHATTER THESE BONDS!"

3. "Ress everyone" effect which also coincides with text:

a.  "Terenas Menethil II yells: Rise up, champions of the Light!"

b. "Essence of Eonar: Arise, champions!"

4. "Unshackled Rage" ability name is a play on "My mightiest servants have fallen before your relentless onslaught, your unbridled fury..." that the lich king quotes.

There's probably a couple more that I caught during these weeks but forgot as time passed.

I wouldn't be shocked if all of those things did play into the 'secret phase' - everyone and everything the Legion destroyed over the course of WOW, coming home to roost for the grand finale.

Rextroy is back with a new video, where he one-shots 20 players with a single Chaos Bolt thanks to the Void Ritual Corruption Effect.
It took Rextroy a while to come up with a new video because he had to gear up his Warlock from scratch and farm Echoes of Ny'alotha to make this work since Blizzard recently implemented Inescapable Consequences that kills you when you have more than 200 Corruption equipped at once.
Void Ritual is the perfect Corruption Effect that increases the damage of Chaos Bolt since the damage scales with Critical Strike, Mastery, and Versatility.
The Bane of Havoc PvP Talent allows you to hit as many people with Chaos Bolt as you need.
Rextroy also had to gather Azerite pieces with Crashing Chaos and Chaotic Inferno to make this work. The Essences used for this combo are Worldvein Resonance and Replica of Knowledge (The Formless Void). Important are also Gladiator's Badge and the Fireblood racial. You get an additional 12% damage increase from Grimoire of Supremacy, so all these effect combined will substantially increase the damage of Chaos Bolt.
There's also a workaround for Inescapable Consequences. Simply, removing your Void Ritual gear after you get the proc makes it keep stacking up the secondary stats at full power, allowing you to enter combat with your normal gear together with an instane stat boost.
Check out the video below for more information!

As the end of expansion lull is upon us, we should always remember there are many, MANY things to do in WoW that aren't just current content, and we have a really cool challenge/concept by Deededee everyone should take a look at! He's taken playing old raids to a whole new and fun level. The idea is quite simple and very roguelike: you start out naked in Molten Core and just gear up along the way. The catch is you stop if you die (although that part can be skipped if you're not a hardcore type of person) and tally all the drops you got, trying to get further and get some better stuff along the way.

This will certainly make transmog runs more fun, if you can stomach doing a few raids you don't need stuff from, but it really seems worth it.
Another fun aspect of this is sharing the results with friends on twitter or elsewhere (or just keep the screenshots for yourself and see if you can beat your previous upgrade tally), and then commiserate how unlucky you got with drops (which, let's face it, is the primary mode of communication in WoW ? ).
I'll definitely be doing a few runs, if nothing else to see how many times the left binding can drop off Garr on characters that aren't my warrior, so I can complain about that a bit more (because 15 years just isn't enough)!
