A new Heroes of the Storm balance update has hit the Nexus! Varian can now be selected in ARAM games and Xul has been reworked to better embrace the Diablo Necromancer fantasy. His Spectral Scythe will spawn Skeletal Warriors that explode when they die, and more.

Developer Comment: Arthas is slightly underperforming compared to other Warriors, so we’re giving him a small baseline Health buff which we feel is appropriate since he doesn’t have the mobility that a lot of other Warriors bring to the table. We’ve also taken a look at his Level 20 talents and beefed them up all be much more epic.

While we believe he’s in a more healthy spot overall, we understand how players miss the unique role he had as a tank who had the ability to burst down enemies who are out of position. We’re giving a little bit of that back in the form of a baseline buff to Shadow ChargeShadow Charge so that he can have some of that fantasy back no matter how players choose to build him.

Developer Comment: Rexxar’s ability to win the laning phase on point control maps is a little too powerful, so we’re nerfing his ability to keep Misha alive. To compensate him for this nerf, we’re increasing his Basic Attack damage, which will both help him in latter parts of the game and make the early game more about how well he can work with Misha to outtrade the enemy Hero. We’re hoping that this leads to more interaction in the laning phase, with fewer instances of Misha being able to stand on a point for prolonged periods of time while the opposing hero is unable to push her off. We know there is a fine line between keeping his unique role on these maps and feeling too oppressed when playing against him, so we’ll be keeping an eye on these changes and will tune as necessary going forward.

Developer Comment: Xul’s rework has arrived! Our goal with these changes is primarily to make him feel more like a Diablo Necromancer, and to make his Skeletons a larger part of his kit outside of their pushing potential. Xul now has the ability to spawn Skeletal Warriors in combat via Spectral ScytheSpectral Scythe, and they now explode for damage when they die, giving enemy Heroes a reason to stay away from them while they mow them down. We also updated Xul’s talents to embrace this fantasy, with many options to use Skeletons as a mechanism to deliver various buffs to Xul and debuffs to the enemy team. We had a blast testing him, and hope you enjoy him as much as we have!

We originally intended it to be this way to separate it a bit from other similar mechanics and to give opponents a reliable way to counter it, but found that it ended up being less fun and interesting overall. Because of this, we’re adding the ability for Kerrigan to cancel the effect early.

Developer Comment: We’re making this change to reduce the amount of time that The Butcher has to commit to a charge before he can cancel it. Currently there is an awkward time where he charges and may want to cancel it as soon as possible, but he is forced to move a fair amount forward before he can cancel his charge. To make this feel more responsive, we’re reducing this window of time.

While this was largely successful, we underestimated how much more powerful Ace In The HoleAce In The Hole would become compared to the new, buffed alternatives. We’re lowering its damage a bit to compensate for the Slow that it gained, which should make the tier more even overall.

Looks like a huge buff for Xul. Raynor's slight nerf is understandable, as this talent is very easy to proc, with slow baked into it. Still no Tassadar and D.va reworks. I wonder how much longer it's going to take.

Xul looks OP as hell using skeletons, *filtered*. Not gonna stop me from abusing this in Brawl though. There is no guilt in it as opposed to regular and quick match play since its such a short and messy version of the game. :p

The following Summoned Units now lose health each second: Demon Lieutenants, Demon Warriors, Gargantuan, Hydralisks, Roaches, Rock-It Turrets, Rush Zombies, Scarabs, Treants, Tumors, and Water Elementals. Total Health and Duration of these Summoned Units have been adjusted to compensate for this. Structures now prioritize Summoned Units when there are no remaining minions. Summoned Units no longer take half damage from Structures. XP Globe pickup sound is now also played when killing a minion that instantly yields XP. Updated Homescreen and Startup Music. Return to Top

      Players will now receive an announcement when a quest milestone is reached. This will only announce to the player who achieved the milestone. Ranges of abilities on numerous Heroes have been updated to be more consistent. This may cause certain abilities ranges to reduce or increase.       Map Updates
      General A new Fallback Tower has been added to the longer lanes on each of the following battleground maps. This new tower will die when its corresponding Fort dies: Alterac Pass, Battlefield of Eternity, Blackheart's Bay, Braxis Holdout, Cursed Hollow, Dragon Shire, Garden of Terror, Hanamura Temple, Infernal Shrines, Sky Temple, Tomb of the Spider Queen, Volskaya Foundry, and Warhead Junction. Attacks from the Core, Keeps, Forts, Fallback Towers, and Towers near Keeps will now reduce Hero armor, and the reduction has been increased from -10/-20 Armor to -20/-40 Armor. Fallback Towers have the same HP and Attack Damage as Keep Towers. Forts, Keeps, and the Core will no longer grant Allied Heroes that take damage in their radius 35 Armor for 4 seconds. The comeback system has been slightly magnified, particularly at wide level gaps. Alterac Pass Objective capture timer reduced by 5 seconds in each phase. The first phase only spawns a single defending unit. Cavalry now gain more health in the later stages of the game. Cavalry now take 60% damage from structures (up from 50%). Braxis Holdout Early objectives have lowered in health by 15%, but scaling has been increased significantly after 15 minutes. Garden of Terror Garden Terror health scaling increased. Garden Terror structure disabling plant bulb now damages itself at 10% per second (up from 6%). Infernal Shrines Early objectives have lowered in health by 15%, but scaling has been increased significantly after 15 minutes. Warhead Junction Nuke damage has been changed to flat, scaling damage. Scaling is updated when a Warhead is picked up. Nukes now deal double damage versus Forts, Keeps, and the Core. Return to Top

At 45 hits, gain an additional 75% damage and reduce the cooldown by 2 seconds. Pinnacle Reward: At 75 hits, Lightning Rod provides 2 additional strikes and Stuns for 1.25s on its last strike. Frequent Flyer REWORK: Reduced attack speed bonus from 40% to 25%. Now provides 1 stack per minion and 5 stacks per Hero. At 50 stacks, gain 20 Attack Damage. At 125 stacks, gain an additional 50 Attack Damage. Pinnacle Reward: At 300 stacks, gain an additional 125 Attack Damage. Gathering Storm REWORK: Bonuses are now provided at 30/80/150 stacks, rather than incremental gains. At 30 stacks, gain 30% damage. At 80 stacks, gain an additional 50% damage. If Overkill is active when there are no possible targets, Overkill will no longer be cancelled, and instead will start firing in the direction of the last primary target. Fixed an issue that caused mounting to not interrupt Overkill. Valla Base Hatred [D] Fixed Hatred Tooltip.
