With the Naxxramas wings all said and done, a lot of new events have happened to kick off using the new Naxxramas cards in conjunction with each other. Everything from new decks, new tournaments, and even new ways to compete with other players. The cards added by the Naxxramas adventure have opened up the game in a way that people have sorely wanted for a long time.

Today we are featuring three items that support this theme.

Hunter Zoo

This variant of Hunter Zoo comes from YoungSaint, a Russian streamer who was tired of his Rank 5 curse and decided to build a new deck with which to finally hit Legend. This deck plays similarly to Warlock Zoo, where you need to keep board control, do as much damage as possible to the enemy's face and then finish with spells. This deck caught my attention mainly because of its low dust cost (880 total dust) and as an alternative to the Warlock Zoo deck. For more information, this page contains a full deck list, description, and a video of YoungSaint’s Legend-clinching victory.

The deck list is as follows:

Naxxramas Speedrunning

Recently there has been an interest in Hearthstone speedrunning where players start from the beginning of the Naxxramas Adventure and defeat every normal boss as quickly as possible. The official rules are on the speedrun website which also show a leader board of the fastest recorded runs.

Speedrunning has been a competitive field for single player games for a very long time and now that Hearthstone has a single player game type with Curse of Naxxramas, it has taken a spot in the list of games to play. Currently there have only been recorded rankings for Normal mode bosses. Are you up for the challenge of Heroic Speedrunning?

Here is the video of the current top speed run by SpiritFryer, clocking in at 40 minutes and 9 seconds.

If you want to get started doing your own speed running, here is a list of software for you to get started. Let us know what you think of the video in the comments.

Results of VGVN Naxxramas Tournament #2

Over the past weekend, eight players were invited to the VGVN Naxxramas Tournament to compete for a $2,500 prize pool. There were two groups who competed, labeled as Group A and Group B. Group A, which competed Saturday, consisted of Amaz, ThijsNL, Hyped, and Haibara. Group B, which competed Friday, consisted of Realz, Trump, Kolento, and Xixo. The stream was featured on the OGON twitch channel, where you can find all the VoDs of the games.

The format of the VGVN was two 4-player round-robin groups with a Best of 5 in each match. Players brought four decks, with one being vetoed by the opponent. The top two of each group qualified for the Sunday bracket match which consisted of a 4-player single elimination, Best of 7, where each competitor brought 5 decks, one of which was vetoed by the opponent.

This tournament, although with very few competitors, brought a number of interesting games becasue of its format. The number of games made the tournament exciting to watch and brought deck-building challenges to each competitor as well as demanding plays to go for a win.

The result of the tournament are as follows:

Group A - August 30th

Name Match Record Game Record
Hyped 2 - 1 8-7
ThijsNL 2 - 1 8-7
Haibara 1 - 2 7 - 7
Amaz 1 - 2 6 - 8

Group B - August 29th

Name Match Record Game Record
Kolento 3 - 0 9 - 2
Trump 2 - 1 6 - 6
Xixo 1 - 2 4 - 6
Realz 0 - 3 4 - 9

Brackets - August 31st

Players also competed for, in addition to some money from the $2,500 prize pool, a spot in the Blizzcon Regional Qualifiers. This tournament is just a stepping stone for some of these individuals who have been trying for almost a whole year to secure a spot in the Blizzcon tournament.

In episode two of "What's the Move?" Aleco discusses an open-ended situation which doesn't have a clear answer.
In episode two of "What's the Move?" Aleco discusses an open-ended situation which doesn't have a clear answer.
We kicked off this new series by analyzing a tricky situation which had only one optimal line of play. In episode two we'll take a look at a very different kind of situation, one where there might not be a perfect move at all.
Please let us know in the comments what you would have done in this situation! One of the primary goals of this series is to foster improvement at Hearthstone by generating discussions. We would also love to hear your feedback on the video itself, as the series is still very new and has plenty room to improve on its format.

In the latest Hearthstone update, Blizzard made adjustments to several cards. The patch is now live now on desktop and it should become available on mobile devices in the coming hours.
Philosophy and reasons behind these changes can be found here.

A new Brawl has landed in the Tavern.
Just like with the previous expansions, it's time to try out the deck recipes of Knights of the Frozen Throne in this week's Tavern Brawl. The archetypes for each deck recipe are the following:
Druid: I guess the best name for this deck is Midrange Druid. It has Ultimate Infestation and Spreading Plague, so... PROFIT?! Deathrattle Hunter Elemental Mage Divine Shield Paladin Control Priest (you've probably seen variations of it in ladder) Jade Deathrattle Rogue Freeze Shaman Zoolock Control Warrior with Enrage minions This is a good opportunity to try out cards that you don't own. Good luck and have fun!

The balance patch is arriving in the beginning of the next week.
The wait is over! The anticipated card balance changes will arrive on September 18th and hopefully freshen up the meta a little bit. As the case always is with balance patches, for the next two weeks if you disenchant Spreading Plague and/or Murloc Warleader, you will get their full value in Arcane Dust.
      Daxxarri
In the recent Upcoming Balance Changes – Update 9.1 blog, we discussed the details and philosophy behind balance updates that are coming to several Hearthstone cards:

Innervate - Now reads: Gain 1 Mana Crystal this turn only. (Down from 2) Fiery War Axe - Now costs 3 mana. (Up from 2) Hex - Now costs 4 mana. (Up from 3) Murloc Warleader - Now reads: Your other Murlocs have +2 Attack. (Down from +2 Attack, +1 Health) Spreading Plague - Now costs 6 mana. (Up from 5)
This patch is currently targeted for September 18th PDT. Please note that updates for mobile devices may take a few additional hours to propagate.

Once these card changes are live, players will be able to disenchant cards that are not Basic (Murloc Warleader and Spreading Plague) for their full Arcane Dust value for two weeks. Basic cards cannot be disenchanted and will not be available for an Arcane Dust refund. (source)
