Blizzard Replaced the Word "Blacklisted" with "Blocklisted" in Their Code

Recommended Posts

In the latest Patch 9.1.5 build, Blizzard replaced the word "blacklisted" with "blocklisted" in their API Documentation code.

The source file in question is named "CommentatorFrameDocumentation.lua". It can be found in /Interface/Addons/Blizzard_APIDocumentation. This has been brought to our attention by Reddit user DutchChair, who posted a diff of both files on Reddit.

In their ongoing effort to remove inappropriate references from the game, in Patch 9.1.5 alone, Blizzard renamed multiple achievementsMac'Aree to Eredath, and desexualized some Vanilla paintings.

Its not racial reference, its color reference for F sake!
Will it be warchief Darkhand, Shady Market and Rainbow temple next time?

Wake up Blizz, this is not what people care about, they care about your team leaders social behavior at the workplace, not names of some ingame stuff!

This has been a thing in the tech industry for 2 years now (master and slave, for example, are also no longer used) and isn't unique to Blizzard.

In all fairness, they are located in California. PC is at an all time high over there... though this is just absurd on all fronts.

The term "blacklist" is an issue discussed in the industry:

This.  "Blacklist" is becoming "blocklist", "whitelist" is becoming "allow list"...this is not new or specific to Blizzard.  Simmer down.

Oh, AND let's keep in mind this is in API documentation, and not even code itself, and NOT actual live content.  This change ONLY affects developers. Players will literally never see this.  This is a total non-issue.

Next time players visit Block Temple there's a pleasant surprise waiting for them in the Den of Mortal Delights. Bananas, oranges, grapes, apples, mangos are just some of the new high resolution models that have permanently replaced all the humanoid ones. We have significanly reduced the chance Illidan will drop the Wargraves of Azzinoth and players will no longer be able to /spit on his corpse when he doesn't drop them. These are the kind of changes that make the game better and will bring WoW back to 12 million subs!

I remember reading something about removing "slave" and "master" commands as well. This has been an issue for a while, but I would say context matters, this is just going a bit too far.

Are they seriously going to rename Blackwing Lair/Descent too? Or change the whole black dragonflight too?

It's a timing thing I guess. They're doing this alongside all the other PC/unsexualisational stuff. Personally I don't understand it, the master/slave naming makes sense (as it was not the rename) since you have a master unit controlling all the others. Yeah it's a bit old fashioned but any idiot can understand it.

Will we be renaming black Friday too? Since afaik the naming is a similar reason to blacklist being what it is, colour of the text being reported.

I think y'all are defining the need for the term "woke".

We're not asleep anymore under the yoke. It's time. Wake up.

There's limits to how much people will accept at one time. Especially given the main consumer of the game will be cis white males, those least likely to understand or truly empathise with the issues since we don't see them often.

Indeed, but then again nothing fairness about that & no need to shoulder pat them :) Kinda same in California with SJW level being at Stratosphere altitude ^^ This text has black color just to show that i see black colored folks equal to other human skin colors :P If i would be big or small game developer i still wouldn't surrender to cries of pc or sjw's & do dumb things likes this ^^

^^ No doubt some of those come true in next half a year or so.. About people who care about these & just wanna whine for attention: They're mostly lost PC souls who can't think of normal way to spend their time.. All these past changes made since early this year's summer pile up to reasons why should not resub to World of Warcraft :/

I left Q1 this year & thought of returning on summer, but these things kept sending message to old Azeroth fan heart "Don't support these loonies until they come to their senses" :/ On these days i play mostly Hearthstone & Heroes of the Storm from Blizz's library. Yes i don't recognize Activision's adhd alley shooting games to be part of them. It's good that you can now hide them. I wonder what name changes they come up with in Hearthstone or Diablo games. *WTB Cryo Freeze until this absurd era is over & humanity is back to normal minds as it was back in -80's / early -90's. * Advice on attached image is the one that these lost souls should follow.

All the lost souls who whine to Blizz & ask them to change names should follow this advice..jpg

Instead of placing a character on an ignore setting the entire account with all associated characters will be automatically placed on the block list.  Basically keeping the ingame harassement via pm down to a mininum.  It's an upgrade feature not a downgrade.

Hirumaredx is back with another great video focusing on WoW's history, this time covering the life and death of 10-man competitive/maximum difficulty raiding and the lower player-count raid version in general. With the most difficult raiding being 20-man for quite a while now and Blizzard being pretty receptive to feedback, the topic of 10-man maximum difficulty raiding is a very interesting one to bring up, so let's take a look.
The main point coming across from the video is the fact that 10-man raiding for the hardest difficulty was much more popular than 25-man, as the video goes into the timeline of the addition of 10-man raids, the switch over to Mythic and addition of flex. Hirumaredx also talks about the reasons it was removed, from the balancing difficulty, to the weird raid compositions, the basically hand-me-down raid design, the top guilds not considering it where the real competition was at, how the mode could be brought back and much more.
It's very much worth a watch if you're even a little interested in WoW history or raiding!

Timebound Ruminations is a new item that you can purchase in Oribos to immediately grant your Companion 5,000 experience.
Patch 9.1.5 introduces a very useful way to catch up on Companion XP if you want to give Covenant Adventures a try or plan on switching to a different Covenant.
Timebound Ruminations can be purchased from Au'Dara a new Heirloom Vendor near the Flight Master in Oribos and costs 10,000 Reservoir Anima.

The item can be used on any Companion to grant them 5,000 XP. We tried upgrading Sika (Level 1) and the Companion went up straight to Level 14.

The item's also Bind-to-Account, meaning you can purchase it on one character and send it to another.

Patch 9.1.5 has been available for playtesting on the PTR for some time now, and with no release date set, we're speculating when the patch and 9.2 could hit live servers.
The last few 9.1.5 builds only contain minor updates to the game, which means we can now start speculating about the patch's release date.
As Tyrsenus points out, Shadowlands is 65 days behind schedule, and public testing averages anywhere between 60-80 days. Based on that information, we're likely to see Patch 9.1.5 hit live servers in early-to-mid November. It's also worth noting Blizzard put a placeholder date for Legion Timewalking to the in-game calendar on the PTR that reads November 2.
Patch 9.2 could hit PTR between January and mid-February, according to the player, with a release date slated between March and May 2021. Note that the article is based on the current cadence, and we might eventually see the updates go live earlier or even later, so take everything with a grain of salt.

      TL;DR
The likelihood of Patch 9.1.5 hitting live servers in early-to-mid November are high, and the predictions could be accurate. Everything related to Patch 9.2 are just wild guesses. Source: Reddit
