How to Easily Solve Torghast Puzzle Chests

Rune and Lever Locked Chests in Torghast are the bane of existence for some players, so here's an easy way to solve them.

Lever Locked Chests

lever-locked-chest-small.jpg

To solve the puzzle, you must figure out the correct position of all 4 levers. There are just 16 possible combinations. Reddit user Training-Price created a binary notation of it.

  • 1 is a lever in an "on" position.
  • 0 is the "off" position.

Trying these combinations will solve the puzzle and open the chest.

Rune Locked Chests

This puzzle is a bit more complex than the first one, but the mechanic is still pretty straightforward. Each Rune Locked Chest has 4 chains, and each chain will go away when the rune beneath it is set to the proper one. However, clicking some runes will change the runes in other columns, including the one you clicked.

For every chest,

  • 1 rune will change the value of all 4 runes
  • 1 rune will change the value of 3 runes
  • 1 rune will change the value of 2 runes
  • 1 rune will change itself.

To solve the puzzle, you must figure out which runs affect 4/3/2/1 rune columns and click through them in that order, stopping at the rune that removed the chain for each. When you get to the last rune that only affects itself, click through it to remove the final chain, and you will solve the puzzle.

TL;DR: Start from the rune that changes all of them and work your way down.

Solving both puzzles grants you an Anima Power.

I never thought about that in numbers. I just listened to a "unlocksound" hitting the correct lever somehow.

For the binary puzzle there's a simpler method that does the same thing.  Just click through the switches in this order -- 1 2 1 3 1 2 1 4 1 2 1 3 1 2 1 .  No need to hit the fourth lever a second time as one possible solution is in place based on original lever settings.  15 clicks max; no shorter way to do it without knowing the combination.

For the lever chest, I read on WowHead that it does not matter which end you start with or what was previously done to the levers, if you number the levers 1 2 3 4, always go in the same direction, and click the levers in the following order

[ 121312141213121 ]

you will open the chest. This has always worked for me and I do not always have to go through the full sequence of numbers for it to work.

I didn't know this info was already posted. I clicked reply to the first post.

We have a very Dracthyr-looking piece of concept art from way back pre-Vanilla, as xperio28 spotted a bulkier version of the new race coming in Dragonflight in the Art of World of Warcraft book!
There's been a lot of talk about the look of the Dracthyr, mostly focusing on their size and bulkiness, and while the art below almost certainly isn't of this specific race, as it was made pre-Vanilla WoW, it's looking very similar:

      Source: xperio28.
The text is very hard to make out, but enigmapenguin and YendorWons in the thread may have figured it out, at least partially:
Greater whelp grown to man size will hunt other dragon whelps then larger dragons feed on The whole "feed on" aspect is particularly interesting, as there's plenty of speculation going around on whether or not Galakrond, the OG dragon-eater will have something to do with Dragonflight's story (especially with the potential for the Infinite dragonflight's involvement).
We've have plenty of bipedal dragon-like creatures in WoW over the years so the connection isn't direct, but it is interesting to see how far back the idea of playable-looking dragon race goes, especially since we know the original plan was to have many more playable races, including naga.
