The Sun-Veiled Stealth set. Inspired by two spirits with a catlike appearance, and by their eternal companion.
The 507th planet on Octavia's journey is filled with adorable "hunters." These spirits, which resemble the cats and dogs familiar to ordinary understanding, will randomly seek out a human and form a pact with them. In return for caring for them and providing their food for life, the human gains wondrous powers — perhaps hearing of extreme sharpness, or a sense of touch precise enough to catch the tremors of plants and trees...
By tradition, the pact-making ritual takes the form of a special game of "hide-and-seek": the longer one lasts in the ritual, the stronger the pact becomes. Unluckily for Octavia, a lawsuit with the space-lane company had kept her from sleeping well, and she was eliminated in the very first round, losing her chance at a cat spirit. Even so, she was deeply impressed by the winners of that match. The boy and girl were skilled at using visual illusions, and even under bright sunlight they could be mistaken for a passing cloud shadow or a sun-baked pebble. In the end, it was the overlooked black-and-white ditzy cat spirit that tracked them down purely by instinct. Although the boy and girl came away with only a pair of cat ears, without gaining any real power, they always cherished the little cat spirit as their dearest friend, and lived out the rest of their days in peace and joy...
