D.Va's rework is complete from a design perspective, but there are still some art/sound/UI things that need to be addressed before the rework is released.

When is D.Va's rework happening?

Unfortunately, we don't have a date to share with you all yet. While the design side of D.Va's rework might be winding down, there's still art/sound/UI and other miscellaneous work that has to be addressed before we're ready to get this into your hands. We will let you all know as soon as we can ?

Based on the Developer AMA from July 2019, she can opt into a solo-laner bruiser build, a team-support front-liner build and a pretty ridiculous self-destruct/pilot build, with lots of interactions between these options. The devs also briefly outlined some changes to her abilities and talents:

  • Her Mech ModeMech Mode will only suffer a Movement Speed reduction while Basic Attacking or channeling an ability, not at all times.
  • Defense MatrixDefense Matrix can be retargeted with a short cooldown while it's active.
  • Big ShotBig Shot [R2] is now baseline in Pilot mode. D.Va has a new Heroic Ability called Micro Missiles.

I'm really curious to see what Blizzard has in mind for D.Va, but I'm more excited to see the reworked Tassadar.

Color me intrigued. I think D.Va in her current incarnation is a strong contender for least entertaining character in the game. I can overlook her being annoying as hell, but not being boring to play.

I wonder how micro missiles are going to work in this game. Makes sense to make big shot a baseline for pilot, having to choose between heroic available only in one mode felt weird.

And it made whatever you chose to have a severe downside of having no possible uptime for half (or more) of the match. Plus if you picked Big Shot you wanted to try to get your mech destroyed so you could actually get some use out of your Ult. Additionally both her Ults felt lackluster. Her Mech Detonation feels more like her REAL Ult. So now you'll have a Ult to use at all times once you hit 10. Which will feel SO much better. I assume and really hope that Big Shot will automatically upgrade to PewPewPew! at 20 as well.

This. This is why I hoped for a Raynor rework, and that worked really well. I've played some D.va, and there's real question in my mind about how you're supposed to have impact on the game. She has one big scary but heavily telegraphed attack, one support ability, and one mobility ability. As is, she almost feels more like a support character, she's so reliant on others to make the most of her abilities; Defense Matrix is best when it's allowing someone else to stay in the fight, and she needs to coordinate to make the most of Self-Destruct. Sometimes you feel like you get the most done in Pilot Mode with Big Shot, which... is not really a good look for the character.

D.Va at her current state is pretty much a character made to be annoying. I wouldn't say she fulfills the role of a Bruiser as her damage output is not really impressive, nor has a kit tailored for a Support character. She is just made to be a big zoner on map objectives with her Self-DestructSelf-Destruct.

I really wanna see what the devs will do with her rework to give her a more defined role and feel more impactful in the matches rather than just... Being there. A character that had a similar treatment was Stitches. Before his rework he was just a damage sponge; now he is a damage sponge with more utility and damage.

In Storm League, rank is always updated by taking the change in rating and determining the equivalent number of rank points to reward. While the Heroes team is quite happy with how it turned out, the system is causing problems in Bronze 5.
In Bronze 5, players gain/lose far fewer points per game than players in other leagues and divisions. The underlying problem makes it harder to climb out of Bronze 5 and causes frustration and bad gameplay experience. The team is working on ways to improve it and provided an explanation of why this is happening.
      Blizzard (Source)
With the launch of Storm League season 1 we have seen a dramatic improvement in rank distribution. One of the primary changes in this release was in how rank is determined. In the past, rank and rating were two entirely different concepts, both of which were updated differently after each game. It was very common for a player's rank and rating to diverge throughout each season which could cause the matchmaking system to struggle to find games.
With the changes introduced this season, rank is always updated by taking the change in rating and determining the equivalent number of rank points to reward. This leaves very few ways rating and rank can diverge and results in most players being shown a number equivalent to their rating.
Overall, we are very happy with how the changes are looking; however, we are aware of the inconsistencies players are currently experiencing in Bronze 5. With the new design, players in Bronze 5 will gain/lose far fewer points per game than players in all of the other leagues and divisions. The reason for this is a bit technical but we wanted to take the opportunity to elaborate on what's going on.
Under the hood, matchmaking rating is simply a number on a bell curve. Every league and division encompasses a range of values on the same curve. For example, if the overall bell curve ranges from -10.0 to 10.0 and the range 1.0 to 1.5 maps to Gold 1, then a player with a rating of 1.25 will have the equivalent rank of Gold 1 & 500/1000 points. These numbers are intentionally made up as the real ones are always subject to change but the idea is the same.
The reason for the decrease in points awarded in Bronze 5 is that the range of ratings that maps to Bronze 5 is much larger than other divisions. The difference is that this much larger range of ratings still maps to the same number of rank points. As a result, despite being rewarded the same change in matchmaking rating, the rank points awarded may be lower. This is visualized by the graph below:
We understand that this inconsistency is a negative experience for players so we will be exploring some ways to improve it.
Thanks for participating in Storm League and providing your feedback!
