In an unexpected twist of events, the Taiwanese HGG team was disqualified from the competition because they used the delayed tournament broadcast to their advantage during their game with Singapore.

The Chinese Taipei team consists of 2017 World Champion tom60229 and well-known players ahqRoger, ahqShaxy and reall. Team Singapore will advance in their stead on the playoff stage at BlizzCon.

The Chinese Taipei Hearthstone Global Games (HGG) team has been disqualified from the Hearthstone Global Games competition.

Following the Chinese Taipei vs. Singapore match, the Chinese Taipei team uploaded a video of their gameplay. Upon review of the video, and after reviewing in-person statements from the players, the Hearthstone Esports team has determined that members of the Chinese Taipei team used the delayed tournament broadcast to aid them in a decision during the game. This behavior is prohibited in our tournament rules under section 7.11a. Specifically, players are prohibited from “stream sniping, or any general attempt by a player to spectate his or her own match or get information from another person spectating the match.”

Based on the timing of this disqualification, the Singapore HGG team will advance in place of the Chinese Taipei team to the playoff stage of the Hearthstone Global Games at BlizzCon.

So....Who got banned now? china or taiwan? Headline says its taiwan, blue text says its china...

Taipei is the capital of Taiwan. It's not recognised as an official independent country, but as part of China.

Taiwan. Blizzard (and many many other companies, not to mention nations) calls them Chinese Taipei because of historical and political baggage that isn't really germane to go into here. Just google History of Taiwan if you really want to know.

What a shame! I live in Taiwan and always support them... just to discover a bunch of cheaters. Disappointing really. I think the punishment should be harsher than just a disqualification. Also Blizzard should pay attention to the 15 delay limit, they were stupid enough to get caught but I assume that many other teams could use the same technique.

Always the risk with professional matches played remotely - you don't know who is whispering into the ears of these players.
