Frozen Orb - Optimal use

Frozen Orb is one of our major DPS cooldowns and I'm wondering if I use it to its full potential in Single Target Fights. The description of the spell is very inconclusive (or even uncorrect) from my point of view:

"Launches a Frozen Orb forward from the Mage's position, releasing Frostbolts deal .... to all nearby targets for 10 Seconds. Grant the Mage 1 charge of Fingers of Frost when it first reaches a target".

It doesn't say how far it travels nor the range of "nearby targets". Additionally it grants more then 1 FoF (I guess one is guaranteed when the first target is hit and a chance of x% for FoF for every following hit).

Can anyone give me exact numbers on travelling distance, range of frozen orbs frostbolts and the chance for FoF procs on follwoing hits?

I think I loose a lot of FoF Procs because I'm standing to far away (or to near) to a boss when using Frozen Orb.

Which is the opimal distance in relation to the hitbox of a boss?

I hope this wasn't covered before. If I was to stupid to use the search function correctly flame me and close this topic ;)

It travels up to 40 yards. When it hits a target it will stop there. The orb's frostbolts' range is the range of the animation normally, though I cannot give you exact number. But I would say approximately 10-15 yds.

One FoF charge is guaranteed when it hits a target for the first time, and all following FoFs has 15% chance to proc per hit. Frozen orb can hit unlimited number of enemies at the same time, so if there are 10 mobs in the Frozen Orb you will get FoF proc spam most of the times.

That being said, when you cast Frozen orb the 10 seconds duration starts. So, the most optimal use of it would be from melee range, whee you don't waste its duration on travel time. (a bit further for melee range, so the orb won't go through the enemies.... :D)

I hope I answered all of your questions. :)

I hope I answered all of your questions. smile.png

Yes you did. Even the ones I didn't post. Response time: 8 Minutes. I'm deeply impressed :) Keep up the good work!

PS: One question though. I tried to research this myself, where did you get that information? Am I to stupid to use google or the forum's search function?

      <Continuum> - [Chamber of Aspects][H] are recruiting!
      Current Progress: 5/11 Mythic Antourus
We are a close knit and friendly community with an aim to push content. To our members we offer a mature environment, where people from all backgrounds can come together and play.
We are looking for dedicated and reliable players that want to play the best of their ability and succeed while enjoying the game. We have an active Discord community and chatty members that play various games together! As well as raiders, we also accept social players that just want to play in an active environment with a good atmosphere.
Looking towards Battle for Azeroth, we will be raiding as soon as possible and aiming for curves and mythic content. We do frequent Mythic+ dungeons as a guild as well as classic raids, older tiers and achievement runs.
Our Leadership team is made up of many long time players that have extensive experience in all aspects of the game, especially in raiding.
What we expect from our raiders:
-Preparation: Know your class / spec well and come to raid prepared with knowledge of tactics and boss abilities - Raid  awareness is important.
-Attendance: We ask our raiders to be reliable and the ability to have high raid attendance is essential.
-Attitude: Be patient, progression raiding can be both time consuming and frustrating. Don't blame people as it won't  really help anyone and be able to admit mistakes.
Raiders can expect a focused raiding atmosphere, especially during progression content. We show NO favoritism, everyone must perform.
When applying to the guild your logs will be taken into consideration and a trial period will apply.
We use Discord and the ability to listen in raids is mandatory - a working mic is beneficial but not essential. We are an English speaking guild, so a basic knowledge of English is required.
We are always on the look out for new raiders - all roles and specs are considered!
(It is an advantage for Healers to have a DPS offspec)

      Raid Schedule:
Wednesday, Sunday and Tuesday - Start 20.00 - Finish 23.00 Server time
      (Grouping at 19.45)
Optional; Saturday - Start 20.00 - Finish 23.00 Server time

Hi everyone. I just killed HC Varimathras and I was surprised by my low damage. There was not second time warp because we used the first one at 20% HP but I think I should get higher numbers. Can anyone tell me what did I do wrong? Was it really only in TW? I do not think so :/.

I have a question for Arcane mages that I couldn't find existing guides mention on any website. In dungeons, mana is not typically an issue as a healer because you can just drink/eat in between packs, I mained a healer up until now so that mindset is just ingrained in me. As Arcane Mage, would the same principle apply? Is it optimal to just forgo the conserve part of the rotation and just burn as much as you sustainably can with every  pack, since you can just eat conjured food in between packs, or should you still do conserve/burn phases similar to what you'd do in a raid?
      Thanks.

hello, so i am following this deck - https://www.icy-veins.com/hearthstone/elemental-mage-deck and i was wondering which card i should buy next and i dont have much dust left. I need the following cards
      Primordial Glyph x2
      Pyros x1
      Arcane Keysmith x2
      Blazecaller x2
      Frost Lich Jaina x1

I have 1945 dust left with the option to disenchant "Archmage Arugal" with a total of 2345, because i dont use it, nor do i know if its any good?

I can either go with x2 Primordial as the guide says this is needed for the deck + x2 Blazecaller for late and x1 Arcane Keysmith? but then  i wont have the pyros for early or Jaina for late.

Or i can go balls out buying x1 Frost lich jaina and x1 primordial glyph ? / Or just Pyros and x1 Primordial. I dont know.

My last scenario is buying Frost lich jaina and x1 primordial by selling some rare cards, then use "Archmage Arugal" instead of Pyros for the time being and combo it up with AI for 2 extra cards, and hope its something good.

      any help is grately appreciated.
