Mythic Azshara Nerf Coming in Hotfix Tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Update: The hotfix should be live now!

It seems after taking a good look at the situation of the World First race at the moment, Blizzard have decided that Queen Azshara is, indeed, a little too hard. The adds have become the focus of progress recently, and they will be becoming a bit easier from tomorrow, as their Berserk will come a minute later into the fight, opening a lot more options for dealing with them.

We have a hotfix in testing that we intend to apply to change the Queen Azshara encounter tomorrow morning (PDT):

  • Queen Azshara’s minions now Berserk after 3 minutes in Phase 3 of the encounter on Mythic difficulty (was 2 minutes).

We’ll confirm when the hotfix is ready and going live tomorrow morning.

I also wanted to mention that this is exactly the way significant hotfixes to bosses during progression should be handled, giving the guilds some time to prepare and not find out about it mid-pull and have to adjust. Hopefully all changes from now on will be handled this way, so a big thank you to Blizzard from at least one race fan here.

Also, as a side note, just wanted to clarify that this is different from the enrage that Azshara casts on the adds at 50%, but it is what is currently wiping the guilds - they get 2 adds down and then the berserk hits, wiping them immediately.

It does make me sad that this will ultimately kill the advantage limit had on this boss. Like its going to kill 50+ pulls for method and the asian guilds.

I dunno, I mean a significant part they have that advantage is their head start soooo... I'm not saying they wouldn't be in the lead without it but we really can't ever know. Plus the same thing always happened whenever Method or Exorsus or whoever got to a final boss first or to a specific phase first. It's a bad way to do things but I'm not sure there's a better one.

The head start is a narrative we created. The guilds gain information from the "head start" that helps them catch up, like they did this time.

Limit had over a 16 hour lead that they earned by being the first to get pulls on QA.

To boot they did manage to kill all 3 adds last night. So they made progress before the nerf/adjustment.

Now one thing that could come from this is more guilds battling it out at the end.  Only time and hot fix will tell.

Especially because no one has seen Phase 4.

It is so incredibly NOT a narrative. Yes there is a disadvantage to getting to a potentially unkillable boss first, yes there is a disadvantage to other guilds checking your kills, but here's the thing: EVERYONE gets that. When Method got to a boss first they had the same exact issues, and yet they didn't have the 16 hours advantage. So yes, there are some disadvantages to going first, however they do not equal a FULL raid day of tries. Not to mention the hotfix today also coming at US guild raid prime time and 8 hours into EU guild progress, not to mention that it comes at the literal end of Asia guild raid day.

Rextroy is back after a bit of a soloing absence, and he's gotten some gear ready in 8.3 - so naturally it was time to head into the current raid and solo a boss! Prophet Skitra is the second or third boss of the raid, depending on whether you pick her or Maut after Wrathion, and in this World First video we get a little extra explanation on how he did it by Rextroy (head to 5:36 in the video for that part).

You can also check out our in-depth interview with the man himself, as he goes over some of his more controversial tactics and discusses the difference between an exploit and creative use of game mechanics, as he had a bit of experience with the subject after being banned and unbanned for a solo kill he did (the 0.5 second Vectis kill).

There are some pretty cool discoveries he had to make about the boss mechanics to pull it off so it's definitely worth a watch:

Starting with next week's reset (March 31st/April 1st), all Legion instances will be getting legacy loot rules, aka more loot drops for when there's fewer players. This means you'll be getting random loot not specific to your class, but there will be plenty more of it for those transmog runs.

Check out the full explanation below:
      Legion Legacy Loot (source)
With scheduled weekly maintenance the week of March 31, we’re enabling Legacy loot rules in Legion raids and dungeons.
We’re reached that point in an expansion where the content from the previous expansion no longer requires a full group, and the rewards are primarily sought by transmog collectors. With this change, Legion raid and dungeon encounters will drop a fixed quantity of class-agnostic loot. Today, if you and one other player enter Emerald Nightmare on Mythic difficulty and kill Nythendra, it’s unlikely that you’ll receive any loot, since drop rates normally scale to the number of players. After this change, Nythendra will always drop 5 items from her loot table, regardless of your group size.
Dungeons and many of the lower-difficulty raid bosses in Legion are already soloable by well-equipped Battle for Azeroth characters, though some bosses, especially on Mythic difficulty, may still require you to bring a few friends. Nonetheless, this should amount to a great increase in the availability of Legion transmog gear.
      See you there!
