Diablo II: Resurrected, Blizzard Entertainment's faithful remaster of the classic that changed action RPGs forever, is now available globally on PC (Battle.net), Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.

IRVINE, Calif.—September 23, 2021—Diablo, The Lord of Terror, is clawing his way out of CRT monitors and onto HD screens everywhere. Available today, Diablo® II: Resurrected™ is the definitive remaster of Diablo IIand its Lord of Destruction® expansion. The genre-defining action-RPG has been faithfully modernized to be more stunning, more accessible, and more fun than ever before.

 

Designed to take full advantage of today’s modern gaming hardware, Diablo II: Resurrected supports up to 4K resolution* displays. It also includes fully remastered 7.1 Dolby Surround audio* so players won't miss a single bloodcurdling scream. All 27 minutes of the original game’s cinematics are also re-shot with stunning high-fidelity visuals. While considerable work went into bringing Diablo II into the modern era, preserving the authenticity of the experience was paramount—the original game engine is still running “under the hood,” performing the same calculations and game logic as it did back in the year 2000.

Developed by Blizzard Entertainment and in-house studio Vicarious Visions, Diablo II: Resurrected is reborn on Windows® PC via Battle.net®, and on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, and the Nintendo Switch™ system. With cross-progression, players can log into their Battle.net account on anywhere they have purchased the game for access to their characters and loot. To help bring Diablo II to more players than ever before, this remaster includes a wide array of accessibility and quality-of-life options. They allow players to fine-tune their experience without ever compromising its classic gameplay. These accessibility-focused improvements include:

 

• Controller support on all platforms
• Font scaling, colorblind modes, and readability options
• Emote wheel for faster communication
• Volume adjustment across a multitude of audio channels
• Auto-gold pickup
• Increased and shared stash 
• Extensive key-binding options, including a bindable ‘Interact’ hotkey on controllers, and more

 

Diablo II: Resurrected features seven iconic playable character classes. The Amazon, Barbarian, Necromancer, Paladin, and Sorceress each offer rich and varied gameplay. The Druid and Assassin from Lord of Destructionalso return, as ferocious and elusive as ever. The new 3D heroes have updated armor, clothing, skin textures, animations, and more. Playing Diablo 2 when I was 15 y.o. is one thing, but there is absolutely no way to enjoy such outdated and featureless gameplay in 2021. Casuals will satiate their nostalgia and forget about this game in a week, hardcore fans played the original one in 2021 even without the Resurrected stuff.

The beta was just as well visually pleasing as it was laggy and rubber-bandy.

Watching the cinematics brings up some interesting memories, but there's just no way I can find a reason to suffer through the slow and monotonous gameplay that has very limited variations and builds.  Together with my friends I wanted to re-live the nostalgia by spending a weekend to complete the game at least on normal, but this probably isn't going to happen. 

It's interesting how different people are. While I can't be bothered with the game I'm reading lots of comments about people "having goosebumps".

Still waiting. I´ve learned my lesson regarding Blizzard years ago... Will wait for more comments of players, if the "resurrection" is done well, and then decide.

This. Hype doesn't last for long, especially for remasters. Hardcores might still feel unsatisfied about some things. There were many players unhappy about lack of TCP/IP support, because they were using this feature to run servers for modded versions.

Also, looks like there are many server issues. Not surprising. This will eventually settle down in a few days. Just like with any remaster/re-release, it will likely turn into a ghost town in a few weeks.

Haven´t bought it yet and still deciding if I give it a try or not. From the reactions I read it still needs time and patches.

Of course D2 is stuff of legends, its a big part of my gamer-youth, I played it back then till my eyes bled....but I dont know if this feeling can be "resurrected". Or if the nostalgia just vaporizes after a week or two, because its just dont "feels right", if you know what I mean.

I'm still on the fence myself, will see how situation changes and if fixes are going to roll, people have to test last acts as well.

Most people are only going to play through game once, maybe do additional difficulties. There were complaints about D3 not having enough content, yet not that many were complaining about D2 (even though D2 had much less). Farm runes? Do Baal runs? There is only so much to do.
