Season of Discovery Now Live

Recommended Posts

Sn-mka-obrazovky-2023-11-30-o-22-08-19.j

Season of Discovery is now live and here's Blizzard's official blog post for the update covering its main features like Rune Engraving.

In case you've missed it, we have a new Season of Discovery guide section on our site and we cover the specific guides in the following post.

Blizzard Logo(Source)

Season of Discovery is now live for World of Warcraft® Classic! The time has come to gather your friends, create a new character, and scour the lands of Azeroth to discover class-altering abilities, new endgame activities, and a new Rune Engraving system.

This Season brings an initial level cap of 25 and a new level-25 endgame, including a 10-player Blackfathom Deeps raid with new mechanics, new and reimagined bosses to challenge player tactics and strategies, and fresh rewards.

What's in Store

Discover Your Playstyle

Hidden throughout Azeroth are special runes waiting to be discovered. These runes can augment player characters in new and exciting ways by providing access to abilities not available in WoW Classic. Some runes will be in plain sight, others will be tucked away, and a few will require teamwork to access.

Freedom to Experiment

Rune engraving will allow players to apply and remove abilities at will as they experiment with different builds to create a truly unique play experience.

A New Approach to Endgame

Season of Discovery will start with an initial level cap of 25. Over time, the cap will incrementally increase to offer a more progressive endgame experience that will shift with each level band as new abilities become available for players during level-up.

Classic Dungeons Reimagined

Each phase's level cap will provide new content for players to experience, starting with the level 25 Blackfathom Deeps 10-player raid: formerly a level-up 5-player dungeon, it has been reworked with redesigned boss encounters to offer exciting challenges that will put players' builds to the test.

Put Your Builds and Skills to the Test

For players more interested in testing their builds and skills against others, there will be an outdoor PvP event in Ashenvale. Additionally, the Honor system and Battlegrounds will be available from day one.

Realms of Adventure Await

We've expanded the capacity of our realms for Season of Discovery to support more players. As a part of the initial launch, players may still experience some queues. We will be monitoring realm health and populations should additional realms be needed.

PvP realms, in particular, have been designed to maintain faction balance as they grow. To help maintain a regular balance between the factions, creating new characters in a more dominant faction may be temporarily limited on a specific realm until a closer equilibrium is reestablished. Please note that enforced faction balance and temporary character creation limitations will only be limited to PvP realms and will not affect PvE realms.

Getting Into Season of Discovery

To begin your new adventure, download and install the Battle.net desktop app. Access to Season of Discovery is available to all players with an active World of Warcraft subscription—no additional purchase is required. Players can subscribe by visiting the Battle.net Shop.

  1. Open the Battle.net desktop app and select World of Warcraft from the game selection menu. It may need to update itself if you haven't run it recently.
  2. Select World of Warcraft Classic. You'll see a second dropdown for Account if you have more than one World of Warcraft account and select the active account you wish to play on (first-time adventurers or those looking for a fresh start will need to create a new Battle.net account.
  3. Click the Install button. You'll see an installation progress bar showing you when the installation is available to play.
  4. Once the installation is complete, click the Play button.
  5. Select the Season of Discovery realm you want to play on, which will be identified in the Realm Selection tabs along with Classic and Hardcore.
  6. Select Create New Character to choose your faction, class, and race, then customize your character and name them.

For the best experience, make sure your graphics drivers are up to date—for the current system requirements for PC and Mac, visit our support page.

Learn more about what's next for the Season of Discovery in our latest WoWCast. We look forward to seeing what new adventures you undertake this Season!

I think retail would benefit from something new and refreshing like this. Doing new exciting things like this is what peaks interest, rather then doing the same old boring formula. Retail is fun, but being able to turn a dps class into a tank or healer would be pretty cool ngl!

The thing is, just about everything they've added is from retail and the things that aren't would throw the game even more out of whack than it already is in terms of balancing.

Working on a troll mage and have my first two runes as of level 9, Ice Lance and Fingers of Frost. Ice Lance is one every mage gets before leaving their starter zone, but Fingers of Frost comes from out in the world. There are some other differences, but it pays to play and "discover" them for yourself.

Blizzard shared a lot of details on the future of Season of Discovery today. Phase 3 will last longer than previous seasons, and while we didn't get a Phase 4 launch window, we did find out that it will get a limited PTR. This will be to test combat and classes specifically, with all runes unlocked and template level 60 characters ready, possibly even with tier set bonuses! We also found out that Phase 4 will have generally the same raid tiers and patch timing as original Classic did. There's also some buffs coming to Sunken Temple caster gear.

      Greetings,
The team has been hard at work on Season of Discovery and Cataclysm Classic. There’s a lot happening in Classic right now, and while we’ve been working incredibly hard, we’ve also been fairly quiet, so we felt it would be a good time to provide an update on a few things, including Season of Discovery Phase 4.
      Phase 4 Release Update
Cutting straight to it, and as you have no doubt likely noticed, the World of Warcraft team has been delivering a lot of exciting content lately, and this will (of course) continue well through the next few months and beyond. As such, to land Phase 4 at just the right time, our current phase (Phase 3) is going to last longer than previous Season of Discovery content phases. We can’t share Phase 4’s release date just yet, and we know this news and the longer Phase 3 may be disappointing to some, but our timeline will ensure that our Classic team delivers an experience worthy of our players at the high-quality bar we are setting for ourselves.
We’re so very excited to share what’s next with you.
We also want to make sure that we take the time we need to deliver equally awesome experiences in both Season of Discovery and Cataclysm Classic, and give Cataclysm Classic’s launch the time it deserves to breathe, without players feeling the pressure of needing to choose between it and all of the other fun things that are happening in WoW right now. We understand our players love to plan, so we wanted to signal our intentions now and let you know that we intend to share the exact timing of Phase 4’s launch, and start discussing what it will include, as early as it is possible to do so.
Please stay tuned for more information on Phase 4 coming soon.
      Phase 4 PTR Plans
In a departure from previous phases, we will spin up a limited PTR specifically focused on combat and class testing for Phase 4. We plan to include level 60 templates with all runes and abilities learned, and we tentatively plan to provide some sort of access to level 60 tier set bonuses. We also plan to provide access to training dummies and some raid content, as well as battlegrounds, so that players can test out their new builds. Again, our intent with this PTR is to focus on combat and class testing, and we will not be using it to test the unique content coming with Phase 4. We’ve received an enormous amount of class feedback from players, and we’re very excited for the level 60 runes to be discovered as well as our revamped tier sets.
We’re investing heavily into class adjustments going into Phase 4, and while perfect balance is not the goal, we do want to look at classes, specs, and runes that are underperforming and find opportunities to make as many improvements as we can. Many classes will see substantial redesigns going into the level 60 endgame, with some runes moving around and others becoming baseline skills. We’re excited for players to jump in to play around with these substantial adjustments and participate in the feedback loop with us ahead of Phase 4 hitting live realms.
We’ll share more information on our testing schedule very soon.
      Level 60 Content Phases
One common question we’ve been asked is “how will the various raid tiers roll out at level 60?”, and we want to provide some clarity and let everyone know that we will be rolling raids out in phases similar to how we did in 2019’s Classic. The first tier will consist of Molten Core and Onyxia, and a few weeks after that we will see Blackwing Lair, followed by Zul’Gurub, with additional endgame content and surprises that we’re planning to add between the major raid tier releases as well. For ease of communication, we intend to frame our releases around the familiar original WoW raid tiers.
      Sunken Temple Adjustments Incoming
One consistent piece of feedback we’ve received is that the rewards from Sunken Temple have been a bit underwhelming. During our design and testing of Phase 3, we didn’t entirely know the scale and scope of adjustments we’d make to Level 60 dungeon gear, Tier 1 item sets, and Molten Core and Onyxia gear. Now that we have a good idea about those, we think it makes sense to increase the power level of some of the Sunken Temple gear. These updates will particularly focus on caster gear, which feels the most underpowered.
We’ll let you know when we’ve got this ready to implement in the live game.
We want to again express a heartfelt thanks to our passionate players. We’ve had a blast playing with you in Season of Discovery and now in the Cataclysm Classic pre-patch, and we can’t wait to get more exciting Classic content into your hands very soon!
      Thank you,
      The WoW Classic Development Team

Here's a collection of hotfixes for Dragonflight, Season of Discovery and Cataclysm Classic for the past week, with plenty of raid and dungeon and item changes in Season 4, three classes getting some tuning in Season of Discovery, and many fixes and improvements in the Cataclysm Classic pre-patch.
      Hotfixes (Source)
      Classes
Druid Feral Fixed an issue preventing Smoldering Frenzy (Season 4 (2) Set Bonus) from triggering effects like Seal of Diurna’s Chosen. Dungeons and Raids
Aberrus (Awakened) Fixed an issue that caused Thadrion to continually cast Unstable Essence after the encounter had concluded. Vault of the Incarnates Cuzolth now provides their item upgrade services to players in Vault of the Incarnates. Terros Fixed an issue where Explosive Reaction was hitting pets on Mythic difficulty. Nokhud Offensive Addressed a Primalist Thunderbeast issue where Thunderstrike’s target is not correctly reflected in the unit frame. Addressed an issue where the rim visual on Static Spear and Crackling Upheaval can disappear under certain situations. Algeth’ar Academy Echo of Doragosa Arcane Rift now spawns Uncontrolled Energy 20% less frequently. Overwhelming Power now spawns Arcane Rift at 4 stacks (was 3). Fixed an issue where Vile Lasher’s Detonation Seed was not spawning on the ground. Neltharus Lava Flare’s Melt now goes on cooldown after the cast is interrupted. Chargath, Bane of Scales Fiery Focus’s Fire damage reduced by 25%. Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr The Mythic+ timer increased by 1 minute. Items
Fixed an issue that prevented Eye of Awakening from functioning on rings purchased from Antique Bronze Bullion vendors. Fixed an issue that prevented Tiered Medallion Setting from functioning on necklaces purchased from Antique Bronze Bullion vendors. Rings and necklaces purchased from Bullion vendors should now be eligible for socket upgrades. This fix is retroactive. Amber Skitterfly should now appear in the Mount Collection for players who purchased it from the Trading Post. Legendary items can now be upgraded as intended on the Awakened track. Fixed a bug preventing legendary item upgrades from receiving appropriate stone/crest discounts. Libergo, Head Librarian of the Azure Archives Annex in Valdrakken, has been watching your actions closely and now offers to reacquaint you with your legendary weapon if you happened to misplace it. PvP staves now properly filter for Warlocks on vendors. Non-player Characters
Vaskarn in the Emerald Dream no longer erroneously mentions that they can upgrade your gear with the use of Flightstones. Vaskarn in Valdrakken is unchanged. Quests
While Time Rifts are empowered, Cache of Embers will now be awarded once per character per week from the quest for defeating a Time Rift Boss. Prince Farondis drank his Conjured Protein Shakes and bulked up, allowing players to complete “Save Yourself”. Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the world quest “Zaqali Elders” to fail to start.
      Season of Discovery
Hunter Raptor Fury now increases the damage done of Raptor strike and Mongoose Bite by 10% per stack (was 15%). The Beast Mastery rune now increases pet damage by 10% (was 20%). Shaman The Burn rune now also grants a significant bonus to spell power when Flametongue Weapon is imbued on your weapon. Rolling Thunder now has a 50% chance to trigger (was 30%). Fixed a bug causing overload procs to not add a charge to Lightning Shield when the Shaman has the Rolling Thunder rune active. Warlock Invocation now also applies to Unstable Affliction. Invocation damage can now deal critical strikes if the Warlock also has the Pandemic rune active.
      Cataclysm Classic
Account wide achievements that reward titles now grant them at an account level. Fixed an issue that prevented players from receiving daily Random Battleground rewards. Smoke Bomb will now properly cancel Stealth, Prowl, and Shadowmeld from enemy players. Fixed an issue that would prevent Warden Stillwater from spawning during the “Lawn of the Dead” quest. Fixed an issue where Death Knights in Blood Presence could be incorrectly, critically hit by all melee attacks. Reduced the cost of all honor and arena gear from Wrath of the Lich King, to better match honor gain while at level 80 compared to level 85. Fixed a bug causing Hunters to do trap dropping animations twice. Account wide pet collection achievements now correctly grant rewards. Fixed an issue preventing Bloodlust and Heroism from working as intended. Mounting the Violet Proto Drake now grants Master Riding to players who are at least level 80 and have Artisan Riding trained. Heal-over-time and damage-over-time ticks should now behave as intended in Cataclysm when refreshed. Developers’ notes: Previously, refreshing a DoT just before it finished its last tick could cause it to miss out on a tick. That was the correct behavior in Wrath of the Lich King, but not Cataclysm. If a Paladin misplaces the Symbol of Faith during the quest “Materials of Significance”, they may now buy a replacement from the Lost and Found vendor in Booty Bay. Fixed the Children’s Week quest “Cruisin’ the Chasm” so that it can now be completed. Boosted Paladins should now have Collective Book of Healing or Secondhand Book of Healing as expected. Fixed an issue that prevented Worgen from being eligible for some daily quests. Archaeology digsites that appear in Uldum, Twilight Highlands, and Hyjal once players hit 450 Archaeology should no longer appear until the zones are accessible on official Expansion Launch. Holidays Made some improvements to the Children’s Week Quests “The Banshee Queen”, “Malfurion Has Returned!”, and “The Fallen Chieftain” to more consistently grant quest credit. The Children’s Week holiday is now extended for one additional week. “Ridin’ The Rocketway” can now be completed. Craggle Wobbletop and Blax Bottlerocket now sell Yellow and Green Balloons for Children’s Week. Darkmoon Faire will be closed until the launch of Cataclysm, when it will return with the newly updated Darkmoon Faire Island. Warlock The Warlock Demon Soul ability will now work with the Incubus pet. Fixed an issue where Warlock Demonology pets were not properly updating from Mastery. Fixed an issue with the incorrect tooltip on Demonic Pact. It should correctly read that it grants the Warlock 2% increased personal spell damage. Mage Ignite damage will no longer be counted double toward Combustion. Refreshed Ignite that now has 3 ticks over 6 seconds will do the same amount of damage on each tick. Ignite spread by Impact and Fire Blast will no longer have a missing 2nd or 3rd tick that adds damage to future Ignites. Paladin Fixed an issue with Seals of Command where Seal of Righteousness could trigger too many procs when it hits multiple targets.
