What Is Pure Fiction?
As mentioned before, Pure Fiction is one of the Endgame modes in Honkai: Star Rail. It resets every three weeks with two news bosses and brand-new rewards. It is a high-scoring challenge mode focused on defeating as many enemies as possible within a limited number of cycles. Unlike other endgame modes, enemies continuously appear and contribute to your final score.
In each Phase of Pure Fiction, you must form two teams and select from multiple Cacophony Buffs to empower your characters. Choosing the right buffs is essential to earn high scores. The buff you pick however, will heavily depend on the team you want to use.
Your main objective is to defeat enemies to accumulate points. Defeated mobs also damage the boss enemy and grant you Grit Value.
Upon fulfilling certain conditions, characters will enter Surging Grit mode, providing strong bonuses and enabling massive damage output. Defeating the boss lets you move to the next wave.
Each Pure Fiction Phase has a total of 4 stages you need to complete. With each stage ramping up in difficulty. Defeating the two bosses of a difficulty will unlock the next one. The difficulty is not set by Equilibrium Level. It's fixed difficulties for each challenge.
Grit Mechanics & Buffs
Each phase features unique Grit Mechanics and Cacophony Buffs. They both change with each phase swap. The Grit Mechanic will allow you to gain more Grit Value by executing specific actions. For example, the Grit Mechanic may give you additional 5 Grit Value points when you use an Ultimate.
With each update of Pure Fiction, unique Grit Effects are added, which are split into two different buff categories:
- Concordance Truce: Takes effect at the start of the battle, granting you initial buff effects.
- Surging Grit: Activates once your Grit Value is fully charged. You will receive an additional powerful buff unique to that current update. This phase only lasts a certain amount of cycles. After that you go back to the Concordance Truce if the fight is not over.
During Surging Grit, defeating enemies accumulates Resurging Tide. At the end of Surging Grit, a portion of Grit Value is returned.
Cacophony
Each update to Pure Fiction swaps in three new Cacophony buffs. Before each battle you can select on of those buffs for each team. The buff usually fit specific types of teams, so you need to pick the one that fits your current teams.

Pure Fiction Scoring
Your final score in Pure Fiction is based on the number of enemies defeated and the damage dealt throughout the challenge. There is a total of 80,000 points available per stage with 40,000 being available for each side. However, only 60,000 points per stage is required maximum rewards:
- Clear - Gain 30,000 Points
- ★ - Gain 40,000 Points
- ★★ - Gain 50,000 Points
- ★★★ - Gain 60,000 Points
You can retry stages as many times as needed. Keep in mind that in each stage you can only use the same team once. Meaning you need at least two well-built teams. One for each half of the stage.
In order to get all the stars, you need to reach a total of 60,000 points for one stage. Points accumulate between the two bosses of one stage, so if you score better on one boss, it will ease the requirements for the second half.

When a new Phase starts, everything resets. However, if you complete all previous stages with 3-stars, you can directly challenge stage 3 which will then automatically unlock the rewards for the previous ones if you manage to complete it with 3-stars again.
