Patch 8.3 Zones Don't Require BfA Pathfinder for Flying

Recommended Posts

Good news if you haven't unlocked Battle for Azeroth Pathfinder, Part Two Battle for Azeroth Pathfinder, Part Two yet! Assaults in Visions of N'Zoth are tied to the Vale of Eternal Blossoms and Uldum, so you won't need BfA flying to fly there.

Uldum and the Vale of Eternal Blossoms will be periodically under attack by N'Zoth's forces and the main objective of an Assault is to complete World Quests, kill enemies, and interact with various game objects to fill the bar to 100%, kill an Elite and drive the forces back.

Assaults take place in the marked area on the map as depicted below on the map of Uldum. The good news is that Uldum does not require BfA Pathfinder, because the zone was added back in Cataclysm.

The same applies to the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. The zone was added in Pandaria, so you will be able to fly there without BfA Pathfinder Pt. 2.

Argus, the end-game zone of Legion introduced in Patch 7.3, was not designed for flying, even though players were able to unlock it in Patch 7.2 (Broken Isles Pathfinder, Part Two Broken Isles Pathfinder, Part Two). Thumbs up to Blizzard for not following the same trend in Visions of N'Zoth and making old zones relevant again.

Flying Restrictions

Both zones are getting the Mechagon treatment in terms of flying. Great Worms From Beyond roam the skies and emanate Foul Stench From Beyond Foul Stench From Beyond.

If you get within 200 yards, you will be affected with Great Worm's Foul Stench Great Worm's Foul Stench, a stacking debuff that reduces your flying speed by 30% per stack for 3 minutes, stacking up to 11 times. If you enter the worm's melee range, you will be one-shotted.

WoWScrnShot_121719_131950.jpg

You can interact with most of the Assault objectives on your flying mount without mobs actually attacking you, so it's nice to see Blizzard balance things out a bit. What do you think?

In other news, water is wet?

Slow day in the office this close to Christmas eh?

I take that back somewhat, the worm part was indeed somewhat newsworthy

Would have been weird if they locked it out for these zones. Interesting bit about worm though, didn't know that. I guess it will kinda force players to stay more on the ground, unless it can be removed quickly by dying or dispel.

I kind of like the idea that, if you choose to fly and bypass terrain, you put yourself at a gambling risk.

I would prefer if in future expansions, they allow you to fly right at max level right away, but with the sky filled with dangers, so it becomes a risk/reward thing.

A man can dream.

This, I like to bring Storm Peaks as good example of zone designed with flying in mind. Add some dangers to it, maybe some form of aerial combat as well. WotLK even had aerial combat over Wintergrasp on it's box. ? Would like to see flying mounts utilised in a fun way.

They could remove the whole achievement entirely, grinding like crazy for the rep is kinda dumb, i mean doing the exploration, quest achievements is understandable and fine, but the rep??? makes no sense.

That would be great. To be honest all they need to do is to remove the reputation farming from gating flying. That is honestly unnecessary. Just allow players to unlock flying after they've done all the quests and explored all the zones. Makes flying itself more rewarding because you experienced everything on land that the developers crafted with such care and thought.

Precisely. I'd love to see them adding more zones with flying in mind. Make flying more impactful and relevant other than just faster and easier movement.

We've all seen the giant Hallowfall crystal and just how great it looks, but as it turns out, the light emanating from it actually changes in a sort of strange day/night cycle, and we get a really awesome transition into Void light animation!
First off we can see a snippet of the change in Blizzard's official short preview of the zone:
And then there's this extended look at the switch, showcasing just how impressive the animations are, by PreachGaming's Chunkeyninja:
And here's a slightly better look at the Void to Light transition, courtesy of Kexman:
The exact timing on the cycle isn't 100% clear, but MrGM noted how it works on the Alpha right now, with a 3 hour cycle, as the Void part remains active for 30 minutes:

Hopefully we'll also get some lore to go with the transition, as the light into void thing is pretty thematically interesting, as well as being really visually impressive.
