The Community's Concerns With Mythic+ Rewards

Recommended Posts

While the new Shadowlands dungeons are great, the community thinks that rewards that come from the mode are underwhelming.

Not only do Mythic+ dungeons offer less loot compared to Battle for Azeroth, but they also reward too little Anima, according to the community.

You spend at least 30 minutes completing a Mythic+ run, and you get 35 Anima, whereas a world quest that takes a few minutes to complete gives you 100 Anima.

PC Gamer talked to Game Director Ion Hazzikostas about dungeon and raid rewards in Shadowlands.

Quote

We significantly reduced the rate at which players earn item rewards, but at the same time also stripped away randomness and tried to give everyone more clear goals to pursue and control over their progress towards them. When it comes to PvP itemization specifically, we're really happy with how that's playing out, but we think we can do more to make the experience of running dungeons and raids feel more satisfying when you don't get a specific item you were hoping for.

Ion Hazzikostas

Game Director

Ion agreed they need to make dungeons and raids feel more satisfying, and it seems we might see some buffs in the future, but will that happen sooner than 9.1? With Blizzconline just a month away, chances are Blizzard will reveal what's coming in Patch 9.1 along with the improvements to rewards on February 18.

What do you think about Mythic+ rewards? Are they worth the effort?

Well obviously world quests are gonna offer more because you can't keep spamming the same world quest over and over again. It makes sense they limit the amount of ap given in Dungeons because people spam m+.

You spam them, but you can clear a whole zones dailies in the same time as most M+, especially if you count the time to form pug groups. It would be more accurate to compare the +/- 500 anima you gain in a zone daily to the M+. So 105 (3 @ 35) doesn't seem like a silly amount to offer for your time. World quests still offer far more for your hour of time, but it's at least closer.

I think it's good they're looking for rewards that aren't just gear. I think it needs a little more gear to drop, maybe a rolling certainty like you WILL get loot every 5 mythic+, similar to other systems in Over Watch and Hearthstone "loot crates" because that's about what the end of a mythic+ feels like now is a loot crate, but just throwing drops at us that are worthless isn't the answer either. Maybe they can give a piece of a reroll, so every 5 times you can "roll again" on the chest to try and get a drop or 2nd drop if it's a place you need a specific piece from.

I think getting 10 anima per level of mythic dungeon would be good compromise. 10 on m0, 100 on m+ 10, 150 for m+ 15, etc. Not sure what would they should do with raid rewards, but 35 anima per boss on LFR, +15 for each tier upwards (35, 50, 65, 80) seems reasonable. And buffing TW raids loot amount, as for the difficulty of those raids, rewards from them are pitiful. Or at least add achievements for completing those TW raids. As they are now, there is literally no reason for average player why to run them.

Would rather more loot drop in Raids and in Mythic+ imo than more currency.  In Raid groups of 15-20 people you are basically crossing your fingers and praying that an item you can use will drop per boss kill.  If not you wait and try again next week, then the next, and the next, and etc.  No bonus rolls this expansion just a consolation of 35 anima that is basically used for Covenant themed xmog, pets, and mounts and extra perks; not for Player growth or Player progression.

However I don't want to see a new currency with exorbitant price tags on items like it was for BFA Azerite Gear either.  But I guess we will wait to see what Blizzards' 'solution' will be for this expansion.

100% Blizzard's intended result.  Anima and loot will be increased as the expansion goes on as catchup mechanics.  We're always the guinea pigs in the first patch.

To reply to pvper I would like to watch you spend 100’s of thousands of gold in consumables to get a few hundred anima every week there’s no need to be dickhead it’s completely understandable for people that do every bit of content to feel rewarded so you don’t have to be a *filtered*

m+ loot underhwelming... what about raid then? clearing the raid gives you a 207 item.. at most, doing a shitty +5 key gives you 210 .. makes no sense at all, stupid m+ gets so overrated and people still crying..

World quests are actually more varied in their rewards and don't always include a chance to offer four anima items. Unless you are including "challenges" and world bosses, its justified that WQ give more than another piece of content that is consistent and always drop anima power.

Then there is no need for the weekly rewards? This system has been in place since Legion, and expanded upon greatly. I haven't had any issues with gear with M+ at all. Honestly if you implement rerolls it would be bringing back an RNG system that no one enjoyed. Sure you have a chance to roll gear, but it feels bad to get a piece of loot that doesn't really improve anything. Especially for endgame when targeting stats is very important for specs, hence why the great vault exists. Also how easy would it be to break the "do 5, get one reroll". Players would spam the easiest lowest keys possible then do a high key to get a chance of extra loot. Thus breaking the loot system for m+. The fact that you have to put in work for dungeons to get mythic level gear is great, because it still keeps mythic raiding relevant with the addition of m+ providing alternative methods to obtaining loot that isn't as powerful but still great compared to Mythic raiding.

Also, anima power doesn't really contribute to player power anyways. So the fact that people are complaining about anima power is kinda funny. The real issue lies in the gearing for pvp in which you can obtain 220 and 226 gear easily. But no one is raising any issues with that.

I am honestly beginning to wonder if people ONLY have 1 character that they play. Nobody has multiple alts? I have multiple alts and I am always finding things to do and ways to upgrade. Why the whining? Play more toons!

M+ are more fun and challenging then raids, and the loot you mentioned is only for weekly run. End run still give way lower ilvl items then a raid, so stop crying. You can do a HC raid where if your dumb your guild still boost your *filtered* and you still can get a loot. While in m+ if someone is dumb the party usually is disbanded after the first pull or boss fight.

Honestly, M+ and Raiding both need a bar that works like Conquest. A reward gate that lets Blizzard limit how much stuff we can acquire through spamming while also allowing gameplay to be rewarding up to that weekly maximum. It's worked REALLY well for PvP; the PvP players talk about how great it is all the time.

The biggest challenge I see with trying to gear up for PvE raids through M+ is gearing through PvP is far more efficient: it is deterministic, and therefore respects the player's time. More pulls on the slot machine each week with the Great Vault is not a deterministic way to power up a character; it improves the odds that a player will receive an upgrade though not necessarily the upgrade that player is after. It's not a well designed system; it won't take more than a few upgrade-less weeks in a row for players to lose interest, and this situation will occur more frequently as the patch drags on.

I'm trying to gear up an enny shaman, and for THREE WEEKS there hasn't been a single WQ for Enhancement weapons--now I've gotten offered caster maces plenty, and I'm gearing up using alt methods (pvp), but if I was a casual that'd be *filtered*

Dragonflight Season 4 starts today, check out our updated to-do list to find out what's new!
      New Content Available This Week
Awakened Raids are now available! The first Awakened raid this week is Vault of the Incarnates! Proiritize clearing Vault for Season 4 loot and your first Antique Bronze Bullion. The first Catalyst charge is available today, but make sure to use it after you clear Awakened Vault to see how many tier set pieces you've acquired after your run. The final boss drops an omnitoken that all classes can roll for. Killing the final boss on Heroic Difficulty yields a token that you can exchange for 1 class set piece. Click here to learn more about Awakened Class Set acquisition methods! The item level of loot from all sources has gone up by +39 item levels in Season 4. Time Rifts, Fyrakk Assaults, and Dreamsurges now all offer better loot, compared to Season 3. If you own Fyr'alath or Nasz'uro, you can upgrade the legendaries to their S4 base Item Level (502) using Scale of Awakening that costs 2 Antique Bronze Bullion, but you can only get 1 this week. You can still upgrade S3 gear, but you can no longer acquire S3 crests. New crests are available for gear upgrading. You will find the gear upgrading brackets in our guide. New rewards await in Mythic+ Season 4! The latest PvP season also introduces new rewards and better gear. This week's bonus event is Burning Crusade Timewalking You can clear dungeons to unlock slots in the Great Vault alongside Item Level 467 loot! Complete 5 Timewalking Quests for the weekly quest to receive 1 piece of item level 493+ loot. Clear Black Temple Timewalking forI Item Level 493 loot. DHs who earned both warglaives the regular way can now obtain the Weapon Arsenal from Illidan which lets them use the legendaries for transmog. Thanks to the increased reputation buff, it's super fast this week to reach Revered with the Netherwing and add some cool mounts to your collection! In Shadowlands Season 4, we've seen Fated World Bosses, but it doesn't seem to be the case with Dragonflight Season 4, so it's not really worth killing World Bosses.

Here's a reminder for all Demon Hunters! Since it's Burning Crusade Timewalking you can earn Arsenal: The Warglaives of Azzinoth from Illidan if you earned the weapons the regular way!
Make sure to run Timewalking Black Temple on your Demon Hunter this week if you've unlocked the Warglaives of Azzinoth achievement with a character that can equip them.
You need to collect both warglaives to use them for transmog and to unlock the “I'll Hold These For You Until You Get Out” achievement.
Remember, achievement credit isn't shared across your account, so you must obtain both weapons with the same character.
If you haven't acquired the regular warglaives yet, now is a great time to start farming them. That way, you'll be prepared to grab the Arsenal at the next Burning Crusade Timewalking event.

It's super easy to go from Hated to Revered with the Netherwing faction during the Burning Crusade Timewalking event, and the reputation buff helps you unlock six awesome mounts fast!
Sign of the Twisting Nether is active this week and the buff increases Burning Crusade reputation gains from combat and quests by 50%, which means you can skip the tedious Netherwing grind.
Normally, you would go from Hated to Neutral with the Netherwing faction upon completing the questline that unlocks the faction.
With Sign of the Twisting Nether, you will go from Hated straight to Revered! If you haven't done the questline yet, now's the best time to do so!
Where to Start the Netherwing Questline?
You can start the questline at the crystals south of Warden's Cage in Shadowmoon Valley, where you must talk to a High Elf quest-giver named Mordenai wandering around the crystals. You will find more information here.
At Exalted with the Netherwind faction, you will receive one Netherwing mount for free and can buy the rest for 200 Gold from the vendor in Shattrath City.
The available mounts are listed below:
Reins of the Azure Netherwing Drake Reins of the Cobalt Netherwing Drake Reins of the Onyx Netherwing Drake Reins of the Purple Netherwing Drake Reins of the Veridian Netherwing Drake Reins of the Violet Netherwing Drake Here's a screenshot to better illustrate their appearance.

Season 4 has partially started on NA servers, as players are noticing elements of the new season popping up. This is actually planned and was announced by Blizzard, as you can see below, but players were not expecting this much to change before the reset.
      Season 4 (Source)
Dragonflight Season 3 will be ending April 22 at 10:00 p.m. PDT, the night before the regularly scheduled maintenance, with Dragonflight Season 4 beginning immediately following on April 23. The blue post indicated that the season should start soon after, on the 23rd, which presumably means after the weekly reset. Here are some of the things that have already changed.
Players have been reporting various aspects of the season being in-game, starting with Season 3 items now being marked as legacy, with a grey tooltip, as spotted by Strosts:

      Source.
Crests and Flightstones have also been reset, with new ones dropping from World Quests.
Catalyst charges are also now in Season 4 mode, as spotted by lemoncocoapuff.

We have four new zones coming in the War Within, but just how large are they, all told? We have a few community members showing their relative sizes off, comparing to various other expansion landmasses, which we'll be taking a look at today.
First of all, the new expansion has one above-ground zone and three below, as the Isle of Dorn is our gateway into the three underground zones. This is best showcased by Sturtime2, who broke the Dragonflight and War Within zones down (with Zaralek, Emerald Dream and Forbidden Reach all being post-expansion launch zones):

      Source.
Now that we have a better idea of the War Within zone structure, we have a more visually direct comparison by CygnetFR, who also added Kul Tiras in there for comparison:

      Source.
And finally we have another Dragon Isles comparison, only this time with the Easern Kingdoms thrown in, courtesy of keyboardturn:
