In this article, we're looking at the price of riding and you'll find out how much gold you need to gather to be able to afford a mount in WoW Classic.
Did You Know?
Flying mounts were only added to the game in the Burning Crusade. In Classic, all you get is a 60% ground mount at level 40 and a 100% ground mount at level 60.
In Vanilla, there were no world quests, so the amount of gold generated from questing was limited to leveling, and that barely covered your training expenses. Professions and the Auction House were your best friends if you wanted to unlock your mount as fast as possible.
Riding in Classic WoW
We checked out the Orgrimmar Wolf Raider on Classic Beta first and it turns out as an Undead, you will need to reach Exalted with Orgrimmar to be able to learn Wolf Riding, even though WoWWiki claims that Riding has changed in Patch 1.12 to a new system, where each race no longer had their own riding skill (Wolf Riding [Orcs], Ram Riding [Dwarves], Tiger Riding [Night Elves], etc.) and mounts became BoP, which does not appear to be the case on Beta. Confusing, right?
Next, we went to Brill to check out the cost of riding, because we're playing an Undead and the reputation requirement is ignored for your own race.
We found out that Skeletal Horse Riding costs 20 gold (without reputation discounts).
Now comes the fun part. Rare mounts, which increase your ground speed by 60% cost 80 gold each (undiscounted) and an epic 100% mount will cost you a whopping 1,000 gold (900 gold mount + 100 gold riding skill).
You will need to pay 100 gold for the 60% mount and 1,000 gold for the 100% mount in WoW Classic (before reputation discounts)
In Classic, the amount of gold you pay for the mount can decrease by up to a total of 20%.
At Honored reputation standing with a faction, the mount price is decreased by 10%. At PvP rank 3, the mount price is decreased by 10%.
Racial mounts in Classic are BoE, so a friend can eventually purchase the mount 20% cheaper and trade it with you.
The epic mount in Classic WoW will cost you a whopping 1,000 Gold.
Blizzard made the stress test install appear on the game screen of the launcher for everyone who installed it to ensure a smooth uninstall process earlier today, leaving stress test participants confused.
Later, they clarified that only Classic Beta players were able to participate in the focused testing of Alterac Valley.
i did the first 2 stress tests so far and i heard about the AV test starting today and i noticed the beta and stress test server came back up on the drop down menu on the battle.net desktop app and it really has my hopes up, does this mean i will soon be able to help test AV?
Earlier today, we made the stress test install appear on the game screen of the launcher for all players who have installed it. This is to make it possible to uninstall easily.
Here comes some more targeted testing on the Classic beta, as Alterac Valley is getting the exclusive treatment from June 14th to the 17th! There's a new realm that will be up on those days with pre-made level 58 characters with the appropriate gear, skills etc, ready to test the big battleground. All other realms will be down on the beta during this 3 day testing period and characters will be confined to their capital cities, so it's all AV all the time!
On Friday, June 14 at 2:00 p.m. PDT, we’ll open a new realm in the WoW Classic Beta for dedicated testing of Alterac Valley.
When beta testers log into the WoW Classic Beta at that time, please look for the new Field of Strife realm. Alterac Valley will only be available for testing on this realm, and we will be turning off the other beta realms for the duration of the AV test. You’ll find that test characters on Field of Strife are confined to their capital cities. Don’t worry—even if you could leave the city, there will be no enemies, quest-givers, dungeons, or transports throughout the rest of the world.
On the Field of Strife realm, when you create a character, it will be locked at level 58 for AV testing. These test characters will have appropriate gear, some gold, a mount, and access to class trainers and reagent vendors, but they will not be able to level up past 58.
Please go to your city’s Battlemasters and queue for Alterac Valley as much as you like, and submit your feedback in our dedicated Alterac Valley feedback thread.
We expect to close the realm and this AV test on Monday, June 17 at about 10:00 a.m PDT. At that time, the other beta realms will return.
We have a stress test scheduled for tomorrow on WoW Classic Beta and this post highlights some addons which have been found working with the Classic version of the game right now.
Popular Resources for Classic Addons
The sites listed below contain a list of addons working with Classic Beta.
Spreadsheet with Working Classic Addons -- periodically updated with new addons as they become available. Will It Classic? -- another great site with updated information regarding Classic Addons. Questie SVN (GitHub) -- a popular addon for Questing still in Alpha/Beta. WoWInterface -- Classic section of the popular site for addons. Recommended Addons
Even though the stress test is limited to level 5, you may want to install at least some addons to help you during that time. The addons we're using currently on Beta include:
Map Coords Classic - Adds coordinates to the minimap and the world map, vital for navigating quest objectives. Dominos Classic - A main actionbar replacement. Alternatively, you can use TukUI, which has been ported to Classic. Vendor Price - Displays the vendor price of items. Questie v4 Alpha - A standalone Classic QuestHelper. While the addon is still early in development and some features may not work as intended, the latest version comes with objectives tracking, for some quests at least! How to Install Addons for Classic
Download the addon you want to install. Navigate to your WoW installation folder, extract the addon and move it to the Interface/Addons folder. Start the game and on the bottom left, make sure that your addons are enabled.
You no longer need to rename the Questie folder.
Questie is a little different. You must first visit GitHub, and click on the green "Clone or download" button. Extract the folder, rename "QuestieDev-QuestieClassic" to just "Questie" and move it to Interface/Addons.
Vanilla Friends is a new website which offers a convenient way to track down your old friends from Vanilla just in time before Classic launch.
Vanilla Friends launched to help you reconnect with old friends and enemies from Vanilla WoW in advance of the Classic launch on August 27th.
The site serves as a player database. You can add yourself by selecting your region and filling out various details about your character, including realm, faction, contact method, and contact info. You can search the database of players and apply various filters to narrow down your search results.
